I have not seen a thread about Windows 8 on the forum IBIS. What do you think? Did you install Winodws 8?
I bought a copy for $ 15, but I have not yet installed ... I still have doubts :banghead:

Unless you have a touch screen it aint worth it. I sure as hell wouldn't pay for it.

I get it free with MSDNA, the issues I have with it have been resolved. the only reason I dont use it now is that I have a hard enough time getting old games to run on win 7.
I have not done much research at all, how is running a virtual machine in win 8? I know since I dont have vt-d( damn you intel) I cant use my GPUs in a VM but I just wonder how well VMs run in 8.

Yeah it'll keep the pace like any other new windows platform that comes out..but still sucks more so than not. Just really aint worth it unless you got a tablet or something. And yes...carm would know....

Let me simplify everything about getting Windows 8, from my personal experience:

Long version:
seriously though, windows 8 breaks games. Even the valve owner said so.
I cant tell you how many people cant run their steam games just because they have windows 8...
Also, i tried it myself, VERY VERY VERY crappy design.
It's a beta for windows 9, i can promise u that. just like vista was for windows 7. I recommend u hold off and pass on that crappy system. It gave me more problems that I thought i could cure.
Unless u have a tablet, DO NOT get it.
Also, serious security risk, especially with the hotmail-forced username logon ( u can bypass it, but it shows how fucking STUPID microsoft is, and shows u why u shouldn't trust them.)

Every single windows has broken games... windows 8 breaks very few compared to windows 7 and xp. Hell I have a game that only runs in 98 se, I swear to god that thing is impossible to run on anything else.
Likely b/c no matter how good xp was at the end of the day 98se really was the most solid OS.

uhhh, we do know what it looks like dude. i don't honestly have that much of a problem with the UI per-say, i mean the Metro layout is alright and i think i'd get used to it over time like i have with unity...but the fact that it's really kinda forced onto you makes me upset.

....
GOG FOR THE MOFO WIN runs perfectly in xp, vista, 7 and 8
have to say it is my favorite place to buy games, has been for over a year.
Though riven is still a POS that refuses to run right.
I can get it to run in an XP VM but my lack of vt-d(seriusly wtf intel, its on lower end and higher end chips why the fuck is it not on K) I cant get it to run as well as I would like.

I can get them 2 run, but all the vids and text and shit are all fucked up colors. from what I found on google, it's a normal issue people have. You can apparently tweak the game a bunch so it works... but I'm just 2 lazy.

Ya which is why I will never install it. But Win 7 is the new XP and Win 8 is the new Vista. Much like no one went to Vista, no one will go to 8. There just isn't anything great about it. They are having a hard time selling it and it is actually falling short of predicted sales. Touch screen computing is a fad and the fact that they built this whole OS around that is abysmal. There's no new DX. There is nothing new about it. Unless their demographic are 8 year olds, then this thing is going to flop.
Actually the adaptation rate of 8 is even worse than Vista: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/windows_8_worse_start_vista2012

touch screen computing is not a fad when it intuitive, How many times as a kid did you poke your screen
The issue with vista was drivers, thats not 8's issues. The issue is the split from RT, and pushing people into probably the most unusual UI jump since windows itself.
people thought the start menu in 95 was a fad.
