As for 'trying NASCAR before you hate,' yeah, I lived about five miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway for nearly half my life. FUCK NASCAR. 'Go fast, turn left.' There could not be a sport with simpler instructions and a more boring experience to the spectator.

Those 'nice people' you're referring to are at that track for the sole purpose of seeing their beloved NASCARs go up in flames in a wreck that would make a Jihadist blush. see, you don't understand it. these guys don't even have spedometers in their cars, it's purely mechanical, no computers to tell you what's wrong, what adjustments to make. there's a human element, from the drivers to the pit crew, crew chief, even the owner, the sportter, that goes into each left turn that makes every one different from the last and the next, and you don't have it to that extent in any other sport. these cars are also constantly on the brink of spinning the fuck out. go over the edge, your day's done. play it too safe, you're in last place.

those cousin fuckers are entertaining as hell too. we were offered beers from them, water on the way back to the car, we were told by one that taylor swift would be singing the national anthem backwards. yes, he had been drunk since 9 that morning, but we hadn't been so it was just funny as hell. also when the sun went down and carm was chilly, a lady behind us gave her an extra jacket they brought. if you haven't gone to one of these things with an open mind, if you haven't watched with someone who knows what they're looking at to explain it to you, yeah i can see where you think it sucks. but if you understand what's going on, if you get to know the drivers and how they work with/against each other, it's addicting.
