View Full Version : Petition to move NS2 servers?

Ok, we clearly have all noticed this, but performance in wcs and gg as of late has been extremely shitty...
At first I thought it was just me, but even on my new rig and a decent internet, i still see that lag and overall performance reduction over time.
not to mention that map loading times are getting longer and longer...

ESPECIALLY gg has seen a lot of "not so smooth motions", and wcs registry has been crap too.

Zero, is the NS2 server on the same location as the css servers?
and if so... is there a way to move it off?

I dont know how expensive it might get, but still, we're willing to help (when im not broke lol).


If the NS2 servers are nOT at the same spot, then please zero, please help us find a reason why performance in gg and wcs has been derailing lately... especially after NS2 was added...?

I am going to try to make a program that will let me log the gg tickrate across a time scale. This will then allow me to by knowing exactly when it is lagging and by how much what the best solution is and to identify the underline cause. A second server would cost over $200/mo (for a sever less than half the performance of our current one). Depending on what is the real cause it should not cost more than $100/mo to upgrade our server (assuming the issue can only be fixed via hardware).

Right now I am out of the state so I will know more later this week.

In addition to the registration problems, which are significant, I have noticed recently a lot of hit box lag. I have been able to get a couple kills, even headshots, after a person is not only behind a building, but in such an area that the bullet should never be able to go through that many walls. I've had vag crits and the rainbow shot is clearly going through buildings and shit, but not only is that not where I am aiming, but the penetration shouldnt be that great.

Registration has been a joke for the last week, you can see blood and shit on the people, and no damage or hits are registered. On office me and gtr stood next to eachother, unloaded p90's and not a single hit between us, this shit is fucked up to the point of uselessness and extreme frustration.

And last night, guns just kept fucking poping out of nowhere, machine guns, scouts, ump, 5-7, just fall in a pile in front of people, throughout the map. Weirdest fucking glitch thing I ever saw.

As for what What said, i have seen bodies fall in front of me out of the blue when noone is in my area to begin with, and just today, i was playing vagabond on dust2 and when i switched to my KNIFE, i ended up holding a FLASH GRENADE?? In my LEFT HAND? And i couldnt shoot or knife at all. I was a sitting duck until i had a chance to teleport back in and out.

I have also seen vagabonds picking up GRENADES, and i have a screenshot of it.

As for registry, it's fucking weird, i sometimes have gr8 registry on shots i wasnt even TRYING to do, and sometimes i stand behind people with a vagabond scout and shoot them point blank with the scope and nthn happens. And dnt get me started on the pump shotties and AKs not registering a single damm bullet point blank...

Or when u'd be sitting BEHIND someone, and they shoot in front of them and get a headshot on u while not looking in ur general direction...

That's just nuts!

I feel the same effects on the GG server minus the glitches. Registration is nowhere to be found about 25% of the time and the rubber banding persists at times. Might as well not even be playing since shooting during these 'spikes' is completely futile.

I definitely seem to be feeling the effects more than other players, at least that's what I'm gathering talking to folks. Must be something about my set up or maybe Internet connection that makes it particularly gnarly for me.

It was at its worst yet for me yesterday. I came up behind a guy with an AUG on GG, I think it was gg_lego_spacetower. Unloaded a full mag into his back and the back of his head. Like shooting blanks. He turned around and wasted me once my clip was out. It was quite strange, as I could see them hitting the wall behind him where his body was but it was as if his body wasn't there at all to catch the bullets.

I fiddled with some other cl settings as well but nothing seems to make a difference from my end. :headache: :banghead:

Man it would be terrible if the NS2 server got DDos'd so the one that people actually care about and are here for actually fucking works.

the NS2 server is one of the most popular ones in the game, or at least it was a month ago. haven't looked at the stats recently.

Also I want to point out that I was on wcs for a few hours during very bad ns2 lag and never saw any issue on the server. The only times when the servers will be effected from eath others performance is due to disk bottlenecks on map changes and if the system runs out of ram due to a memory leak.

The reason why the ns2 or any other server does not directly have any impact on the performance of the other servers is because there is eight cpus for them to run on. As a result the NS2 servers have their own two cpus and the css servers run across the other 6.

The only time I had any lag or reg issue was when I went back in time to die and sure enough the guy that killed me had over 200ms latency and so this was not anything on the server side but purely a result of imperfections in online gaming.
