Ram issue?
shouldn't be, since it's only wcs. could run a memtest though.

Maybe it's making a call to something you don't have? Does your syslog say anything?
WCS has been causing issues, between the loss of sounds, random crashes, mod crashes, and weird vote shit, it may be time for a tune up.

no problems with memory, removed all wcs files and re-downloaded, checked cache, still no luck. crashes within 15 minutes or so in-game on wcs.
I've gotten the blue screen of death twice in the last week playing wcs now, thats just fucked up

i had that. and last time i checked, it was because of some weapon custom skin or a character hd skin...
basically when the skin fucks up, it crashes.
why in wcs? because unlike most servers your play on, there's an alpha invisibility variable and skin coloring (hellsdemon, shadow invul etc.) that targets the skin and recolors it / makes it transparent.
so if the skin you have lacks any preemptive alpha component to it, it crashes ur game
ex: i had to scrap my joker/spiderman/ DC universe skins, which barely lasted 2 days btw, because the joker had no alpha transparency, and it would make all humans completely invisible the entire map, and then the spidey one would crash my game for some reason...
tl'dr:
delete all ur skins,,, ALL OFF THEM, and re-start building them from scratch, but only one at a time (hell, u can even back them up and just progressively add on to your live version) until your game starts crashing again, it would be THAT skin that u need to scrap, for good, like i did.

Ahh... Out of curiosity when u crash urgame, does it give u an error? Or just closes silently?
When it crashes, do other people :,
1- see u in the game afk? (This happens to me)
2- see u IN GAME (green steam status?)
3- offline? Etc
Is the process (hl2.exe) running still?
Do u ever get the top right (lost connection to server),for a few seconds too?
Does it sting when you pee?

it just closes, as i said no error messages or anything. people see me online, not in-game. hl2.exe is not running after. nothing about losing connections. it's not during any specific action, just random
Have you tried unplugging it an plugging it back in?

i will revert from helping you troubleshoot since you did not specify if it hurts to pee...
if you aren't going to do what we ask you to test, how do you expect us to help you??
no but seriously, im clueless about your problem now ..sry

it just crashed twice, for the first and 2nd times in gg. doing a full reinstall. -.-
update: full reinstall seems to have fixed it. better have...messed with my crosshair n shit
update 2: not 30 seconds after posting that update...it crashed again.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
could it be caused by the steam overlay/web browser since it just happened to crash right after i posed using the in-game browser? do note it hasn't happened in GO despite extended gaming periods
also is there any better way of testing ram than memtest86 that anyone knows about?
update 3: updated graphics drivers, same result.

instead of answering multiple "well do you have this?" questions, would you mind posting your dxdiag info pl0x? (not the whole text file dear god please no)
but just what it says on the dxdiag screen

when i look your laptop up i see it come with windows 8, did you install windows 7 yourself? if so this may be a driver issue
have resource monitor running then start CS:S, join WCS, wait for it to crash, use the graphs to determine if there's partiular problems running WCS
when did this problem first occur? do you remember what you did beforehand that might've caused it?
you could try running in safe mode and see if it crashes, then it might be another problem on your computer closing it in the background (not to say safe mode is a guarentee it won't run, some have been able to bypass and run in safe mode, but the vast majority won't)
it doesn't sound like a crash so much as a program is just forcing CS:S to close, there are some advanced ways to see the calls on your computer to what might be closing it, but i haven't messed with those in quite some time, really i'm hoping it's some silly easy thing to overlook and not a major "core abstract Steam/Graphics DLL corrupt deep in some files that you have to just KNOW the problem already to fix it" kind of thing
hate those kinds of things

1. no, it came with windows 7, factory fresh from newegg. i suspect i got it cheap because they were pushing out the win 7 units to make room for the win 8 version. also i updated my graphics driver, no change
2. didn't see anything special, but i'm not sure what i'd be looking for. took a ss right after it happened, attaching it.
3. it started 2 days before i posted this, didn't make any changes but i hadn't played wcs in a while.
4. couldn't get it to run in safe mode.
5. yeah, sounds like that would suck
If you suspect any OS issue try in cmd: sfc /verifyonly
It it comes back with an issue then do sfc /scannow

didn't suspect any, but ran it anyway. no integrity violations

Revert to last stable gfx driver before the crashes began and see if that helps. Might be several generations old but some of these new updates create conflict that may or may not be fixed. Another idea... I had an issue with a realtek HD/3d audio manager causing CSS to crash with no error - the fix to this issue being the realtek audio could not be ran in conjunction with CSS. In my case the realtek is superfluous due to other components.

i hadn't updated the drivers since around february, toshiba doesn't like to let us update with any drivers except their own, took me a while to figure out how to update them without any newer toshiba drivers to see if that fixed it. it was perfectly stable for ~10-11 months though.

I meant PCI 3D audio, not realtek. Also check the gfx card manufacturers forum's to see what is the most popular signed driver for that particular game (could be a driver signed from a year ago).

does it crash when you spectate in the WCS server or do you have to be playing?
and how do you mean you couldn't get it to run in safe mode?

Spectating also makes it crash. In safe mode, the game would launch momentarily, steam would recognize me as in-game, but apparently it closed immediately after because no window ever popped up or anything, and after a few more seconds steam recognized me as not in-game

Are you having any other issue with any other game or application? Maybe try contacting support to see if they know anything.

can you tell us something about that server? was it also WCS? any similarities between the servers that are crashing you can be a big hint as to what exactly about them is causing you to crash
