View Full Version : ZM nade animations
Zero, can we please get rid of the animations. They make everyone crash. We literally lost like 20 people and wiped. Its ridiculous.
They do need to be removed. Other servers don't have this animation and there's a reason for it.

yup.
Changed it so that only 1 can occur at a time. This will take effect after a map change. If the issue still occurs I will remove it and keep the trails if the issue still occurs I will replace the trails with the explosion effect. I want to know what exactly is causing this b/c a particle effect should not be able to cause this sort of issue.
Apart from the whole crashing thing, the giant smoke plumes and "screen-bending" effect are pretty annoying anyway tbh. Removing or toning those down would be nice.

i thiiiiink i have had problems with smokey particle effects before. installing some skins a while back, some people started putting smoke particle effects coming out of the muzzle of the gun. it would occasionally crash the game. if they're related, that could have something to do with it. i just remember after i took the effect out of the cstrike/particles folder, it stopped crashing.
Gun particles won't work online. Source isn't updated/capable of rendering those types of graphics. Now if source was running L4D2-type-engine, then it would work. That's why gun dev's don't put particles in their releases. It crashes your game when you fire your gun.
Yea and keep in mind I am using stock particles from the engine itself so in theory it should not be possible for those to crash a clients game by themselves or players would be crashing every time the bomb goes off.
Looks like the latest change fixed it b/c we had a shit ton of these going off without issue today.
Yep. Thanks for the fix. :wtg:

Not to be a buzzkill, but the nade animations don't make me crash, it's always when mass zombies are on fire. Yesterday when we played shroomforest, at the end of stage 1 when the zombies teleport before the leaf, someone laid down the fire weapon, my screen stuttered, and then it crashed to desktop as it did for others, too.

Probably because you work in a car shop. Your computer is inhaling all those toxic fumes.

Just now (3:33PM GMT) I was playing in the ZM server, I believe the map was ATIX (The one with the helicopter, I'm a ZM noob so...) we were playing fine for the whole map...last round...I crashed.
There were no nades thrown, there was nothing I saw out of the ordinary..
We were just in the Helicopter and then...crash to desktop.
No error messages.
Hope this might help with the issue?
The issue is obviously something with the engine itself. Generally it is something in the maps that can randomly crash players. For example on abandoned projects I would always crash if I looked at the docks when the shit is falling and all that stuff after you get on the boat. If I looked away or stood on a different part of the boat where I could not see that my system was fine. However, no one else got crashes during this.

Nades setting too many zombies on fire, and a large group teleporting is constantly crashing me every time i try to play ZM, those are the only things i've noticed
I'm still crashing on ZE from the nades. Voodoo is especially bad, for whatever reason.

Many of the maps have particles that cause a lag, for example dustmotes or sprites etc.. in addition to the nade particles they are causing a crash.
The nade fire is not a particle, it is an entity.

I think the nades are fine, i haven't crashed in days now.
Worst thing the nades do to me are bring down my frames to 25fps until the smoke dissipates.

I don't know if it's nades, but I keep crashing on the ZM server, and it's the only server that crashes my CSS. I think it's when zombies are on fire and teleport... because it happens on voodoo when there are a lot of zombies, and most recently, it last happened on the newest Indiana Jones map whilst riding the trucks on level 2.

Think that has to do with the planned downtime

Oh okay.
Where does one find out about these planned down times? I went through everywhere on here, and the updates section. It just would be nice to know when these are scheduled.

There aren't really scheduled down times. It's usually the host having to go through down time which causes the servers to go down for a while. They're usually unexpected and out of the blue. ZERO always posts an announcement to warn us ahead of time.

Crashed earlier tonight on Helms Deep. Nade did about 650dmg then I went down after a split second after that.
