View Full Version : Excessive Map Changing

Been about 3 days since I came back, and on several occasions I've witnessed non-veteran admins using the map change ability to enact a switch every round (sometimes 4-5 maps in a shot). Things may have changed, but I thought there was a rule in place for admins to NOT rapidly change maps in rapid succession. Granted, a round isn't exactly rapid, but it does disrupt the game and when players don't have a say in the matter, it seems like a selfish abuse of power. Please pick a map and stick with it rather than flitting through the list because you don't know them well enough to pick a good one the first time. If you want to investigate maps, do it during non-peak hours where it causes the least amount of trouble.

Or even better, download the maps and look at them on your own time rather then waste everyone else's time. ^_^

I'm sure this is directed towards me. I've never changed maps more than once per round. In fact I always allow the current round of a map to end before changing no matter what circumstances. The only reason I was changing them "excessively" at all is that I was trying out some old maps that have been out of rotation. As far as the players not having a say, 1. that's the privilege of senior admin and 2. I highly doubt many people wanted to stay on the ones that were quickly changed anyway.

Many of these old maps are literally impossible to find an HTTP download for.

Changing it once per round is all you can do... cus it changes... and that would be the end of the round (i.e. two or more per round wouldn't be possible). As mentioned, it's not rapid and the rounds are allowed to end, however it's still 1 round, map change, 1 round, map change, etc. How are players supposed to learn from their mistakes after the first round if they aren't given a follow-up round to correct their mistakes?

It is the privilege of the senior admin to change maps. The reason this is being brought up is because it doesn't appear to benefit anyone, least of all the players, when admins change maps so frequently. In regards to your second point, if people didn't want to stay on the maps that senior admin was picking, why did that thought not urge the admin to put up a vote? Either pick a map and stick with it, or take some time to THINK about your option.

What I meant is that I always allow the current round to finish so that no players are deprived of a rightful win. That can take several minutes (up to 5 for a cade map and up to 8 for an escape map). The maps I was changing after one round were terrible and would never be played otherwise anyway so it's not like I'm depriving anyone of a chance to better learn them.

Sure it does. People get to try out maps they otherwise wouldn't have without having to waste a large amount of time on them when they turn out bad (which they almost always do). I'm not changing maps that people actually like here. I didn't put up a vote because I'm just going down a list of maps from the ZM stats page in reverse order of last played and it wouldn't make any sense to initiate a vote for a map that almost no one on the server will recognize anyway.

Let me help. I went on psychostats and reverse sorted by last played.

If you need any help copying the file names into google and hitting search--well, you are an admin so I'll stop myself there. Instead, how about this:
If you need help finding maps that you want to check out to see if they are interesting to play, please let me know!

Map changes will be dictated by clan members*** / the automated map vote. If there are no high ranking clan members on the server, the first admin on the server will have the privilege of changing the map to what he / she wants. However, this is not to be abused by rapid map changes.

However, this is not to be abused by rapid map changes.

changing the map after ever single round without being asked to by the players is fairly excessive.

now, if the players are asking to change the map (say it was bad) then alright. but don't try to bring the TOS in on your side by stopping JUST before it would cause you problems.

I would just like to butt in for a second and say that I think I was there when this was happening, unless it's happened on more than one occasion, then I may not have been. The instance in which I was online it really wasn't an issue. Sure a few people left but it was also something like 3 in the morning. People were going to bed anyway.

As far as 'excessive' map changes, it may have gone over the line by a single map - I think there were 4 or 5 changes, after about 1-2 rounds each but there were also people rtving and asking for another map, which is to be expected since they probably don't know it / aren't willing to learn. I myself asked for the map to be changed a couple of times because it/they just flat out sucked.

I don't think this is a serious issue, but if it is to some people, Racist is aware of it now.

No problem :wtg:. It wasn't to call you out specifically, but I'd rather play maps than spend time in the loading screen. Thought that was a common sentiment?

In all fairness, you did open and comment on that thread :icon_mrgreen:. Got the picture though, dropped.

Chef I do advice if you want to play on a server with mature people, don't come back.

Meltdown, you need to get your panties out of a bunch. If you really care about people showing respect to others, enforce the rules by posting demos or buying admin.
