View Full Version : Destiny thoughts?

I just purchased Destiny on tuesday and I wanted to see if anyone else has played it. If so, what are your thoughts on the game? So far I like the coop strike missions and the multiplayer matches.
I wish the classes had more diversity though.
My room mate bought a ps4 just to play it. (I'm happy because now I have something to play Bloodbourne on)
I watched him play it and it looks alright. First thing I thought of was a more polished border lands. Then I actually sat down to play it and it was meh. The game really didn't get me sucked in. All the lore kept referring me to their website which is stupid since they could have included a fucking codex in the actual game. I didn't have his head set on so I don't know if you can actually talk to other people but from what I read you can't talk to the people around you unless you're in a group but I don't know if that's true.
I only got to like level 5 but don't skill trees branch out? When I level, it seems like the game is telling me what to pick. I played a warlock so I was hoping to branch out from the get go but instead I was set on what seems to be a linear tree branch. It supposed to be a scifi with rpg elements but the rpg elements blow.
The Crucible has different fractions you can fight for and I got signed up for the vanguard via quest which pissed me off. There's like two others and I wanted to pick the evil one. I went over to them to join and I didn't see an option to do that.
Overall, I'm disappointed with it. To me it feels like a borderlands trying to be a mass effect but fails at both. (Like the Warlock is really just a Vanguard from Mass Effect) I'll be really surprised if this game survives past November.

Thank you for your review Anex, I was gonna buy a ps4 just to play it but I changed my mind after reading your opinions

It's not a bad game but it's not an exceptional one either IMO. If you've played Borderlands, then you have played Destiny in a sense. With Destiny, you have to have friends to play with to make it bearable. If you play alone, you'll play it for five hours and then stop playing.
There's a lot I don't like about this game but i'll probably be playing this over the weekend unless Skullz decides to release V1.
I was watching some videos and it seems like this whole game will be based around Raids since everything revolves around loot. I want to get a higher level so I can play some of them to see what they are like but at the same time some only allow 3 people max and others allow 6 (12?). There is no holy trinity so I can only assume it turns into a shoot and blast away everything. I want to experience one but my primary role is support and has always been support and there is no support from what I have seen. Bungi said this isn't a role type of game which makes everyone a dps. You goal is to do the most damage go to the next room and do the most damage again. It's not a MMO even though it acts like one in a almost every way.

It's a hard game to judge. Watch some videos because I don't know what kind of games you like and I'm very biased.

I have not played it nor i intend to. My interpretation of this game is... it is a console based FPS with inflated community aspects. They sold the game as an MMO for console.. but.. it is not. The game was meant for console, came out on console, and was ported to PC. It means it is shit.

It's not on pc yet
Yup, bungie is actually small, and they got burned last time the PC port was outsourced (halo 2) So they wanted to do the port themselves, 4 platforms at launch was a huge plate.
Anyways, I am still very much looking foward to playing this on PC. Most complaints I have seen are non issues to what I am looking for in getting out of this game.

I love borderlands, how is multi player mode?
Gamespot review. This is why no one should preorder anything. Let alone buy a console just to play it. Talks about multiplayer about half way through. (http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/destiny-review/1900-6415863/)

like sin said.
Dumb.
I will retract my sentiment if one of you can find me at least ONE game that was created for console and then was latter ported to PC..... that was actually good.

Meh. I see the same anti-hype here that I've seen everywhere. Idiots hyped Destiny up so much that everyone expected it to be something it could not possibly be, which is perfect. It's a good game, and I enjoy playing it, but I don't play for hours and hours on end. The story is definitely on the short side - you won't even hit 20, the last story mission is level 18 - yet even so, you have to do patrols (aka repetitive quest grinding) to keep up in level with the story missions. I'm looking forward to more content being released, it's definitely a bit lacking right now. I'd give it 7.5/10. Also, I'm not a hermit with no friends, so that's helpful. It's a lot more fun with friends.
Edit: Also, if you haven't played it (even if at a friend's house or something), not sure why you would feel qualified to review it.

everyone who got it said it was a flop.
I think the real news here is that GTA V for the computer got pushed back to 2015.

yeah this may be such the case, so long as they don't limit the Pc version because they want it to look like the console version so console people don't get jealous (which is just pants on head retarded) (which iirc they are doing, at least somewhat)
it was about a month before destiny came out that i knew for sure it'd be another titanfall, all hype with a huge dissapointment (at least compared to the hype) it's not a horrible game by all means, but it is certainly dissapointing
tsk tsk bungie, tsk tsk.
GTAIV was amazing on PC. A million times better than console. SO MANY MODS! That's why I have hope for GTAV and I'm glad they stayed working on it and are releasing it later. Rockstar has been great with PC releases.
