View Full Version : wcs -> wcs:source
Today I have begun the motions to investigate moving to wcs on sourcemod. This will require everything to be reprogrammed (by me) from scratch in sm. The benefit is that there will be virtually NO LAG and virtually NO CRASHES! I will only do this if I can make everything work the way it does now (for the stuff that does actually work) and if I can transfer your xp.
Today I spoke with the developer who was interested in trying to create a conversion script for the database to move the xp. Hopefully in the next 3 months we can have the wcs server converted over and running better than anyone can imagine! :wtg:

i've seen him once or twice. and yeah, only do the change if you can move the xp and levels over. while the possibility to start at an even field and see how far i can go is tempting...i gotta pass.

Lol it wouldn't be an even field.. it would be fucking every 1 over whose been playing there since the get go. I see what you're saying though. I honestly don't even notice the server lag.. ppl complain a lot... but I never do, it's goes in and out like any WCS server.. and it's never really that bad, and if it is that bad, it's only for a small amount of time.

yeah, zero unless you can give us a list of several huge improvements that changing to wcs:sm would give us (lie becoming king of londinium and wearing shiny hats (+1 to anyone who got that (nested parentheses ftw))) i'd say don't risk it. it's fine the way it is right now

You apparently don't play on the wcs server much do you? 1. Every morning the server is glitched out and people can only kill with magic. 2. The server is hosted with like 10293102i93 other servers and gets really really really laggy to everyone around rush hour (ie: kids getting home and hackers being retarded) 3. There are still glitch's with video cards (ie: my problem).
Id say go for it, if it helps even in the least bit, Im all for it. If you need help with any small scripting, hit me up. GL

dude, i play wcs all the time. and yes, it has quirks. but the lag's not bad at all (much better now that zero fixed a few glitches w/ races), the morning glitches are easily fixed and, quite honestly, kinda fun. and, we're not even sure what's wrong with your video card. basically, it really is fine as is

I wouldn't go as far as claiming it's fine as is... there's lotts of things that need 2 be done. but lag I just don't really think is 1 of them. if it's true it will fix all the races and make them work properly then thats the biggest selling point for me... cause theres quite a few races that are fucked and useless.

Id say roll with the other server. Never hurts to try!

i mean, i'm not against it, i just don't want my levels reset. a chance of that happening kills the appeal.

Conversion script was finished today. I will now begin getting the data together to start a local test server so I can begin to program the races over. We should be on target for a 60 day release.

Even with the source mod if you lose all your levels I have told zero before you can just set a players level to what it was before with SM.
yes but doing that for every player and for every race is not something I would have time for...

well will we lose them?
i say make several random accounts, and a test server for sm. then moving just those players over. that way,, you can see if it works.

Ok, so the basic training in computer repair is always back up. There shouldn't be a problem if you have the back up. If you loose the data, put it back up on the old server till you can figure out a way to x-fer from one to another, then when you found a way to complete the x-fer, your all set, noone looses levels, and everyone is happy!
The conversion script has already been finished. Now I can start the test server on my local network and begin to program races over as I learn the code. I will also test the conversion script when I make the first local test server. The sm developer has been very eager to help us by making this conversion script at amazing speed so if we do run into any problems I am sure they will not be difficult to resolve.
