View Full Version : Weird Computer Problems?

Today I've had 2 strange computer problems.
On one nvworkstation -- Windows locked up, so I rebooted the machine, during which the POST (Power On Self-Test) was very slow, Windows loaded very slowly, and the PS2 mouse and keyboard weren't detected.
Right now I attempted to turn on sonyvaio and it makes a LOUD continuous BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP sound (like a smoke detector). I haven't done anything to it since it was last functioning properly several days ago.
Has anyone else had strange computer malfunctions today? I'm wondering if this is foreshadowing the sun's radiation blast and reversal of the poles in 2012...

Throw it out of the window.
Or duct tape.
Duct tape fixes everything.

I WANT to throw it out the window (and then smash it to bits with a hammer) to take out my frustrations, but in the long term that isn't gonna help me get anything solved :/
Duct tape fixes car bumpers and is useful for people who talk too much, but is pretty much useless when it comes to IC boards :reddot:
Could be your cmos battery going bad, have you tried that?
As for the beep you will need to check the manual for the beep codes to find out what it means.

not true. duct tape can actually become a very effective semiconductor, once treated with the right chemicals

I don't know why I didn't think of the CMOS battery.
It's been too long since I read up on this.
That will be my next check.
Thanks!
Your problem is clearly occurring in the initial boot and thus the bios are the issue. Assuming that nothing is physically broken or corrupted then the only cause can be the cmos battery. I am assuming that it no longer boots b/c if it can post than it is likely not the battery.
