Alright, so recently in the past 32 hours while playing Counterstrike, have been getting ping spikes to 1000, for 5 min it will be fine then BAM for five min it will be between 500-1000 ping.
this has yet to be resolved by asking in game because all i ever get for help is some ignorant answer like "stop downloading porn," or "find a better isp"
when someone has an honset possible fix i cant hear them
so here i am making a thread for an answer
now some things i think it may be-
roomate is direct connected to the router, and said he just finished DLing something, is it possible he is fucknig retarted and left it seeding? would that cause my ping to be all fucked up. (im using wireless)
could i have some hidden processor running, or service i do not know about?
I just downloaded a movie the other day, closed the seeding ect. could something in the file i DLed be it? (note i did a full Virus scan last night and found nothing)
also i noticed that sometimes when i have more then one tab open in my browser such as youtube, or anything internet related thing involving sending and recieving data... if it is a mass amount of data being sent back and fourth the internet like crashes. resulting in NO internet at all
i need some reassurance as to what my problem may be before i go and rip my land lords head off for being a dumb ass with torrents.
take note this JUST started happening
thank you

for the record, it isn't retarded to conrinue seeding something after d/ling it. it's called common courtesy.
now, while in game, hit ctrl+shift+esc to bring up task manager. go to performance tab, and look at network usage. then look in processes for anyt5hing that's eating up system that shouldn't be

call your ISP... durr. if you're spiking that bad, and are not downloading anything, then obviously something is clearly wrong with your connection. call them, get them 2 fix it.....
those who were saying "get a better ISP" are actually correct lol.
oh, and mikey, quit dling pr0n:smirk:

Before calling your ISP.... are you getting bad lag spikes on any other internet games? If so, then yes call or the seeding could be whats going on here.
However this sounds similar to me. I know when they first updated CSS I couldn't play on server to save my life, the servers ping would be fine, I'd join and 30secs later I'd spike like crazy. I know some people did the crtl-alt-dlt thing while in game and clicked on -all user- and then there was some sort of svhost service having to do with the audio that was messing people up. Or people simply closed the steam application from running in the background. However none of these worked for me. The only thing that worked was a series of steam updates.
So you need to narrow it down, is it everything spiking or just CS? If it's just CS then your ISP can't do anything for you.

Utorrent kills your ping when it is open.
So fuck the courtesy for a couple hours and seed when you are sleeping.

i had the same problem, what fixed mine was restarting my comp, and having my isp remotely restart my modem. it worked, although mine wasnt spiking, it was a constant 900-950 ms

I have no issues with uTorrent. I regularly leave it open and seeding while I host 4v4 l4d2 games.

you could try to use Azureus - now called Vuze (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/), it's pretty slick looking and does have a ton more feature/options. As far as being lighter, i only have it's own claims to support that statement.
what may be possible, i don't know, is trying to go into your wireless router and 'throttling' your roomies connection.:icon_twisted:
or if you got money and time you can try to build yourself a mini-server and hook it up to a static ip (which some isp's provide you with at least one) and just have that dedicated to torrenting.

fuck that. Vuze sucks ass. go online and search for a old version of azureus. it's one of the best trackers out there.
but only if you get the one w/out vuze

well, if you'd like to still throttle any rommates internet.. as long as you have access to the router...
Install Tomato and become god, this is a Maximum PC how-to article (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/howto_hack_your_router_manage_network_traffic)
Just briefly scanned through it, may take some trial and error, but i'm assuming that it wouldn't take long to figure it out.
