Power Boost is effecting it.
Some areas it only effects download, some it effects download and upload.

Thing is.... Mine ALWAYS stays at 24/2.5 stable even though im on a 16/2 line. ?_?

You ready for the CAPS comcast is about to put in place with Protocal Agnostic Monitoring? There in a big fit with the FCC about P2P biasness (with the BT RST injections and all) so there now gonna make it Protocol wide with CAPS @ 250 GB (still a decent amount of data to blow threw) and Overage Charges... YAY ! Go CommieCast. -_-

Yerp, theres no excuses besideds capitol for very populated and established areas to have 100/100 Mbit connections (hell, we just laid a direct coneect line to japan -_- ). Its all about the money and control.

In a lot of these cities there is only one cable company and the local gov actually made it that way. Once again, the gov steps in the way so that we can all pay the hefty price.

Competition is what drives companies to advance not complacence.

Man, if I hosted the only CS:S servers imagine what I could do. I could ban you all weekly and have you pay fees to get back in. It's not like you have a choice. What are you going to do play real war...

I was referring to the game real war, now you understand how bad it was...

MBP what is the modem you are using, also it could be that the cable signal is to high (yes it can be too high) or low where you have it connected. There are many things that play a role in the end performance.

He's talking about your signal strengths, they will be listed on the router summary page. Signal to Noise Ratio & Power Level for downstream and Power level for upstream. Probobly differs from router to router. Best thing to do would disconect from the router to check. Also depends on usuage in your area to. Its hit or miss with comcast.

DSL reports have some pretty good reviews for testing signal strengths and troubleshooting cable connections.

Pretty good I guess. I wouldn't expect much more from comcast. It was lightly raining here in Atlanta last night and I lost internet for at least 5 hours. Sweet huh?

Anyways, I suspect my area is probably 20 years out from even half the homes around here having fiber run directly to the house. Not much we can really do about it either.

The monopolies have no incentive to run expensive fiber lines. They can still jack the price up on my cable bill every month and trot out tired ass lines like "20 billion times faster than DSL" and "best quality HD content available on demand for over 300000000 channels" while they compress some channels into the double digits and still for the most part keep the garbage equipment they hope lasts them another 30 years before another upgrade comes. They're a bunch of liars and get shit tons of government contracts which they cut corners on and still fuck the customer in the ass on prices. I wish all of them would go out of business, but we can't have everything.

Lots of money and smart lobbyists will always result in lucrative government contracts and state sanctioned monopolies where they get to make their own rules about what they do, regardless of how badly it fucks people or the telecom industry. I'd kill myself if I worked for comcast, and I hope they log every bit of this. No pun intended.

i guess my post was deleted??? ohh well, anyways, comcast is going to be blocking P2P alot, infact it seems alot of the ISP's are going to go that way, and the power boost with comcast, isnt that basically comcast zipping the files coming in and then unzipping them right before use???? or am i thinking wrong????

Steamer
08-20-2008, 03:54 AM
Its just increaded conenction speed for an aloted time or file size. And comcast is already blocking among with many others. There are ways around it, but thats nothing to be spoken about here.

They've already entered an agreement with bitorrent stating that they would stop p2p throttling and using other means to deter file sharing, for now.

It actually most likey wont be stopped until their Protocal Agnostic Bandwidth Monitoring is in place everywere. Been tested in many states after they said that and they are still injecting packets with reset tags. There currently testing the PABM in a few states to adjust what they want to do with it. Fair is Fair I guess, still a high cap there and some people download/upload way way more bandwidth than there payment could ever cover. Sucks for everyone else but they shouldn't be effected at all if they dont partake in the activities. I use the word shouldn't because there porbably would be unninted complications for the peole who dont deserve the monitoring. IDK, time will tell.

ManBearPig <ibis>
08-21-2008, 05:21 PM
I heard that comcast would be lowering bandwith for people that downloaded over 300 gigs per month... but i dont think thats true anymore.

Steamer
08-21-2008, 05:32 PM
Yea, it is. There testing the caps ans stuff in a few states. Yerp, its estimated at 250 gigs now with overage charges. Dont know about the throttling part yet. Knowing comcast they probably wont just so they can hit you with more overage charges lol. DSL reports has alot of info on the whole thing.

ManBearPig <ibis>
08-21-2008, 06:12 PM
I download maybe, maybe 10 gigs a month. If your downloading 250 gig than you deserve to be caught.

ZERO
08-22-2008, 12:39 AM
It is not being caught, there are plenty of legal things that people download now and that is the real reason they are doing this. In the future people will dl a lot of movies and tv shows and I do not think on demand likes that idea too much as those businesses compete with them. So they will make users pay extra for the bandwidth to do it so they create a market advantage. People think oh it will not affect me b/c as usually Americans think of the present and not the long term problem created from things we simply agree to. If you want the future to be a world where America has limited access to the internet while other nations have access to unlimited data at fast rates than yes you should quietly agree with comcast. But if you care about the future of our now digital civilization that we should defend the rights for unlimited access to the backbone. Remember the internet will only become more important in the next 100 years. Even poor people will need computers and internets and such. Think of what the true long term future is and think how what we are doing today can destroy the benefits of that technology for many people. The rich will never really be affected by this but in the future almost every American will need big connections and a lot of allowance. Why should less wealthy people be cut off from data just because 1 company is the only one that sells the service.

Read this.

http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/39002/128/

Could last to the end of this year. What do you think?

I doubt there will be unrestricted internet access in America or other places for that matter for a very long time. Company's are just to greedy along with the governments. Would be nice, but I doubt it isn't gonna happen for a very, very, very long time over here.

With todays free access to quality HDTV over the net that bandwidth could be blown threw rather fast. Sometime I stream a few Netflix movies a day (that can blow threw quite a bit of bandwidth), they just want to blow out all the competition. I'm sure they would rather have me watch shitty VoD than Netflix movies. They need to invest their money into expanding their network instead of spending millions on "crapping" everyones connections. FFS, roll out the Docsis 3 everywere and decrease network limitations. Greedy @ss F*cks.

Also this....

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/New-Comcast-Throttling-System-A-Really-Good-DSL-Experience-97130

Who's not to say that one trigger could set right after the other depending on the amount of data and speed your downloading it at leading to a 100% cap for the download. This is getting quite rediculous.

No doubt this will effect everyone. I think it rather unfair.

http://torrentfreak.com/comcast-vs-bittorrent-whats-next-080821/

Yeah. Comcast stops throttling p2p, now they will throttle everyone. And put a limit on. I don't get why are they so desperate to lose customers.

Steamer

They dont have to stop until the end of the yer when their other network managing techiniques are in place. Only provide documentation of what there doing to the FCC and the Public in 30 days. I hope theses experiments don't last long. As for whats happend to competition... well when the cable company gets so many handouts from state and federal funds they monopolize areas and make it very very hard for a customer to choose ISP's. Something has gotta give in the future. In my area its 1.5mb DSL or Comcast. Even with metered and capped plans it still "monopolizes" me into one ISP. When they lose customer base then they might change things. Wont know till it all happens. =\

Also w/ Fios unmetered lines I doubt it will be long before they play catch up and partake in all this throttling/cap activity. Knowing Verizon I don't doubt it at all.
