View Full Version : New Site
So it has finally happened, we have launched our new website!
There is still a lot of work to be done but this is the start of some major changes we will be able to bring to everyone. Please note that nothing is final and I will be working with you all to ensure that the new site and forums are the best they can be :wtg:
If you run into any problems please let me know. This week will be focused primarily on getting any kinks worked out.

This looks awesome and much better from the old one. Basically the same layout.
Yea I am going to be cleaning it up and making an alternative style for the home page.
You may want to make ibisgaming.com your home page b/c now it is actually going to be used in the future. As you can see this is a total site make over.

ummm, what happened to the full editor for posts?
all i can do is quick-reply.
new site is seriously ugly. SOOO much useless stuff on frontpage, and lots of wasted space on the forums (bars at sides)
also the icons for new posts/no new posts look too similar...
yeah. no good changes i can see
Just hit the big reply button at the bottom

uh-huh. which is a quick-reply. now you need to hit "go advanced" to bring up the real editor.

because i like the full editor. puts more tools and tags at your disposal. although the only good thing that i can see is that quick-reply is alot more intuitive.

This is how I feel, it's very difficult to quickly scan for threads with new posts; it feels too busy. Other than that, I like it.

at first i hesitated.
but after some tweeking in the settings page, (such as allowing 40+ posts to show up same page instead of having to follow threads slowly, page by page) etc... u'll like it
its a new thing , so it needs accustoming.
new skin would be a great surplus. whether the old skin or smthn on the lines of black and gold contours (like the warning/danger sign) for new stuff? also the home page is a bit confusing... maybe if we had a way to collapse unwanted menus? ilve seen that feature. and even if ppl request it do NOT add the lightbox for pictures! its the most retarded thing ever! slow and laggy, and u cant save files easily from it. (they even fucked facebook with that...)
nways... i just wish the buttons where a bit larger, and is there a chance you can have it highlight in the thread titles in green/red or smthn to show which ones have been updated and which ones have already been read?...
do u have access to the CSS code? or are u just using templates provided by the content management system?
gd job tho.
now i cant wait for the new admin system u mentionned that would accompany this update:D senior admin ftw:D

Lightbox was just an example to re-sizing options. It's fast for me and not laggy at all, then again some people do have gimped PC's. The forums have pretty much the same navigation feel as before and load a bit quicker imo. Only downside I am seeing is the size or "largness" of some of the seperation components and buttons. Could be just me as I tend to favor the small streamlined stylesheets.

Definately looks nice, but like everyone said it takes some getting used to. :wtg:
My biggest thing i see that i have a problem with is i like to see our blue color bar back istead of black where the number (exampe: #31)
To me it just helps seperate each persons thread easier.

Im just pointing out eye candy stuff, but another think I notice is our avatar sizes can seem to be to large or small. Maybe set a max size allowed or auto adjust to it......
just seems that theres a whole bunch of space for our avatar, names and ranks and wins ..... so either Upsize the text a bit and make it bold on that stuff or set a max size limit on the avatar pics
Im going to make my avatar a bit smaller...
Some peoples look fine wlile others seem quite large

The layout is hard to read from thread to thread.
The background needs to be changed. You cannot read the bottom text.
I like the new color but it needs to be tweaked a lot. Good change, at least.
mag36
02-20-2011, 01:31 PM
also im pointing out to change this in the picture it will make a big diffence if you slightly change teh color
and by the way you attactment page is totally diffent color scheme
ps im comparing to this site since it had simular colors http://www.gamesforum.com/show-tell/17220-finks-texture-pack-2-a.html
and this attachement color got to go!
maybe our ibis blue also.
I have changed the size of the user names so I hope that helps along with the color at the top of the posts.
As for that boarder I think it will end up looking strange once you understand what that section really is (from a programing perspective)
Christmas was referring to the thing with the holes preventing people from being able to read the bottom section correctly:

Now there are a few ways I could fix that:
First I can change that background to ANYTHING WE WANT, color pic ect.
Second I could just simply change the colors of the test.
Now onto the attachments I will get that fixed too :wtg:
Oh, I see the interface is totally different than before. I will half to come back to that later in the week. For now I will try to fix the way they show up in the threads to make it cleaner.

your the boss but i do think if you drop the color scale a tad there in will make the treads pop out more but if it doesnt look right for other pages then mehhh whatever
hue: 160 red:23
sat: 0 blue: 23
lum: 22 gren: 23
was the color scale of what i did in paint
and far as the checkerd backgrond i like that i would just mess with the text instead
if possible i would go with a liittle darker blue tint or somethign with the threads being read and not read
They are grey if all the post been looked at and slight blue if they havent but its really hard to tell between the two colors so if you could darken that blue a bit too
http://www.ibisgaming.com/forums/images/styles/blackstealth/statusicon/thread_new-30.pnghttp://www.ibisgaming.com/forums/images/styles/blackstealth/statusicon/thread_dot-30-right.png
Well they do have diffent images now that i think about it but looking at the site on my smart phone with a small screen the color being a little darker would help.....
lol ok im done nit picking now i think that covers everything for me for now

after you get things with the forums looking how you want, we should think about doing something with the main page. it's got nothing but old useless info on it and hasn't been updated in like 2 years. makes us look inactive even though we're not.

on individual profiles maybe alphabetize all the options on the left hand side??
Ok got the background done. Yea the new main page is going to change a lot. In fact I am not even going to be using this theme for the main pages. It will be similar but with inverted colors. The layout is temporary until I am done with working on the forums, besides I can not have it that cluttered and then still try to fit ads in. :smirk:
As for the icons they need major work, it is way to hard to tell the difference. These changes are not easy to make so it will take some time and there are a lot of these icons. I planned on replacing them from the second I saw them. :wtg:

what you talking about the new main page is the same as the old. it just looks diff. the old main page was filled with the same useless old outdated info as this 1 is now. I don't care how it looks, I'm saying we should do something more productive with the main page... either start updating it with info on a regular basis or find something diff 2 do on it.
Yea like I said it is going to take a few weeks to get everything changed how we want but hey that is the great thing. We are getting a fresh start with a larger community so we can get more input on how you all want the site to look!

also the profile page can used a bit of an overhual....
the friends tab with all your friends listed if you could make that into a grid of there avatars maybe??? cause it so much waisted space in a listed line

Yea to replace the grey checkered partas for little things like nicer grids for the friends list lets leave stuff like that for later. I want to focus on getting the big things done so that I can start work on the main page and then on races for the wcs server followed by the new admin system.
For example I want to make it so that the documents section on the main site will contain all of the information any user would want from the TOS to rules to any other base document. We are going to have a real website this year not just forums. I am planning on having a few people dedicated to writing various articles on the main site and I will also be creating a system for users to get the ability to publish articles on there as well. This will include profit sharing from the ads and I hope that though this we can really grow the community a lot more.

I just marked all my forums as read... if you had an important thread about ANYTHING bump it so that I get a chance to read it...
This especially includes anything posted in the server sections like maps ect or abuse bans ect.

Yea I will look into changes in the row highlighting as well. As for the cms it is actually FULLY integrated with the forums. I can even promote threads directly to articles. In addition users are able to leave comments on articles ect if they have an account (if that is not working right now it will be enabled in the future)
On another note my admin system back end appears fully functional for all users that do not have non English characters in their name. If anyone knows how to fix this let me know b/c htmlspecialcharacters() does not. However this is not a huge problem as the effected users could just make a new account and then I just merge it with their old one. Hopefully the new admin system can be done in a month or so for full release.
Also this new version is so much faster than the old one. The server load is down 80% from the previous version.

i like the background u suggested btw, i will try to find smthn else as well. has the "ibis motto" always been "remain calm"?
I removed the upload from the quick replay option b.c I do not think it is used often enough and makes it cluttered. he could remove the bottom dark shadin and blurr the bottom and top to have it repeat.
or simply add a similar shaddow to the top .
better yet is to edit the image himself , and add at the top some patterns that would connect to the bottom batters as if the image was connected as a cylinder. but that would need some artistic touch.

most likely double posting unless someone posts first,
but zero? is there a way you can have it that the mod thing keeps a copy of deleted posts ? i.e it tells u what post has been deleted or closed and shows u the content of that post?
this would be great considering that many mods erase a lot of posts...specially some that think smthn is irrelevant when it isnt. plus it keeps track of the community better.
It always has done and does do that. When I and other mods view the forums we can see where stuff was deleted and view the original content.

It is the background option in the css. The style for the site is literally handled by houndreads of files so editing is done from a very different perspective as traditional web design.
Ok so I was working on finding some possible status icons and here are the options. Note that the version given is for a thread with no new posts. For ones with new posts I will be making either the black or white section a different color that stands out.
So what ones do you guys like?

so here is another question (sorry if am being a bother but am just suggesting in case)
is there a chance that we can have "user groups" on the forums?
i.e you (zero) have ur own color for ur name, clans/mods have a specific color as well, and admins their own color, leaving regs with the default color.
this way we can quickly see if an admin or moderator posted (specially for people who have no idea who the admins are around here.)
this would be great with the seniority thing, a rank on forums.
ex (made quickly in paint...) :
3575
hitman = clan
mikey and bears = admin
brett = player.
I am working on changing the max size for attached images that display like that so they will line up correctly. Also I love that you can mass upload now!
The order has changed now that I finished fixing the listing for them.
Attached is also the options for locked threads:

Here is an example of the thread icons I am looking to use, they still need to have a second version of each that indicates a user has a post in the given thread:
OK new icons are now activated! I hope you guys like them, I think they fit with the theme pretty well.

i'll send u a reminder at the beginning of summer.
this would actually help u in another way as well.
i've seen people use it to monitor who is paying for admin.
i.e you paid admin this month => triggers and makes u admin here (green).
and so if they didnt pay, it will automatically remove their admin status on forums and make it obvious for many ppl that they are no longer admin, and therefore remind u to remove their in game admin (or remove it automatically if u add the right code).
and glad to help. :)
Well I may or may not add colors for admins but there will be ones for moderators to make things easier.
The new admin system will automatically add and remove admins based on if they payed or not. :wtg:

one thing though is, when ever some one would upload a demo before the forum updates the demo icon when posted would be boxed in showing you how big the file was and how many views it had.
now it is just normal text with now brackets to indicate that is clickable and DL able and it dosnt say the file size or how many times it has been viewed.

Yea it was simply that you did it wrong. I edited your post to fix it. You see there is now an insert inline option that can be useful for some things. However if you do this it will not also display normal. The advice I can give for the new upload program is to just click as few things as possible until you learn it. There are many advanced features that you will not need until you learn how to use it first.
I can actually put the old one back however the ability to upload multiple attachments at once is too important and that is why we are going to tough it out with this version. If it is too complicated I can write my own guide that is easier and update it on the forums if that is what you guys want.
Basically all you need to do is press add files then upload them and then done.
The folders and other options let you manage files you have already uploaded. This helps you find files you have uploaded in the past and post them again or remove them to clear space if you ran out.
no, he said it was already done and i'm letting him know that the reply button is still quick-replying. hush

Sounds like a chrome failure as every other browser accepts f5 as a forced no cache refresh of a page.
I will try to see if I can get the button at the top and bottom to default to full mode. Note that in the mean time you can center click and it will open in a new tab but in advanced mode.
Updated so that /forums actually goes to the forums and not the cms page.
I have not found a way to make the top and bottom buttons default to advanced. This may require a special mod to change.
I am reposing this so that I can add some more to the list and to ensure that I actually add all of these.

Interesting....
I got the quick stats mouse over to work again!
Oh yea, after a year of being away steam integration is back! I may need to make a new theme for the popup box but it is back to stay this time around.
Now it has been programed with some basic caching so that it greatly reduced the performance impact. In the past it was removed due to its effect on load times. Now java and ajax are used to ensure that regardless of its load time it will not effect the actual page load time!
As before just click on the future mouse over functions may be added similar to the stats but I do not know what sort of data you would want to see. :smirk:
Also currently this only shows up in posts, are there other locations you would want to see this?

User Profiles, privacy settings if applicable.
The data is linked on your stats page already so it is not making anything available that is not already.

On another note is the new background good? I tired to edit it to make it the best possible.

Well basally anything was better than the stock one...
I have reprogrammed the pm section so that it is easier to read :wtg:
I have now made the default highlight color the #417394 blue that is our secondary high contrast color. On Wednesday I am going to try to define a basic color system for what we will use in the forums from now on and then I can easily modify sections as needed to conform to those colors. B/c right now I am literally just making them look the same independent of actual values.
I have now added the steam and stats integration to the profile section.
I have also reprogrammed the stats image programs. Now they generate a transparent image so that it can be used against any background without issues. :wtg:

only thing i may point out where you have tne page numbers on the bottom and the first and last one are blue its kinda hard to see them in that color , But its not really a big deal (example
Page 11 of 11 << 4... 9 10 11)
That is actually a triangle for go back 1 page...
Although I think the real issue is that the background color for those is used only in that one place and is thus inconsistent.

MEGAUPLOAD Uploader
So as you can see these changes are now in effect. As for the megaupload support I think this will really help when people are trying to post massive files :wtg:
To use it you need to select what you want to upload and then give it a name. After you press the S you will save and then you will get a link. Just post that link in your post like this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=METXDZKI
Also note that you can just post links in your post and they will automatically be click-able, you no longer need to use the url button if you do not want to.
---------- Post added at 05:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ----------
Also I should note that I can make the megaupload box thing bigger if you guys want, there are a few different sized to select from.
Lastly if you guys really use it a lot and decide that we want better support then I can upgrade to premium which would remove a lot of caps.

No b/c the banner of any site should always go to the home page. Having it go to the forums does not make any sense. I am actually still sick in that I am about to pass out at any moment despite getting full nights of sleep and taking a nap today. I am going to try to go to bed even earlier to finally get my energy back by the end of the week. Then I can hopefully get some stuff done this weekend and next week before I go on vacation. :wtg:

Get new colors because the grey, white and dark grey is all confusing and looks like a senior citizen designed it.
I am starting to work on the redesign for the home page. It may take a day or two so please bare with it. :smirk:
I have figured out how to change the colors on the home page but it will not let me change them for articles without changing the forums too. Basically the articles should inherit the style used by the section they are in but they do not. :headache:
OK, I figured it out. Apparently you just got to clear the cms cache and then it works.

oh god it's ugly now.
what was wrong with how it was? it looked nice.
OK so the first round of edits are now finished. Please post your thoughts and what you think needs to be changed for the home page style. From what I have now you should understand the general direction I am going with the home page. Note that I am not going to change the layout right now so please just post what you think about the style that is being used. :wtg:

why not leave the way it was as a selectable skin? because it looked absolutely fine as it was
When actual content starts to be added it will be easier to read against white.

that's not an answer, only a justification for ugly
Also I am not saying I am going to be using those colors exactly, only lighter colors. That is why I asked for comments so you guys could suggest off white or different color options that you think may work better. Although making it like this to start shows the direction better.

the problem is that the rest of the site is dark. hell, alot of the front page is dark too. not only is the lighter color not neccessary, but leaving random areas dark makes it look even worse. all the frames for the different panels staying dark clashes horribly.

The white truly does clash with the rest of the website, even on the home page

Matching forum tones would look pretty good IMO.
Here is the deal with the lighter colors. I feel that forum content is generally shorter and more broken up and thus can be read easily with high contrasting themes. Long multi page articles are best read against light backgrounds where blocks of text are easier to read. Therefore it would be ideal to have the main site be in light colors so that the articles and ads ect will work together better and also not come off so cluttered. However on the forums we have a dark theme and so my goal is to create in a way to opposed themes dark and light that work well together and that instead of clashing actually blend together creating an even better site.
Now making such a thing is not easy. There are going to be times in development that it looks like crap; however, I think that in the end we can get something that is very unique and will really help show that there really is no other place on the internet like IBIS!
So come on guys, lets just mess around with it for a bit and see what we can all come up with. I am sure that there is a way for us to make this work. Worst case we just go back to the old theme. So why not have some fun and see if we can make something incredible?

i'm all for trying to make something 'incredible' but at the same time saw absolutely nothing wrong with the main site. it no longer looks like the main site and the forums are run by the same people. hell, i thouhgt i had typed something wrong the first time i went to the new main site, and saw the white. the forums look awesome. the main site looked awesome. and it was all definatively IBIS. now, the forums still look awesome, but it looks like we're praying nobody ever sees the main site.

I'm having an issue where as the background flashes (Alternating texture or scrolling... flashes to fast to completely tell.) crazy during an advanced reply and is unresponsive to type until the flashing is over. This has been happening since the background has changed. It just hasn't annoyed me enough until now.
Strange b/c I changed everything back an hour or so ago...
What browser is this and is this error only in particular parts of the forums?

It happens on large threads on forums. I figured it out. It's because I have post's per page at maximum and its expanding the background down. Shame I can't set post min/max per reply view. There isn't much of a delay on viewing as there is replying.
Forums updated to latest version to patch bugs and prevent an exploit that allows for SQL injection. :wtg:
Please report any problems you have after this update.
Also automated database backups have been improved to occur once every 3 days and to include all databases. This helps protect us against database corruption or other strange errors. The new method not only is run more often but uses less system resources during the backup.

Patched some bugs in the php configuration. Should make the site a lot faster. :wtg:
Main code work on the home page is finally done. The place holder articles will be removed and you will start to see REAL content by this time next week. :wtg:
This was one of the main reasons that I upgraded the website. I have waited years to be able to have this CMS system fully integrated. I am sure there will be some bumps as always when we go live but after a few weeks everything will be pressed out. Finally IBIS Gaming is going to have an active website with rich content and not just forums!
