So I have Tmobile... does anyone else???

Never was a fan of AT&T specially land-line services we had with them back in Dial-up days......

Does this mean iPhone will be with Tmobile? damn i was staying clear of carriers that carried apple products
AT&T buys out TmobileUSA for 39 Billion dollars (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/AT-T-T-Mobile-Merger-Acquire-Buy-4G-LTE,news-10540.html)

Meh. I don't really care. T-Mobile is kind of a running joke in my area. No one uses it, and the unlucky few that do trash it constantly.

I lol'd at all the anti-Apple/AT&T people, as was said Verizon carries the iPhone now, and AT&T has been carrying Android phones for a long time. Maybe try reading a news article now and then, you might learn something. I'm sure AT&T spent 39 billion dollars because Apple told them to, and not because they want to knock out a competing carrier, or expand their coverage.

On the topic of Verizon, they have terrible customer service, their service is crappy (in my area of course), and their 3G is slower (both on average nationally, and in my area). I don't love AT&T, but it sure beats Verizon in my experience.

what was the name of the other company at&t ate up a few years back?

I am completely aware that the have both android and iphones but they dont advertise nearly as much as they do for the iphone. You cant honestly tell me apple didnt have any sort of influence when it came to limiting phone providers down to two major company's.

for the guy who said he doesnt care, you will when at&t starts forcing you to have a different data plan for different uses, as well as run off of a pooled data plan with "rollover" megabytes = no unlimited data plans. good luck

You talkin Cingular? They was a weird switch. Cingular became AT&T. Then it was cingular again and then back to at&t one more time.

I like AT&T. Their service does't seem any less or worse than others. I had Tmobile before and AT&T is a little better here. I'm a blackberry guy, not an apple guy and I'm good to go. Rollover minutes are awesome too.

your "rollover" minutes expire.

After a year. Not really a problem. If I have that many rollover minutes left after a year then it's probably time to downgrade my plan

meh i've had voicestream before it was t-mobile...lost connection a lot (houston, that's where they started (voicestream), and i have an ATT phone and a Verizon phone, voice is so much better on my verizon phone, plus i get 4 mb down and 1.5 mb up on my android(verizon) vs my 1 mb down and 1 mb up on my iphone(ATT).

at&t had a partnership with them b/c if you work for at&t you would get 50% off your phone plan so its nothing new that they finished buying them out.

My AT&T mobile service is great, but its a overpriced. In fact, the pricing is a sham (then again, aren't they all?)

But I will say this - don't ever get AT&T DSL. I can't speak for U-Verse, but the DSL service is absolutely terrible.

its is horrid unless you are within a green zone. if your yellow or red zone dont even try to get it b/c it would be shit.

What? I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Of course Apple chose AT&T and Verizon because they're the two major wireless companies (read: huge customer base), as you said...

for the guy who said he doesnt care, you will when at&t starts forcing you to have a different data plan for different uses, as well as run off of a pooled data plan with "rollover" megabytes = no unlimited data plans.

I really hope you're right. Rollover data? I'd love it. I use roughly half of a 200MB plan right now, so I'd be rolling over the megabytes real quick. I couldn't care less about "unlimited" plans that are actually 5GB plans. At least they're not lying now. Plus I don't download several gigabyte torrents on my iPhone. I don't know, maybe you do.

My previous job was at a distributor in the wireless industry, so I made it a point to be familiar with wireless technology and infrastructure on both consumer and business ends. I do understand the potential implications of the way data distribution is changing, and I am being 100% honest when I say I really don't care, nor do I foresee myself caring. It works just fine for me. Your situation may be different, but that's not my situation. I'm far more concerned with the potential of ending up with data limitations on my home ISP, but that's another thread.

In any case, this purchase has to go through a lot of hurdles to be approved, with everyone crying about monopolies because they don't understand the term, the little guys complaining that the big guys are too big, politicians trying to look important, and bunches of regulatory red tape.

NOTHING will change for at LEAST 1 year.

I see Verizon and Sprint taking a piece of that spectrum cake.

Less asset for AT&T to sell.

AT&T will have no problem merging. Won't be the first time nor the last.

I think pigs will fly before this happens in the next few years. It's easy to count your minutes per month, but AT&T is terrible about your data rates. From what I've noticed on the iPhone, sometimes a 100MB podcast download will show up the next day, sometimes it will show up 2 damn weeks later. AT&T probably can get something going that will give a better idea of when data was actually used, but as far as billing goes, they're fucking clueless. Some months you can be charged for shit that happened a month ago. Some months it will be reported. Roll over data would be pointless really if they can't seem to get this issue resolved.

On a somewhat related topic: I have a sprint broadband 4G card. It's bad-ass in case anyone is contemplating getting a broadband service. The d/lspeed varies a LOT. Most of the time I can't seem to get it above 2-3MB/sec but that's not bad. Other times I get up to 8MB/sec. Either way the u/l bandwidth is always something insane for me like 8MB/sec

I haven't tried gaming with it on 4G yet. But I'm contemplating a new laptop soon :)

Too late AT&T already plans to fuck with Tmobile customers in the future

AT&T-Mobile?

ZoomThe BIG news that hit over the weekend is that AT&T is ponying up the cash to buy T-Mobile, which if approved, would make it so that the U.S. only has a single national GSM carrier.

The consolidation of the network and spectrum would mean that customers from both sides will eventually have a more complete and higher-quality network, but restructuring will also essentially change the 3G band for T-Mobile's existing customers.

Right now, T-Mobile uses the 1700 MHz AWS band for its 3G signals. With AT&T's proposed acquisition, it will repurpose that part of the spectrum for LTE. This means that those using T-Mobile 3G phones, even unlocked ones such as the Nexus One and Nexus S, will be unable to access the high-speed data network.

AT&T said that it has plans to help T-Mobile customers replace phones when the switchover happens, but that will be still several years out.

"There's nothing for them to worry about ... it will be done over time, in a way that's good for customers and good for AT&T," said Ralph de la Vega, AT&T's head of wireless and consumer services, to the AP.

Biggest issue i have it AT&T has data caps and data rates are stupid..... and with one less major company to compete with its easier to raise prices on products and services since competition will drop down Specially since there about eh only GSM phones now. Secondly with competitiveness comes new technology...... look at the highly competitive tech market and video games they push limits to get customers to buy.

So anytime a company is bought out its usually not a good thing for the consumer
