View Full Version : Firefox 4
So it is out and it brings a lot of changes.
For those that want to remove the bookmarks folder button it is actually located next to the search bar and home button removing it there will remove it from the bookmarks toolbar so that you can get that space back :wtg:
Now in this version Firefox has removed a critical feature. This is the ability to tell users when the page they are viewing contains an rss feed. You can restore that feature via the addon here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/rss-icon/ please be sure to install it and hopefully over time they will see that users do indeed want this feature in their browsers.
To get the bottom bar back just enable the addon bar and you are set. Also to get your tabs back just uncheck tabs on top and your set :smirk:
So other than the issues above what is everyone thinking about Firefox 4?

Are you talking about the beta or did they officially release it?
DOH i forgot i can check on their website.
Whats the big difference? Looks the same and functions the same...
I am talking about the final release, I never used the beta. The changes I am talking about are from what changed from version 3.

I like everything about the new look. Far cleaner, more efficient, more data displayed and less wasted space. I don't really use RSS feeds so that doesn't affect me, but it does surprise me that they wouldn't have an RSS button.
I like the tabs on top and I hated the bottom bar that was always there, wasting my viewing area. So much better now.

i dont like the way they have there bookmarks set up. there above there addressee and they just moved everything around to much for me
In my case i thought it was funny b/c they made it look more like chrome but that is one of the reasons I do not use chrome. For me the tabs should be directly above the web page to reduce the time it takes to go from one to the next. My interface is very exact and is set up for speed. I often need to be able to do a lot of stuff at once or quickly access information.
The way I see it is that the things that are used most often should be closest to the center. I use the webpage that I am reading the most followed by the tabs so they are directly above that. The new tab button is directly after the last tab so its location does change it is always in an easy place b/c I may make a new tab but then go back to the last tab and my mouse is already there. I also have a universal tab close button on the far right so that I can quickly close out of a bunch of tabs without needing to move the mouse around. The next most used thing is the bookmarks so that is above the tabs. Next is my gmail accounts, weather information and some tools that aid in web design. These are always at the bottom so I can quickly glance or access them. Next is the address bar and search bar which I use less than bookmarks so that is at the top along with the send to phone button next to the address bar. I installed a mod now to give me the rss notification in the address bar which helps me access content faster. I now use the new menu button for the top and like how the options have been consolidated.
I am just happy that we live in a time where we at least have all of these options so we can ensure the interface is right for us. Just imagine if we were using the same interfaces as 10 years ago! :headache:

I stopped using google chrome for its inability to use the feature wysig, w/e feature and the flash player always crashed or the pages crashed. It also took a very long time to load when you even disable the add-ons and delete the history and you would have to delete the content of the application and re-install it.
But i loved google chrome for its personal thing the recent tabs closed and the web tab you can quickly access.
I switched to firefox for now until google can fix theirs up.

Thanks for the RSS addon Zero! :wtg:
I like the extra space from the tabs on top, but prefer them on the bottom...
Now.. if the url/search bar,Firefox menu, close/max/min, and tab/group options could be made into one line with tabs on bottom with the same space as on top style that would be pretty awesome. I may have to do some modding when I have time.
Anyhow, core... I love it. Some tweaking to be done with HW acceleration, but otherwise great.
