View Full Version : Ranking System

I normally dont rank whore, but lately I've been checking rank non-stop to try and figure out how the system works. I know that killing high ranking people gives more points towards rank than lower lvl. But on all other servers I've played it wasnt such a huge impact.

How does it work exactly? I'll give you an example as to why I'm confused about it...

couple days ago i had 1375 skill from going 12/7. next day i went 70/49 in one session skill went up to 1445. next session same day i went 35/29. skill went up to 1472. next day i went 5/8 score goes down to 1442 (understandable of course). But about 4 days later (today) i go 72/25 and my skill drops to 1424, and i lose 10 spots on rank! that's almost a 3:1 kdr and my score went down...

It makes me feel as tho the only way to go up in rank is to NEVER play when high ranking regulars aren't on. Then once they do log on it really doesnt seem to matter how good you do. So long as you stay positive it increases rank? Confuses the hell out of me.

Just ignore the rankings. I doubt they'll ever be completely accurate.

Yeah why do you think dual is number 1? Cuz it doesn't matter. I could pass him up anytime i want but its just not important. Also whytboi has gone through the ranks like crazy... that means you know something is wrong.

It doesn't matter what your kdr is. What matters is if you die who kills you and who do you kill. (Think about it - you get little points for killing noobs and many points for killing pros. Those points get siphoned from the player you kill. Therefore a noob killing you is really bad for your rank.

well obviously there are flaws in the system (aka a new player thats uber awesome kills you but is a "noob" in the psychostats cos hes new on the server).

but clearly the biggest problem is the fact that im not #1 :P

Yeah I stated above I understand that better players = more points for killing them and less points lost from dieing to them. And if it had just been a server full of newbs I woulda understood. But there was 1-2 regs on at the time (Cant remember who. Was high at the time :) But I do remember 3 of them on the opposite team were ranked in the 200's cuz they kept checkin their rank as well) And there was only 8 people in the server most of the time. So a good portion of my kills had to come from them considering I went 17-0 before I died and 30-9 by the mapchange. Then on the nextmap I did slightly worse.

What I was stating was that to me it feels a bit like the other person's rank has a slightly unbalanced effect on it. I've been playing CS since waaay back (Anyone remember scoped m4's?) and this is actually the first instance where I've noticed ranks fluctuating so "randomly". Others I have talked to share my opinion as well.

The only thing you can do with the ranking system is ignore it. Today have have probably gone -30 kills and 200 deaths cuz flawless had to keep trying to start stuff! Your sister better watch out buddy, I love me some Hispanic chicks!

Well just for the record, you gain about 5 skill for killing a noob, and you can lose up to 100 for getting killed by one. That means you need up to 20 noob kills to justify a death.

Which is rediculous. Its just unrealistic. Sure if you're on a roll it can be done. But say you go "cold" and some noob gets 2 lucky kills on you. That means you'd have to go 40-0 to compensate for it. When does that EVER happen?

Posting this just to demonstrate how asinine the formula that determines rank is. This was from a session I had earlier today.

Aug 31st @ 14:41 - 16:18 Playing Time: 01:37:49 Kills: 138 Deaths: 46 Headshots: 74 Headshot %: 53.62% Accuracy: 46.24% Current Skill Points: 2226.03 Change of score: -8.74

A 3.0 KDR with over half my kills a result of headshots. My current KDR overall is 2.37, much lower than what I had in the session. I don't necessarily care about the ranks but this makes no sense. Basically it rewards newbs on some weird concept that good players should never ever die to a newb, and if you do die to one, well, fuck you because you're not good anymore and that idiot with the auto shotty on the other side of the room proved it.

Oh I think I should note that the gun used is important. Using and awp will actually get you LESS skill points than the normal amount of getting any kill. Lets say you normally get just 1 point for killing an average ranked player: if you killed them with an awp you would get .9 points. If you killed them with a pistol you would get like 1.8 points ect ect.

Here are the weapon weights (actual values)
awp +m4+ak+all rifles 1.00
DE 1.2
Duiles 1.4
knife 2.00
nade 1.8 ->yes warm up counts!
other nades: 5.00 ->serious business
smgs 1.2-1.5
shotguns 1.1
scout 1.1
auto snipes .9

Would it be a correct assumption to say that being killed by certain weapons detracts from your skill level in addition to who you're being killed by?

Dual

Knife kills should have more points.(not during work up rounds). If the new ranking system is to be consider better, then you should not obtain any points during a warm up round.

It should be that way, but it sure was not working out that way before.

I doubt it, ALOT of the people from rank 20-40 I havent seen on in months but yet they maintain their relative rank. I think them losing rank has moreso to do with the fact that someone supasses them in skill while they just stagnate on the charts.

I can't break rank 25. I average rank 28 to 30. I guess I sould quit before I get a bad map and go even on it?

This whole ranking thing is going to make people become little whiners and such and huge suck ups whenever they get high ranks or w.e ....sigh....-_-

It used to be tight when the server was using HLStatsX -- seeing live how your skill was affected by the particular happening is like dope!

rank in gg doenst really matter i thought? psychostats calculates k:dr and all that stuff, not gg wins which is what matters. so many times i would get to nade or knife level so far ahead of others that i would fuck up my k:dr cos they all still have assault rifles
