Sooo I got selected for the final beta the weekend of December 2nd. Considering that my char will be wiped anyway, I'm wondering whether I should bother playing.

I didn't play much last beta cause I didn't wana re do everything again... granted I started but when the game glitched and didn't give me my second saber I screwed around on bounty hunter for a bit... Hella fun.

if I get selected... ill prob not bother this time around.

Lol you guys are missing the point of a beta! You don't play to "play", you play to "test". Go and test it, so this MMO doesn't turn into another "beta launch" game like so many "next-gen MMO's" have as of late. Turn in bug reports whenever you see something, and be detailed about it. That's what the devs need.

That being said, play the other classes, or other faction, than the one you're planning on maining when the game launches. That's usually what I do in betas. I was actually surprised at how immersed I became in the Imperial Spy class story arc. Wasn't quite as immersed in the Jedi Knight story arc though, last weekend.

actually I think you're missing the point... which is we're aware of the point of a beta... well I know I am, ive been in about 7 of them... but either way, the issue with SWTOR is it's completely unique.. every class has a main storyline fully voice acted that is really engaging... playing now means spoiling shit for later.

Listen to the Music of The Old Republic

The Collector’s Edition of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ includes seventeen original tracks, but this is just a small sampling of the breadth of music that was composed specifically for the game. As we count down the days until our December 20th launch, we want you to experience the entire original score! That’s why, starting today and continuing every day until launch, we are releasing one new musical track available for download each day on both Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/starwarstheoldrepublic) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/SWtheOldRepublic)!

You can head over to our Facebook page right now to listen to and discuss “The Mandalorian Blockade”, the first track that we’ve released. This track is also available to download below, and all of the released tracks will be available for download from this page on December 20th. Make sure that you check back to Facebook each day to listen to the latest musical score from the game, and while you’re there remember to ‘Like’ us so that you don’t miss a single track.

Pre-Launch Guilds Are Locked

Today we are announcing that the Pre-Launch Guild Program for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ has come to an end. Guilds that have met the prerequisite of having four members redeem their Pre-Order Codes at our Code Redemption Center are now locked for transfer into the game in time for our December 20th launch.

If your guild has qualified for import, you can expect to receive an email at some time over the next several days. This email will give you further details on how to check the status of your guild as well as further details about how to join your guild once you’re in the game. Your email will also tell you which server your guild has been assigned to, so you will know which one to select when Early Game Access begins. While we will do everything we can to ensure that your Allies and Adversaries are on your server with you, we can’t necessarily guarantee that every guild will see their Allies and Adversaries on their server with them.

We want to thank each and every one of you who took part in the program, and we look forward to seeing you all in the game!

What will happen to the Guild Headquarters website after the game has launched?

After the game officially releases, we will allow adequate time for guilds to save any important information from their public and private forums they wish to capture off the website. On January 3rd, 2012, approximately 2 weeks after the official release of the game (Dec 20, 2011), the Guild Headquarters will be removed from the web.

So it looks like we won't have access to the official SWTOR guild forums...?

Also, check these out...

From the SWTOR forums...

In preparation for the official release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, we wanted to make sure that everyone has the correct game client installed on their machine.

If you participated in our Game Testing Program before November 25th, we recommend that you uninstall the game testing client (refer to instructions below) and then download and install the launch game client. We’ll update this post with more instructions when they’re available. You will need 27GB of free space to install the launch game client. The actual size of the game client is approximately 19GB (without additional languages installed).

If you have played in our game testing program at any point from November 25th onwards, you will not need to re-install the game client, as you should already have the launch version installed.

To verify that you have the launch version installed, you can check for the "assets_swtor_main" version file in the following location on your computer: \Program Files (x86)\EA\BioWare\Star Wars – The Old Republic (assuming default installation). If you have that file present, you do not need to reinstall the game client.

With that said, some users may notice that their game client folder is much larger than 27 GB on their system. This may be due to having redundant files from previous versions of the client. If you need to clear up space, we recommend completely uninstalling the client and downloading and installing the launch game client. Again, we’ll update this post with more instructions when they’re available.

To Uninstall the Game Client:

Click on the Start bar and open up your "Control Panel."
Under "Programs" select "Uninstall a Program" (Windows 7) or "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP).
Select "Star Wars – The Old Republic."
Right Click on the title and select "Uninstall" (Windows 7) or "Remove" (Windows XP).
Follow all the uninstall steps to remove the game from the PC.
Make sure the following directories no longer exists (or are empty):

-C:\Program Files (x86)\EA\BioWare\Star Wars – The Old Republic
-C:\Program Files (x86)\BioWare\Star Wars – The Old Republic

Note: If you do not see an entry for Star Wars – The Old Republic in your program list, please try the following...

Click on the Start bar and open up Computer.
Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\BioWare\
Locate the "Uninstall Star Wars – The Old Republic.exe" file and launch it.
Follow all the uninstall steps, listed above, to remove the game from the PC.

For more information or if you have questions, please visit our FAQ (http://www.swtor.com/preorder/faq#uninstall).

TL;DR: If you played before November 25 or don't have "assets_swtor_main" version file in the following location on your computer: \Program Files (x86)\EA\BioWare\Star Wars – The Old Republic\ then you need to uninstall and install the launch version when it's made available.

This Saturday, Dec. 10th, the Forums will become unavailable as we make preparations for launch. When they become available again, you'll notice many exciting changes!

First of all, we'll have many new forums available where you can discuss all aspects of the game, from Crew Skills to PvP. The Guild Hall forums will be expanded significantly and will include new "Looking for Guild" forums, class forums will contain sub-forums for each Advanced Class, and we'll introduce a new Story and Lore forum for discussion of the game's setting and story. To encourage constructive community building, you'll also notice a "New Player Help" forum and a Community section that includes areas for regional check-ins and meetups, all kinds of fan creations and role-playing, and forums for server event organization. These are just some of the new forums we'll be introducing. We're looking forward to all the great discussion!

Another new feature we're implementing is our Community blog, which will appear at the top of www.SWTOR.com/community. We'll use this blog for important community announcements, updates, and to post articles of interest to our community members, so make sure to check it out frequently!

The launch Forums will be a fresh start: all threads, posts, and private messages will be removed and warnings and infractions on your account will be deleted. If you have any special posts or private messages that you would like to save, please do so now! When Early Game Access begins, only those who have redeemed their Pre-Order Code will be able to post on the forums, though everyone will be able to view them. Then, when the game officially launches, only those who have active game time will be permitted to post.

As we move forward, we will continue to improve our community forums. You can expect to see new features that make it easier to find developer posts and several updates to our skin to make everyday use of the forums easier for everyone.

We're very excited about the changes that are coming, and we can't wait to work with you to make the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ community a great experience for everyone!

TL;DR: Forums getting wiped and renewed so save whatever you want saved. Also, new SWTOR Community Blog.

Early Game Access* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is only a few days away! Starting December 13, 2011, The Old Republic will begin emailing invitations to start your Early Game Access. Invitations will be sent throughout the Early Game Access period offering rolling access to the game in the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code, so be sure to check your email inbox!

To ensure that players can get into the game as quickly as possible when their Early Game Access begins, we are now allowing everyone who has redeemed a Pre-Order Code at our Code Redemption Center to pre-load the game to their computer.

In order to download the game client before Early Game Access begins, you need have already logged into your account and redeemed your Pre-Order Code. Once you have done this, you can download the game client by clicking on “My Account” in the upper-right of the window and then click “Pre-Order.” On your Pre-Order page, click the large button that says “Download Game Client” to begin download of the game!

If you participated in our recent Beta Testing Weekend between November 25th and 28th and still have the game client installed, you will be able to patch this client instead of re-installing by simply launching your client, logging in and allowing the download to complete. If you did not participate in the November 25th – 28th Beta Weekend, first uninstall the Game Testing Client and then re-install to ensure your game client will function correctly during Early Game Access.

Learn more about how to get ready for Early Game Access!

If you haven’t pre-ordered Star Wars: The Old Republic yet, you still have time. Visit our Pre-Order Page, secure your copy of the game and redeem your Pre-Order Code at the Code Redemption Center to pre-load the client and qualify for Early Game Access.

If you have any issues installing or patching the game client for The Old Republic, check visit the Customer Service Support section for information and assistance.

*Customers who redeem their Pre-Order Code at the Code Redemption Center prior to launch will be able to pre-load the Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Client before the official Game launch. Pre-loading the Game does not grant you access to the Game. Pre-Ordering the Game only allows you access to the Early Game Access period and your Color Crystal. Early Game Access may be up to 7 days. The length of your Early Game Access depends on the date and order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code. In order to continue playing the Game after the Early Game Access period, you must redeem your official Game Product Registration Code at the Code Redemption Center.

Start patching!

It seems Early access will start December 13 and you can get up to 7 DAYS of early access!

I'm not sure why the decided on phasing the early access. First game that I can remember that's done this. I'll probably pre-order on the 12th and still get in on the 13th.

I forsee server-client issues on launch day (lots of choke, rubber-banding, etc...)! Heard it here first folks!

I swear TRION needs sell their server cloud system for MMO's. So many MMO's that suffer from instability issues would benefit immensely from it. :(

Are you a guild member through the Pre-Launch Guild Program?
Just prior to Early Game Access, you will be able to log in to swtor.com and visit the Guilds Headquarters (http://www.swtor.com/guilds) to see if your guild was assigned a server and to play with them. You'll also see a flag next to a server name in-game if your guild is on that server. Visit the Guild FAQ (http://www.swtor.com/guilds/faq) for more details.

Just in case...

That's because all the servers and accounts were down while they were doing maintenance.

Also, in reply to Sin, the reason that they're phasing the early access is so that they can determine how much immediate server bandwidth they're going to need. It's a great thing to have, and it rewards the people that reserved it early who more than likely have introduced their friends to the product. The last weekend of beta testing was also meant as a way for them to stress test their servers, and from what I heard, they did a decent job but they still need more bandwidth. Seeing that last night I was downloading the pre-launch client at 3.5 mb/s, they've more than likely increased their bandwidth (I used to download the beta at about 1.3 mb/s)

Sin
12-08-2011, 01:16 PM
EA's server bandwidth has been extremely impressive since the BF3 launch. I've downloaded their last two patches (between 4 - 5GBs) in at most half an hour. At least Origin got that right so far, although EA does have the resources to support that.

Does anybody know where I can find a finalized list of the servers along with their time zones? They used to have one when they were running the beta, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have a bunch of work buddies that want to all play together and I'd rather coordinate the server early rather than having all of us get scattered throughout 40 billion servers.

Since we all work retail, we normally don't get out of work and home until around 10/11PM CST (depending on holiday hours). So they want to do a PST server since most guilds like to start raids right around 7/8PM their time (from WoW experience). This would then give them the highest chance of being able to do end-game content, but makes it SUPER difficult to be able to do group instances during the day.

Raids and group instances in WoW for me were always after 10 or 11pm to make sure everyone was home and could get on. I'm sure we'd have people on that late willing to do groups and raids. I would.

Greetings,

Thank you for participating in the Pre-Launch Guild Program* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.

Please visit your guild page to see if your guild was assigned to a server. When Early Game Access† begins, server assignments will also be highlighted on the in-game server selection screen with a guild flag (flag).

If your guild was assigned a server, you'll have an in-game invitation waiting when you join the assigned server. This invite will expire on 1/2/2012 at 11:59 PM CST. If you haven't accepted the invite by then, you'll need to contact the guild leader or officers in-game for an invite. We encourage you to visit your guild page in order to save any information you'd like to keep before the above date.

If you have any questions, please read the Guilds FAQ or contact Customer Service at www.swtor.com/support.

May the Force be with you,

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Team

From the My Account (https://account.swtor.com/user/account) page on SWTOR:

Get ready to play!

If you are a pre-order customer, the following steps are NOT required for Early Game Access. However, in order to play Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ at the official launch of the game on December 20, 2011, 12:01AM EST (Pacific: December 19th, 9:01PM; European: December 20th, 05:01AM GMT, 06:01 CET), you must first answer a series of security questions and provide your contact information. Then you must redeem a Product Registration Code that came with the game, and either subscribe to the game or redeem a Game Time Code. Follow the steps outlined below!

Below that it asks for:

five security questions
contact information
redeem product registration code
subscribe or redeem game time code
set up security key

4616

I've done the first two and redeemed the pre-order code in the redemption center but it doesn't show that in the My Account page. Anyone else see this or does it show as redeemed for you? Maybe it's a delay. Since I pre-ordered I don't need this for early access but I don't want it to mess up for launch. :headache:

Early Access? Did you already redeem the pre-order code before getting today's code?

The email instructions I got hinted at there being a code I had to redeem in order to get into the game. But once I signed in via the client, all I had to do was accept the user agreement and I was good to go. In the game right now, :D. Having a weird problem though, my sound drivers keep dying after about 25 minutes of gameplay (literally die). I can exit out of the game, go into iTunes, and I won't even get sound there. Requires an entire reboot to fix. Drivers are up to date and everything, very strange. I didn't have that problem during any of the beta waves.

And I had redeemed the pre-order code back in June/July, as soon as the CE was announced I had it

Why does it have to stand for anything other than what it is, which I'm assuming is the bird?

If they need a cool reason (that's at least valid), instead of an acronym why not use this "IBIS - Fearless and followed by death." Why? Check out this snippet from Wikipedia:

The mascot of the University of Miami is an American White Ibis. The ibis was selected as the school mascot because of its legendary bravery during hurricanes. According to legend, the ibis is the last sign of wildlife to take shelter before a hurricane hits and the first to reappear once the storm has passed.[10]

A short story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst uses the sable-hued bird as foreshadowing for a character's death and as the primary symbol.[11]

Yeah. You get a month free with game purchase but then it's a monthly charge.

1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99)
3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97)

Currently you do not need a great or even good computer in order to play the game. You can play it just fine on a decent machine on low/medium graphics. The big helper here is that they don't actually have AA implemented yet because it was causing crashes in the beta.

If it's anything like WoW though, they will be doing graphical upgrades with each expansion, and I'm betting that they're going to aim to throw a good expansion around the same time that WoW releases MoP in order to prevent a huge decrease in subscriptions.

I HAVE noticed actually that the game works better with older Nvidia drivers, particularly the 275.xx release. I had about a 10-15 fps jump when I rolled back my drivers.

Correct. I personally want to know when we are cut off from playing with the pre-release. Do we get to play through the 20th? Or are we going to be cut off at midnight and then have to wait for the stores to open in the morning to play again? It seems like a lot of places aren't doing midnight launches for the game either, because of it being the last week before christmas (they don't want christmas shoppers coming in at a midnight launch) and also because of most colleges having final exams.

The pre-order reg code gets you into Early Access depending on when you redeemed it in the pre-order redemption center on SWTOR. The launch product reg code will allow you to play through launch (except during server downtime just before) but after the first month you need to set up a subscription.

According to their site the majority of pre-orders should start getting their launch product reg codes today but you still need to redeem the pre-order code to be considered for Early Access.

From their faq...

When will I be charged the remaining balance of the Game’s cost for my pre-order?

This will vary by retailer. If you pre-ordered The Old Republic from Origin.com, you agree to the automatic purchase of your selected edition of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

If you pre-ordered a physical version of the Game, the payment card that you input into the Origin.com billing system at the time of pre-order will be used to charge the remaining cost of the Game starting at December 13th at 5:00 AM PST and your copy of the Game along with the Product Registration Code will be shipped on December 16th for delivery on or near December 20th.

If you pre-ordered a digital version of the Game, the payment card that you input into the Origin.com billing system at the time of pre-order will be used to charge the remaining cost of the Game starting on December 16th and the official Game Product Registration Code of your digital edition will be emailed to the email address associated with your pre-order starting on December 16th at 8:00AM PST.

It's not exactly a secret that big things are expected of BioWare's recent entry to the MMO market, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Cowen & Company analyst Dough Creutz speculates that the game could have up to 1.5 million players already, even though the game doesn't officially launch for another day. This conclusion comes about based on the fact that EA had 140 servers running by last Saturday. If that's the population right now, we can assuredly expect that the game's official launch will see big numbers indeed. We'll just have to wait one more day to find out.

Awesome but I really hope they take care of the queuing. :headache:

that's cause what you're looking for is your serial number on your bill... not sure why they didn't call it a reg code on the bill... would have made for far less confusion.

Earlier today, we deployed patch 1.0.2. You can read the full list of updates that the patch brought here (http://www.swtor.com/patchnotes/1.0.2/142012).

We are working on getting a patch deployed to address the issues that some players are still experiencing after 1.0.2 including:

Fixing an issue that causes in-game chat channels to stop functioning for some players.
Preventing social emotes (like /getdown) from interfering with combat.

We’re currently testing this patch, and we hope to have it deploy sometime in the early hours of the morning tomorrow (CST), but if we experience any issues with this patch, we may hold off its deployment until tomorrow night.

There will be notifications that the servers will be going down before the patch is put in place, so please keep an eye out for these.

In addition, earlier today we deployed a patch (1.0.2a) that resolved a client crash upon character selection that some users were experiencing. The full patch note reads:

Fixed an issue that could cause players to crash to desktop after selecting a character.

Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

For full patch notes, please click here (http://www.swtor.com/patchnotes).

in regards to the guild.. if we want it to retain members and go anywhere within the game, we need to start thinking about logistics, website/calander, social events, and other incentives to keep the people hitting 50 from leaving and incentives to keep the people who are casual from leaving. its all fine and dandy to mass invite people but what about attempts to keep them around and make something of the IBIS SWTOR guild?

I will volunteer for an official website if we cant have a separate section here. It can be a place where we organize events, raids, pvp and other fun in game things for the guildies to participate in.

any other suggestions to push forward now that release is behind us?

the issue is we have no actual active die hard officers... unless I'm going 2 devote my life 2 making a MMORPG guild (which I'm not) it's not gonna happen. I honestly don't care if people stay or leave as I have no intentions of spending every tues/weds/thurs being on at a certain time for raiding or whatever. I'm playing casually, and from what ive seen so are you, and every other community member that has gone there. if you guys want a die hard true guild, yall need 2 actually help me, not just play and expect me 2 make some massive awesome guild. people must pull their own weight for this 2 happen.

don't get me wrong... I'm all for the guild going places... but I just simply can't do it alone and ive yet 2 see any 1 show a single bit of interest in improving the guild. if people wana start helping, sure, lets get it going.

pvp would be the easiest route.

There's no point in preparing any guild for progression raiding in this game. BW themselves stated that they will not be concentrated on Dungeon/raiding content in the endgame and will most likely focus on the story-driven content like the rest of the game. As the Operations are now there are a TON of bugs, from bosses resetting to chests not opening after a single wipe.

Where PvP is concerned, it seems Open World PvP is highly discouraged and the upcoming patch BW is planning isn't going to solve much. Currently Ilum is a mini-game, where Republic/Empire are just trading bases for the daily quest. LAWL!

They'll get the PvP right eventually.

All the game is right now is an RPG with multiplayer qualitys. Reach max level, finish story, and your on to the next game. Bw needs to start implementing things to give incentive for subscribers to stick around for more then a few months if they wish to be succesful. Kinda like our guild. I am more then willing to step up and take some of those burdens maynard, I by no means wish to progress into a hard core guild either. My intentions are to start providing incentives to encourage guildies to be more active, stick around and have fun, in game and socialy via vent.

what kinda incentives though?

and yes there are many probs with the game they need 2 fix, and I believe they eventually will.

Its hard to come up with ideas when we have so little to work with in game. Guild banks could make a world of difference. I think the first step should be trying to get everyone actively involved in this community or guild community. Start by changing the message of the day to the link to your closed sticky thread and add info like who the leader is, officers, vent info and things of that nature. An informed guildie is a happy guildie.
Even start a new thread for Guild rules and a thread for "Introductions/class/spec/crew skills/what i can make for you!/level ect." With that, incentives kinda create them selves, for example. I need a specific mod and dont feel like paying out the ass for it. I can hit up a guildie who i know because of there active involvement in the community and ask them to make it for me.

yeah I really don't get wtf they were thinking. we really do have jack shit 2 work with lol... granted all MMORPG's are a bit of a nightmare at first... this 1 really is.. they should have had so much shit implemented and things fixed before it was released... like fuck... people can't even read the full guild description because they didn't add a fucking scroll down bar. in the guild description it links 2 our website, gives the vent info, explains who and what we are, but no 1 can fucking see it lawl..

heh.... SWTOR is going free 2 play.... there are limitations on the free 2 play version regarding PVP and shit, but apparently you will be able 2 get max level and play the story and everything for free now.

Always a sad day for a MMORPG when they go free 2 play.

I got tired of SWTOR when I hit 50 and three weeks later had cleared every single piece of end-game content. Free to play for leveling I'll definitely recommend people check it out, they get the only good part of the game for free...

maynard

I didn't care much for the pvp also.

would agree that the storyline and leveling is really the only good part of the game.
