View Full Version : Massive Delays
Due to the heat my main computer has died. With over $3,000 in damage and counting it could be weeks to months before I can do anything to the servers again. I am trying to repair the equipment now. But at best it could be a week or so.

why don't you just spend like 200 bucks and buy a AC window unit for your room and keep your door closed. should do the trick.
First it costs $300 and second my parents will not let me buy one saying that running that will use more power than running the home ac with all the vents closed except for the one in the computer room 24/7
Luckily I seem to have managed to get the system back online but it will take a few days to finish bug testing.

but a fridge.
drill hole in wall of fridge. run cables through that, and place pc in fridge.
changing cd's will be a bitch, but hey. nice cooling (hopefully)

If you come and get it, I have a stand up full sized freezer you can have.

water cooling system?
The problem is that you can not water cool everything. So while the rest of the computer is cold from the coolant. The raid card and other components can over heat. The ambient temps in this room can exceed 100F...
Many components run close to melting temperatures at that. The room can be stabilized as long as all the air conditioning for the entire house is routed to that room. If even one vent is opened somewhere the temps will rise as long as the computer is on. With the computer off it can take up to 3-4 hours for the room to drop 5F. It takes 20min to rise 5F.
Luckily it looks like the issues I had tonight can be corrected via software so I am good for now. However, the heat is playing a role as things rarely have problems when it was cooler out. :smirk:

You know, an AC unit may actually help save you money on power in that room
The hotter the Ambient temps are, the hotter the load temps are (its quadratic not linear), You would have fans running on lower voltage.
Not only that but the hotter a PSU the more inefficient it gets, buy ALOT. Drop the Ambient temps 5 degrees and you may end up getting much better Wattage efficiencies, Also Their are full Mobo Water blocks out there, but usually only for Boards like the EVGA Sr-2.
