View Full Version : Delays Next Week
I will be out of town at the end of this week to visit family and to then move my stuff back from Lexington to Atlanta. Work on servers ect will be delayed during that time. When I return the VIP server will be launched following an update for the then released next version of the map selection program. In addition any other mods will be updated as well. From there we will proceed with a 1 week public trial of the new admin system where it will then roll out on all the servers. I know I said this month but the schedule is only pushed back about 7 days. I got backlogged this month due to storms, power loss, having electrical work done at the house and then my computer blowing up. Luckily this sort of stuff does not occur all the time and we will be back to having work done soon :wtg:

I feel your pain. Last year there were mad storms in the DC area (winter AND summer) that kept knocking power out when I was trying to work.
The power loss and storms were different things. The storms were more along the lines of tornado producing weather and hail that required me to be off the computer and taking cover for hours at a time instead. Or trying to cover the cars up to protect from hail and parts of trees. We had an outdoor heater fly off our deck and total itself on the stairs. Luckily, it nor the patio furniture did not go though any windows .

my computer blowing up.
What anti-virus program are you using!? :smirk:
No virus this is registry problems and driver related.
I am still preforming the big backups of the game servers and that has tied up my internet all day long. As a result admins will not be done until tomorrow instead.
In addition the game server will be restarted at some point tonight for a windows update.

lol I was going to say that there is only a few more glitches to work out like with the map chooser, but other than that it's pretty much done as far as I know unless you have other mods in store for us still yet.
Dang I am really cutting it close this time. Normally it takes 3 full days to prepare for any trips. I only got confirmation of a trip leaving Thursday yesterday. It took 15 hours to just transfer the servers over locally so that I could then copy them a few times to the proper backups which takes about 2 hour per server. Then I need to delete the log files and other stuff to save space before transferring the lean backups to the laptop. On average about 30GB of files are cleaned mostly over 1,000,000 small log files deleting these files takes about another hour but will speed the transfer time to the laptop by about 4 hours. Also saves space on the laptop.
Besides that all the software drivers and OS data must be updated on the laptop which takes about 5-6 hours. Luckily I can do some things at the same time or I think your seeing how this takes so long. Then I need to transfer and backup my travel files like music ect over.
Then I am also reformatting and updating my cellphone which takes about 4 hours.
Then in about 5 hours I have some more HDD's coming in that need to be formatted and installed into portable cases for the laptop along with a new camcorder I ordered up that also needs to be configured and prepared.
So that just leaves the RL stuff!: Tomorrow I still got to get my oil changed, wash the car, go to the bank to send some wires and then try to catchup on all unwatched anime (most important) then actually pack for the trip which is not just close but also all the computer stuff.
Then that leaves the special work load finals: at 0-hour all pending admin orders must be processed and afterword the file updated files transferred to the laptop. After final transfer the main computer can no longer be used until I return and transfer the files I use to basically keep track of IBIS back. In addition I also need to prep a special emergency repair package to help a friend out when I get back to Lexington.
So now you see that even with 10 HDDs and multiple RAID arrays when you are dealing with keeping the servers in tip top shape it takes a LOT of time :wtg:
You may wonder why bother to back up all the stuff before a trip. Well if an update is released during the trip it could take days to weeks to fix the servers without local backups/copies. It is thanks to this long preparation that in the past when valve released game breaking updates while I was out of town it only took a few hours for the servers to be fixed.
Oh thank god this just reminded me to copy over all the SM programs as this is the first trip I am on with only my laptop since bringing the wcs server back and as a result I now also need to have all the software to update all the plugins on all the servers manually great that only doubles my work load :banghead:
Oh, well b/c if we were not using custom programs that I personally coded we would half to wait even longer for patched in the event of an update so while it is more work it actually saves me time which is what I really care about. Although moving all those files will not be saving me time right now lol

o.O
:bows repeatedly:
Note that due to weather admin activations will be done tomorrow as I can not leave until Friday. This is because activations must be done within 12 hours of departure in order to ensure proper synchronization when control is switched to the laptop.
