IBIS Servers Down

ok... so im playin in zmod server an the lag spikes start going over the top an everyone is complaining about it, an then at like 2:58am (eastern time) the server crashed. then i went an looked on the server list an all ibis servers were down... did somebody break the box? :|


(sidenote) the afk manager is really annoying in zmod when youre trying to stay hidden in one spot :'(

The afk manager detects mouse movement too so you literally half to not be doing anything for it to go off...

As for the servers do remember that I posted a thread previously that there would be a big maintenance window tonight.

DOS Attacks only result when players are treated unfairly or feel that they have.

Maybe this is a little hint that the nerds paying for admin privileges need to be kept on a leash and stop abusing.

Especially Amon and others who wont let maps that are being voted for be played and when a vote does go through by all the players, he immediately changes the map to one he wants to play that everyone hates.

no, not well said. 2 claim that DOS attacks only happen when a person is treated unfairly is beyond ignorant. there's many reasons as 2 why it could have happened. if you have a problem with the way an admin is doing things, more so if they're breaking the TOS or rules, report them... otherwise keep it 2 yourself.

That is also why we record demos 24/7 and make then available to the public, so that they are able to have all the evidence necessary to report incidents of abuse. As far as fairness goes, a bad admin may ruin a few hours of a few players day but people that DOS attack servers ruin everyone's day. Sometimes bad admins are not even breaking a rule but that is also why we look to make changes to improve our system. No system of administration is perfect; however, any system even one with way more abuse than ours has is better than not having the ability to even try to play.

Lets all pray that the servers are playable tomorrow, what I feel said for is all the people today that have gotten to the end of a hard week to try to get a few hours of relief log in to find one of their favorite servers offline for the entire day.


On another note, as far as abuse goes it is something that takes a while to enforce. Now while there are minor cases all the time I am able to only look at the big ones. This is why under the new admin system the clan now has power to use admin on lower level admins. This way it makes it easier for them to tell these admins when they are out of line. Admins that continue to break rules despite multiple warnings is when I step in. I usually review all the abuse cases even closed ones every few weeks. However, if there are important updates I do that first. Currently I am trying to get a huge WCS update ready. Crap like this delays all activity for days to weeks. Take this week for example, I spend this week trying to figure out how to upgrade equipment to make the DOS less effective. I could have spent this week working on the WCS server and then reviewing abuse reports. Instead all that work is pushed back a week. Then at the same time, I got to be waiting to hear if I need to do additional work for my dad. As of last week we have hit really hard times, like liquidate all assets and declare bankruptcy hard times. He is scrambling to get some new business using the equipment I built last week. My little sister can not go to school this fall becuase there is no money to pay for it and a student loan requires the parents 2010 taxes when only 2008 has been done.

So basically the RL offers enough shit for all of us to deal with every day. No one needs shit like DOS attacks just to pile more crap on. We are here to have fun and play games b/c we got enough shitty crap going on in RL, the last thing anyone wants is for games and fun to be a source of the worries we are trying to get away from for a few hours. This is one of the reasons I have run these servers for so long. Sure it is a lot of stress and shit I got to put up with. However at the end of the day it is great fun playing with you all. Being able to do all this work for these years so that we can all have a fun place to play has made me and I hope many of you happy. This is also why I have always hoped that I can continue to run IBIS no matter what is going on in my life, so that we can all keep having such a great time together :wtg:

did you know that not everyone here goes to the servers we have here. they do go on other servers once in a while to have fun with other people. some people dont play on the servers once in a while because they have a life, a girlfriend, a family to see, a home, even friends that like them.
