In recent times there have been a sudden influx of LUA scripters that constantly change their name so it is difficult to get their STEAM ID. I have provided a full proof way of making sure you ban the right one.

1. Shift+Tab
2. View Players
3. Pick the correct profile pic
4. Get his steam community url
5. www.steamidfinder.com
6. Put the steam community url into the designated area
7. Hit the button
8. Go to the Source Bans page and input the proper information
9. Hit the Upload Ban Button

or if your some what inteligent you can remember the name of the person that scripting
1. make sure you have consol enabled
2. hit the "~" key
3. type "status" into the window
4. look for the name that is the scriptor and than grab his steamid

Just remember the name of the scriptor at the time when you ran the command status and than you can deal with them in one of two ways either by banning them through sourcebans in the proper format, or through the command sm_ban <steamid>

Also you can always go grab the demo after the fact and get the steam id there.

Yea,but waiting for after the fact is usless and doesn't get rid of the problem. I have banned the wrong person due to this script before, pissed me off so much I banned the scripter for a week. Next one I run across I will follow blades steps.

Tomorrow I will be updating the servers with new automated security systems that will auto ban/kick players for this.

What if they don't have a profile picture and so do like 10 other people, so it's all just question marks. I have never seen this before, so I'm unsure if the name changes in real time on steam, or once you open view players its static. Or... maybe I have no idea what this script acts like, I'm completely mistaken about every thing I said. (Hopefully you understand what I'm say it's before noon and I have not yet had my third cup of joe.)

Watch the player list for about 10 seconds. The new steam update refreshes that list so it will be a dead giveaway who is changing their name.

here's what I do when someone has a name changing script like that:

type sb_status into console. bam you've got a list of all players with steam IDs.

wait for the name changer's name to change again.

type sb_status into console again. BAM you've got another list of all players with steam IDs.

what you do now, is go thru and match each name on both lists. they should correspond exactly. find the name on one list that doesn't match the name on the other, and you've got your hacker's steam ID.

take that steam ID to sourcebans, an apply a manual ban. post a ban thread, and you're done.

viola! :)

had a hacker in the pub the other day with this script. He was using speed/aimbot hack and the name changing script to slow down admins on banning. His name was changing about 10 times per second which made it IMPOSSIBLE to use the methods described here.

I ended up getting him when he disconnected. I merely banned the first player on the "disconnected players list".

There has to be a better way to deal with these clowns up front.

that makes it easy.

type status in console, then type it again after a second or two.

look for the two mismatched steamID's and names.

then ban the id.

actually, i think i just found the best way.

go to the sourcebans page, click on the server in the list, then expand the server so you can see the scores. refresh using the little button on the right.

look for the name shos score doesn't change often but whose name does. right-click that entry. select ban.

i've tried that aco, and it ended up banning the wrong guy. lol.

maybe i just did it wrong. we'll have to try that one. i thought it would be easier, but either it didn't work or i didn't do it right. :)

Just had one of these guys in the pub and it wasn't that easy to nail the guy. This is the third time I've run across one of these guys and it's frustrating to say the least. I was fortunate tonight that this guy remained in the server until it was him and one other guy on the T side. I kicked them both after running status in console a few times which allowed me to narrow down the steam ID with the changing name. Then I just banned the disconnected player.

I'll try BTS's methods next time.

Ran into a problem today. LUA hack that disabled or spammed so hard it ruined "status" in the console. As much as I didn't want to, I warned the players to come right back and ran kick@all, at the point in time, it was the only way to get the hacker out of the server without banning the wrong people. I did that, ran through the "ban disconnected player" list and found him, then got the hacker that way, as I was not in the room when the player joined.

Would LOVE to know a simpler way than this since the profile pictures aren't working half of the time anymore.

Typically I run status;status in console and the list is up and I compare, problem was, it was disabled from this player's method.

Scrolling up the status window should of stopped it from auto scrolling....

There is no easier way.

I've found lately that status isn't working. I have to use sb_status and it comes up. I don't know why it does that.

I'm curious how you were able to narrow down to the LUA hacker on the ban disconnected player list.

I feel the need to remind people to read this thread. I am really getting tired of having to stop my fun times on another game just to ban someone that THREE other admins can't ban.

Not to flame you but thats part of being a ULA... Stepping in to lead when needed. You're a senior admin for a reason.
I dont mean this to take responsibility off of any admins. If your admin you should be trying to learn how to be a better one all the time. I'm new at it but I am trying to learn all the time. Rosie helps me out quite a bit. Just my two cents.

ULA and senior admin are 2 diff things.

senior admin is whose been on the server the longest (provided no clan are on) and can control the map votes.

he's an ula for a reason, but that's not because he can catch lua hackers. it's not his job to do that when there are several other admins in-server. they should learn how, instead of running and getting him all the time.

Zero,

I would like to have access to the SM_addban command. I also recommend you give it to every admin to help deal with LUA hackers.

I had another run-in with an LUA hacker today and I identified the individual via steamID quickly but I was powerless to ban via steamID. Eventually the hacker left the game and I got him via "ban disconnected player".

not a bad idea. but in the mean time, figured id let ya know in the event you weren't aware that you can manually create a ban on our sourcebans page. just click the "admin panel" then the big red X that says bans under it. if you have his steam ID you will be able 2 ban him via that route.

thats actually the fastest and safest way to ban someone when u pick up their steam id to avoid banning the wrong guy, as some admins do...

it might just be me, from force of habit, but every time i play in ibis, I always have the following tabs open on my browser on my desktop, before getting in game:

-ibis sourcebans (in case of LUA hackers, instant perma ban using steam id, or to unban someone if i ever decided to do so, because i cant remember in game command:P)

-ibis forums (for posting ban threads or "server crash" threads etc instantly, without having to wait for browse to load shit in game, also so that i see if new ban threads are open and address them)

-ibis stats pages to three servers (this helped me find hackers a 100 times before, just look a random id and see if they played before (duh), it takes forever to load so i preload it)

-ibis link-to-demos (so that i can download a demo instantly)

-www.steamidfinder.com (use it to find ppl's steam id or profile page, or vice versa, in case i needed to do background research or see if he has another name used in ibis before.

-google.com (when looking up a random steam id to see if there are priors before committing to watching someone fishy)

-maynardGayTubeStreaming.com (in case I needed to contact maynard fast for wcs responses... it costs me a few bucks , and a needle in my eyes , but its effective.)

how the fuck do u even play?:S
if my kid bro even blows on my goddamn modem, my ping gets multiplied by 20 -.-
and he just HAAAS to fucking stream movies while im fucking playing...

oh well, i do have those links always open tho, i installed an extension in chrome called "PanicButton",
it was basically designed for when someone is watching porn and someone went in the room, and u wanted to hide the shit but not lose the things u were watching lol...
it shuts down all sites and saves them in a hidden button that u can press later to reopen all those files later.
i use that to save those links above... honest:P

Best way I found to ban those name changing trolls is to type status in console and grab their user ID because sometimes when you go to the ban menu you only see the user ID and not their steam ID.

I have 'status' bound to a key which I press at the start of each round. Makes it easy to go back and identify who is who when something like this happens without having to pull a demo.
