People like me? That is a pretty generalized statement. No country wants to be like the usa, or is jealous of it, but a lot do hate it. And since the usa has a lot of control over the internet, a lot of servers are in the usa, blocking content like communist china does will only make more countries hate the usa even more. You should be outraged at your government for taking this step towards censorship.

The problem with people like your self is that you rely on information from one source of radical media. The chances of this bill even remotely coming close to being passed is slim to non and it would not effect you tube or are ability to use it. I the bill it specifically states that it would exist only to regulate non US sites and that it would not touch .com, .net, .org. I mean i usally get all angry about a topic after watching one video from a democratic extremist, but then i take an arrow to my knee and do alot more research.

If the usa feels the need to block popular sites like megaupload and youtube to prevent piracy in the united states, believe me they will do it. The american government has done a lot of stupid things in the past, and even talking about a bill like this just goes to show you that they are still thinking up new stupid ways to make themselves look like an ass.
One source of "radical" information is all that is needed on this topic btw. He never says that this will happen, he says that they are considering it. And it is hardly radical when it is true.
im pretty sure that the reason why we have so many severs is b/c were awesome XD and you dont know how our gov. works or you would know this bill is a fail.
What is wrong with these sentences (other than grammar and spelling)?
1) being awesome does not grant a country servers, the usa thrives on media and would be one of the reasons for so many servers, there are a lot of other valid reasons as well, yours not being one of them
2) im canadian, i know full well how your government works, why, because we learn about that stuff here in this great country I call home. how much of the canadian government do you americans learn about? so you are ignorant of our government and you are also ignorant of the fact that we learn a lot about the usa in school.
3) it is true that the bill is fail, but your government is the one that came up with the idea, so guess what, that makes your government full of fail
Don't hate the messenger, it is your government that came up with this crazy idea of a bill. If it passes, you're no better than china. The fact that they are trying this again doesn't help with the situation either.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as H.R.3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill expands the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods.[2] Now before the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the Protect IP Act.[3]
The bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a felony. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.[4]
Proponents of the bill say it protects the intellectual property market and corresponding industry, jobs and revenue, and is necessary to bolster enforcement of copyright laws especially against foreign websites.[5] Opponents say it infringes on First Amendment rights, is Internet censorship,[6] that it will cripple the Internet,[7] and will threaten whistle-blowing and other free speech.[8]
The House Judiciary Committee held hearings on SOPA on November 16 and December 15, 2011. A vote is presently scheduled for Wednesday, December 21.

Wow just finding out about this now... rofl those of us that actually had our eyes opened have already saved the internet for now.
I have been sending messages to congress and the senate for a few weeks now. I actually even got a letter back from my congressman.
The bill failed to come to a vote a week ago in the house subcommittee. If it had passed committee there was talk about shutting down Wikipedia in protest. It was hoped that Google and others would follow.
Reid is still committed to giving the US government ultimate power in the universe and has sworn to make this bill his top priority in the new year.

You took offense to my statement, that is true. I did not take offense to yours. I was simply stating that your ignorance is that you take something like SOPA to pot shot at Americans and our influential country. When it would behoove you to sympathize a bit more as SOPA would not just fundamentally change the fabrics of the internet for America, but the rest of the world too. To state that i support a bill that is being passed by people who think the internet is a series of tubes, is completely absurd as well. Even people who have no idea how the internet works defend the cause against it because they at least understand that the internet provides a variety of measures to prolong a humans right to the first amendment and to express it openly over the internet threw blogs, websites and forums like ours here. The governments ideology regarding this bill is that it will provide jobs and media content security, when at the end of the day it will only make it harder for artists to express there individuality, creativity, and communication to fans threw websites. Noone here has disagreed with you, most of of us have simply stated that it is highly unlikely that this bill will pass.

And being Canadian, a lot of dumb ass things your country does affects Canada more than most other countries, other than the stupid wars the usa starts of course.
@ the mexico thing
the usa is made of immigrants, and has always welcomed them, but yet they try to keep mexicans out, meanwhile Canada loves the mexicans, they come to work in our extremely hot greenhouses, then go back home when it gets cold. win-win, and thats why people love Canada, we accept everyone.

The U.S. created the internet, we can damn well use it how we want without the interjections from the peanut gallery.
Also, Mexico is the largest source of LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigrants in the U.S. So no, we don't try to "keep them out" we just try to keep their whole country from coming over. Maybe if we focused on making Mexico a better country with NAFTA so many of them wouldn't be trying to get over here.

The internet is not owned by any country, no matter where it originated from, today, no one can claim ownership.
Also, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. This is about YOUR GOVERNMENT taking control of YOUR INTERNET RIGHTS, not the rest of the world. The usa can't stop the world from accessing sites, they can only control their own people. But they could shut down american based servers if it came down to it, but that is nothing considering they could move their server out of the usa with a click of a button, and then your GOVERNMENT would just block YOU AMERICANS from accessing those sites. Even though you could still proxy to access them.
This has nothing to do with anything the usa has done in the past. Your government has done a lot of stupid things, and guess what, they're not done yet, they will only continue to do stupid shit and the world will continue to hate and laugh at the usa because of this. The usa needs to mind their own country for a while, being in major debt, having millions of homeless and those in poverty. Just go read the amendments, maybe you'll understand a bit more about what your government is planning.

You obviously didn't pay attention in school either. Russia was an ally of Germany untill the US joined to war. They acctually both attack Poland within days of each other and split the land. The only reason that the Axis demise came about was the fact that the US Army made Germany fight a split war. If Russia would have fought the entire might of the German Army they would have been destroyed, the same as if the Wesern front powers had to fight the entire Army.
Back to the bill, as I read it the powers only encompass streaming sites. I may be mistaken beacause I did not read the whole bill. But as far as I can tell file sharing should not be interfered with. And for all of the Canadians who like to claim that the US should stay out of other peoples buisness, name a major conflict that the US has been in that Canada also wasn't in. I had dinner with Canadian's in both Iraq, and Affghanistan. Just saying.

Does Viacom also relize they are the biggest distributer of piracy tools through cnet, which is owned by viacom. Cnet even tested the effectiveness of such piracy tools.
The bill is beyond retarted. Viacom gives you the tools, nuges you to pirate, and then sues :wtg: They fucking taught the internet to pirate.

It's not like they could even effectively police this even if it did pass.
