An anime adaption for Key's visual novel Little Busters! is in the works! :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mr green::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:
People who have actually played the visual novel will probably be more excited than me, but I'm happy enough to see another masterpiece from Key. Currently hoping that this show will get a longer season than Angel Beats!

(In case my old posts didn't drill it in your head, Key's other masterpieces include Air, Kanon, Clannad, Clannad: After Story~, and Angel Beats!)

Update: (5/2/12): The series will be featuring Rita's opening theme song "Little Busters!" and ending theme song "Alicemagic" from the original visual novel. The series will closely adhere to the game's original story, and no "anime-only" characters will be added. The game's main cast members are reprising their roles for the adaptation.

A news update shows that the much desired Kyoto Animation will NOT be producing Little Busters!

This has been the source of angst for anime lovers everywhere for the last ~12ish hours. The reason being that KyoAni has worked with Key for Kanon (2006), Air, Clannad, and After Story. There's been much uproar over the departure from this partnership, based on KyoAni-Key's successful past and the new studio's shitty record.

And that new studio, is J.C. Staff.
Now I'm a fan of JC Staff, but I have to agree that they have a pretty bad record overall. I wish they spent more time on Zero no Tsukaima, it was really rushed and rather unappealing near the end. I have to judge for myself, but some say that Shana III was confusing and left a lot to be wanted. JC Staff has adapted a lot of light novels, but they have not done a lot of visual novel adaptions, the last one being the 13 episodes of Tsukihime from 2003... I hear that as an adaption, it was a failure. But there are a couple of gems that have rolled out of JC Staff's production roll of alleged crap. But only time will tell :/

Studio: J.C. Staff (Toradora!, Shakugan no Shana, Toaru Majutsu/Kagaku no Index/Railgun, Zero no Tsukaima, Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama)
Executive Producer: Kawase Kohei (Toaru Majustsu no Index, Shakugan no Shana)
Director: Yamakawa Yoshiki (Kill Me Baby)
Series Composition: Shimada Michiru (Nanatsuiro Drops, Shugo Chara!)
Character Designer: Iizuka Haruko (Tamayura – Hitotose, Inu X Boku SS, Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions)
Producer Company: Warner Entertainment Japan

I'm not entirely keen on this staff either... I definitely would have favored KyoAni, simply because of the apparent success stories of the Kyoto/Key relationship. "Don't fix what ain't broke" seemed to work pretty well. But I believe KyoAni isn't taking up Little Busters! because they have a lot of projects going on, plus there are some problems with TBS (worked with KyoAni for the last three Key adaptions), and something like wanting KyoAni to make them more money by focusing and rolling out more K-On! (*grumble* never thought one moe pool would block Little Busters!'s high potential for moeness *grumble*). I would have easily settled for P.A. Works, since their record is less "hit or miss." Plus, they did fairly well with Angel Beats! (debatable with some) and has a more reliable record with Key. Kinda? But still.... I hope JC Staff doesn't botch this up. Better not be brushed off and smashed beyond recognition in 12/13 episodes; make it something of good quality, and a nice 26 episode season to truly adapt the VN. Something of high caliber like Toradora, Toaru, or SnS S1.......

So, after all of that, what's your opinion?

I am fine with the studio although it would be awsome if it was made by silver link or shaft although at that point I think it would be a different series lol.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR OCTOBER

I might have liked to see colors that more closely adheres to JC Staff's trademark and more closer to the coloring in the visual novel... but I like this. I don't know, it's pretty pleasant ^_^

Don't mean to double post, but I found more news...

I saw Saya briefly in the first promo, but not in the second promo....no mention of the seiyuus for Saya or Kanata... I'll be disappointed if Saya won't play a large role in the adaption :/

Anyway, since Tomoe Tamiyasu voiced Sasami Sasasegawa, Riki Naoe, AND Rin Natsume in the original visual novel, they replaced some of the roles.

Seiyuu Yui Horie (TONS of roles, the one that stands out in my memory is Minori from Toradora!, but I know that she voices a lot of shows and even sings a bit lol) will be voicing Riki Naoe.
Seiyuu Sora Tokui will join the cast as Sasami Sasasegawa.

Just throwing a small update in:

The anime adaption will no longer have the original voice actress for Mio Nishizono.
Shiho Kawaragi will be replaced by Yuiko Tatsumi.

This is due to Kawaragi being in her sixth month of pregnancy and concerns for her health.

I have mentioned it on this thread, but here are the specifics for the voicing staff for the main cast. All of them brought over from the visual novel. Source (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-04-05/tomoe-tamiyasu-hikaru-midorikawa-star-in-little-busters-anime)

Nobutoshi Canna as Masato Inohara
Katsuaki Arima as Kengo Miyazawa
Natsumi Yanase as Komari Kamikita
Keiko Suzuki as Haruka Saigusa
Naomi Wakabayashi as Kudryavka Noumi
Ryouko Tanaka as Yuiko Kurugaya

Yup! Finally, someone else that is dissatisfied with the artwork! I was starting to wonder, I kept seeing stuff elsewhere, suggesting that the adaption's art was not a letdown. Which I think it did. Fail. Big time >_>

Although we shouldn't be surprised. The promo video was a huge indicator. Even more prevalent is the fact that, for a long time, the name of the character designer was available: Iizuka Haruko (Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions). Looking at a show like that, it's doubtless that Haruko would be unable to recreate Na-Ga and Itaru Hinoue's brilliance. imo.

Ahh fuck! They looked fine when I replied earlier.... Don't know why it didn't show up the last time I was on this thread o.O A mighty herp derp to me!

And don't get my last post wrong lol. I don't mean that the adaption's artwork is terrible; I just really really wanted to see some traces of Na-Ga's original style of art, and now I'm a little pouty about not having it lmao T^T

Well, I fixed the pictures. Never hotlinked stuff from ANN until that mess; hopefully the links from Facebook don't get screwed up >_>

Finished Little Busters (after reading for the last 8+ hours). Will likely be the or one of the greatest things I have ever read in my life. It would be impossible to imagine that a work fiction could cause such a strong emotional response to the reader. I have had this before with Clannad but not to this degree. This level of emotional connection is something that would only normally occur in response to real things that a person has an actual deep connection with. The fact that this fictional work was able to establish the same level of response during the reading is proof of how amazing this work of art is. For what else is art than the expression of an emotion to be conveyed? It is the effectiveness of which an emotion is conveyed that we can use to truly judge art. It is for this reason that we can call Little Busters one of the finest works of art ever created.

This is the first and only VN I have ever played. I highly recommend others try it out and play though the entire story. Especially if you are currently watching the anime. It is a much different format than a normal book and is able to allow the reader to become emerged in the story in ways that other media simply does not allow. Currently I now consider VNs the most effective method for conveying the maximum amount of depth possible to a reader. More so than any other art form currently known. No purely written work can fully express the same story in the way that a VN can.

Would expect nothing less from what some tout as "Key's greatest masterpiece"

... Now you made me really want to finish the VN! I must experience this magic called Refrain before I see it animated!!
