Are all mods allowed or do you have a white listed mod list?

The anti motion blur and alien minimal vision has to be white listed by the server. Everything else will work everywhere.

I've been using no motion blur and alien minimal vision for a while now. Love it. Adding these other mods as well. Particularly interested in colored players, it's always bothered me how difficult it is to see teammates, especially as aliens with the massive amount of structures they tend to spread around the map.

Because I have time to stare at a map waiting for movement. If it takes more than one second of having the map open to locate where my team is (my entire team, not just one random person who happens to be moving), that's longer than it should be.

    my question still stands...

generally, i stare at the map more to try and find a path to my team, rather than trying to find where they are. the map in ns2 is wonderful.

    You didn't ask a question :P

It takes too long to get a clear picture of your entire team's locations - not just the ones wandering in territory where you have no structures. Skulks/gorges sitting in hives are the biggest problem here, though you can also run into issues later game when the commander starts dropping large masses of structures to create safe havens in forward positions. It is very easy to overlook someone sitting in one of those getting healed. Knowing precisely where every team member is and what lifeform they currently are is critical to knowing where you are needed most. The quicker you identify where you are needed, the quicker you get there.

To your second point, trying to find a path to, well, anywhere, is actually the biggest failing of many of the NS2 maps. Uncolored vents and maps with "phantom" connections where there's nothing but a wall just makes me want to scream profanities at my monitor. None of the old NS maps had these issues, and multiple NS2 maps do. It's poor work on the mapper's part. Actually, it looks like the map was generated by a piece of software, not even touched by the mapper. I don't know anything about NS2's mapping software, but I would be surprised if it didn't have a feature to generate a top-down map. That's fine for a start point, but just throwing that straight into the game... ugh.
