Thread: GPU Fried!?

  1. Default GPU Fried!?

So my computer has been crashing when running ns2 or cs:s preventing me from doing some work in the zm server.

So I run furmark to check and it instantly crashes. When the system reboots the alarm for failed GPU goes off in the cmos until I recycle the power again. Luckily, I can use it normally but it appears not to work for gaming...

Going to run some more tests, I do not understand how this thing could go bad already as it has never even gotten over 50C even once! All my ram is good as verified by mem86+

Could be my psu as I am getting <11.3V on the 12V rail. This might also explain all of my computer problems recently! The psu has a 7 year warranty so I should be good for a replacement.

    Yep, PSU warranty time.

yes 11.3 is out of spec.

Now when I test the psu under no load it reports fine but with the 3.3V out of spec reporting over voltage. (with the psu disconnected and hooked up to a psu tester that is.

Got up to 160W load on it and still can not get the voltage to read out of spec. Perhaps there was a short or something that was corrected by swapping out the psu's...

    What PSU is it?

1.2 Kw pc power and cooling. It has a 7 year warranty so if I can find an actual issue with it I can get it replaced no problem.

I swapped it out with a 750W pc power and cooling silencer and then increased the stagger start up rate for my HDDs to prevent too much strain on the smaller unit.

I have a hard time believing you can stress a 750w psu without going trifire/sli
    Pre/post OCZ?

Anyways you seem to have the issue under control, dont think I can be much help.

System uses about 400W under no load with 50% of the cooling system turned off. I can only simulate 160W of load using the cooling system from a 10 year old system on the suspected bad psu but so far can not find anything wrong with it despite the fact that swapping it out has for now resolved my problems in that I can run furmark with no issue.

These psus are all pre ocz. The 750W I am using in here now is about 8 years old. Did not even have an 8pin gpu connector as I had to use a dule 6pin to 8pin adapter.
