Username Origin

always a good thread, post how or why you came into the username(s) that you use?

feel free to exclude "my name is WaterBottle coz i liek water bottlez" if it's so blatantly obvious




i'm obligated to begin, my name originated as a sort of malformation of kiyone (pronounced key-oh-nay if you will)

when i was younger i watched a lot of dubbed anime, and the Tenchi Muyo and Yu Yu Hakucho shows were on around the same time

when i first needed a username (on the gameshark forum ~10 years ago) i wanted a name that was something of a demon's, what popped into my head was Washu's character from tenchi muyo but the 'demon' lore from Yu Yu Hakucho and for some reason i combined them in my head at the time with the name kiyone (which i had never seen spelled so spelled it out myself as kionay) from tenchi muyo

so what i had was the wrong character from the wrong show with the wrong name, but as it was a name not used (at least as much) the username 'kionay' is almost completely unused across the internet by anyone other than myself (over the last 10 years a few people have used it but it's primarily me)

then it became a name i was familiar with and i kept it ever since, since it's almost never taken i rarely need to change it (though if i do i add a single letter in it to make it kiZonay or kiTonay or some such)

it's been some years since i've realized the mistake and when i need a new non-kionay-like username i usually used 'akuma' or 'akkuma' or something to that extent (that actually DOES mean 'demon'), though it's quite rare
