Thread: Demo size issues.

  1. Default Demo size issues.

I took a couple demos today but I cannot get the forum to upload them, it always spits out a security token issue. It seems to be related to the size of the file, apparently somewhere over 9 MB the forum simply won't take the file. One of the files is 22 MB, and the other 9. The smaller one I can get on the forum by zipping it, but the larger one I can't even with a normal zip.

I CAN get the larger one on by using WinRK and then renaming it .zip, but it is a .rk file and not a .zip file. (WinRK losslessly turns a 22 MB file into 8 MB, pretty sweet even if it takes eternity.) Is that ok? WinRK runs on a free 30 day trial.

Is there any other solution that would be preferred? A method to split or edit down the file, etc?

Have you tried stripping down so that you are completely naked, and dancing around a campfire completely naked with a spear in your left hand, and a slab of baboon meat in your right?

There is a very simple solution to this EC-10, don't record your demo's for so long. usually on ZM I start a demo at the start of the round and end it before the round ends. than start it all back up again. but to do this you gotta be a quick typer and know ahead of time what your gonna name your demo so that way, you'll know exactly what demo you need to pull when you have to post one.

oh and turtle no more pew for you.

Yes BUT that doesn't solve the CURRENT issue thank you.

Besides, CS formerly parsed my demos into shorter file segments appending the name with _2 etc every few MB. For some reason since one the recent updates it does not anymore.

And in this case I wasn't particularly active doing the demo, I was making it as I ate lunch. After some suspicions I ran it back later in wireframe and THEN I realized it really needs to be uploaded.

I got to figure a way to reprogram the php upload limiters in php.ini to support larger sizes. Currently I only know how to do it in .htaccess

There are many alternatives to uploading files directly to the forums.

This topic is important to me and if anyone has some legitimate suggestions to the original topic, file compression, can we please keep it to just that? i'll explain why im going to monitor the responses so closely and prefer no bs. I need to receive and send some large pdfs and cad files at work sometimes, but winzip will only compress a file like a mb tops. I sent a email to our IT requesting a suggestion for a better file compression program... but they just increased my email mb allowance. missing the entire point... maybe my recipients can't receive that much. I failed finding a good compression program and I really need one. thanks!
