check the amd or nvidia forums and figure out what the community considers the most stable driver release is for your graphics card (usually not the most recent release). roll the driver back, lower some video settings in game, and try to open go in window mode instead of full screen.

Thanks scrib, Brett gave me a fix that made it somewhat playable and the window mode seams to stabilize it a bit more.
