Thread: IBIS Servers?

  1. #11

i think there is a value in keeping the old and wise around, to prevent past mistakes, and funnel decisions into better decisions

but i also think there is value in refreshing a given group of people with new mind and views

certainly IBIS will need the people who have been around a long time, if even them were replaced then the community would make a mistake, suffer, learn from it, grow, eventually get new people, and the mistake and learning would be repeated and growth would stop on a long term scale, and they risk stagnation

for any base of people or users (not just a gaming clan) i think that periodically introducing new minds into higher positions allows a sort of alleyway of thought or creativity to be introduced into the minds or collective point of view of higher-ups that would be making decisions on the direction of the group as a whole

both the old and wise have value for they have learned what not to do, and can lead by example
but also do the new have value for they bring a new point of view or perspective that might not otherwise be considered, to the leaders of a group (in our case, IBIS)

    just my two cents

Nothing's changed. The clan were cunts back in the day too, now there's just less of them.

Children knew their place, now they're regs, and that's where most of the problems come from. No one plays for fun anymore. The GG server is hit or miss, the Pub is a ghost town, WCS is broken and won't be fixed, Zmod is...the same as it's always been, GGDM is forgotten, half the time you join you're asked to leave because the top ranked players are cheating to feed wins. We let blacks think they're people.

    More witches though...

And we haven't caught one yet! Which means you're not trying hard enough!

I have been playing on IBIS since 2010 and the one big noticeable change is that people are less forgiving and even less reasonable.
I miss some of the people i used to game with on the ZM server 2 years ago, they didn't all quit when a bad map came on.
there just needs to be more community and team building going on around here.

    and that's my 2 cents

Team building? I forgot this was AA and I'm suppose to give a shit if you all die tragically.

I even made it so humans can win the "impossible" escape maps if they fail enough. I am not sure of anywhere else where that occurs. Lets also not forget that your also excluding the big gains that we have had in NS2. In the last year in a half we have continued to sit at the top of server popularity. This summer now that mods are more defined I will be taking advantage of these new mods to better promote the IBIS community and hope to drive more players into the forums. Unfortunately, I feel that many have a hard time posting in b/c they do not play much cs:s. Hopefully that will change as we start to launch servers for other games as well such as cs:go, combat (when it releases), and possibly tf2 later this year.

The stagnation last year was due largely to major family crisis on my part which lead to a sharp decline in the amount of programing I was doing on the servers. (I mean shit I was so depressed there was 1 week were I basically did nothing but sleep b/c just being awake made me feel sick). Luckily I am not so stupid as to try to write code under those conditions. I have a personal rule that I will only write new code when I am in a good mood b/c otherwise it is riddled with stupid mistakes and simple errors and you all end up with a shit ton of bugs.

But let me say this we currently have 4 times the server capacity and performance than we did this time a year ago and I plan to use that to expand IBIS to new heights over the next year.

As for the ggdmffa I think part of the issue is just that newer players do not appear to be able to reconcile the skill difference and qq. I used to play it a lot but then I noticed that b/c I am usually the one winning that when I am on everyone quits b/c I am winning. Thus I stopped playing it myself as often observing that I was doing more harm than good, but then we get to a catch 22 b/c the server needs me on to see how the games are going and help make changes to populate it but if I play the server will empty out...

I though believe that starting to launch some mod servers for cs:go will help bring in some new players and offer a more "even" playing field where to everyone the game is still relatively new.

I will say though that once combat comes out some of you may be really intrested as it is much closer to cs:s than NS2 is as it is a fast pace game similar to wcs in that you level up but only on a map to map basis.

combat? can't say i've heard of it (and googling it doesn't seem to help because, well, yeah)

and, although it happens very infrequently, ont he wcs server if i seem to be doing so well that new people want to leave, maybe for example the server's puplated with newbies atm, then i'll switch to santa and just kinda dick around using only my knife (because i'm horri-bad at flying races, 10X more so with a knife)

or go NE or something and use a scout, because i'm horri-bad with a scout too

or panorama but be zoomed in at all times (disorientingly fun)

once i kinda took from what wolf did and followed someone around with cat as magician, teleporting away whenever they thought to turn around

if you're bad at the game, it can be difficult to do well, but if you're really good, then dicking off is a really good way to level the playing field
