Thread: Looking for free 2D technical drawing program

  1. Default Looking for free 2D technical drawing program

I'm trying to find a program to make 2D planform sketches. Something that works like a CAD program but is free and I only need to do 2D stuff. What I need to do is make a scale drawing of an aircraft wing including all the components of it (flaps, ailerons, wing spars, fuel tanks, etc). I also need to be able to easily show the dimensions and (x,y) locations of everything. I know I'm probably not being very clear... I'll try to upload a hand drawn example when I get home. Does anyone know of a decent, free program to do this?

I'm just sick of spending an hour doing this every week with a calculator and a ruler. And did I mention it needs to be free?

I'll attach a couple examples from my notes until i can upload a good one. Basically I need to combine all three of these into one drawing. (The 3rd is 3D, but I just need to show that stuff in 2D)

I might have something for you, one of my vendors recently released a program that does entire structures M1-6, so its the same code and I could get an idea on where we can start looking. ill report back if I find anything.
