That's not what I'm getting from it.

The way I see it is Red text is evening and where the mafia would night kill. For whatever reason it was unsuccessful.

Yellow is like dawn coming, so any other actions performed by town.

search leads me to believe it was the cop/investigator. By saying 'bright' does that mean he found a mafia? or bright as in "yellow" which is town sided. Not sure.

Guessing at flavour but I'd think there would be three possible outcomes; Bright, Dim, or Dark.

Therefor it would lead me to believe that the cop discovered a townie, as Dim would lead me to believe a roleblock and dark lead me to believe mafia hit. Thoughts?

If you take the flavor literally, it just means that there was an investigation last night. Not what the investigation dug up. I would think revealing that information to the rest of us (via flavor) would put the cop in a bad situation.
