Thread: Hint Overlays

  1. Default Hint Overlays

By reverse engineering this mod: https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=2072137 we can gain the ability to send a particular overlay to individual players and figure out how to make them.

Then we create hint overlays to use for when players have their nade out and it tells them what it does. This way new players to the server understand how to use the special nades for humans and zombies.

Are you able to use the same overlay for wcs abilities at the start to create a tutorial for a player new to a certain race? With the option to turn it off?

If so then I could start making edge cases where a newbie gets killed by a vagalion for example, it would cause a trigger event on death where it would pull raceinfo from the killer and send the victim a message along the lines of "you were just killed by by a vagalion. Try buying a " lace" of immunity in chat and avoid open areas! " "more info @www.tinyurl.com/wcs-guide" or smthn.
Etc. Just random tips for veterans submitted on the forum in the most consice way possible to help new comerssuch as in league and overwatch.

It might get the wcs community involved again, and new comers feel less overwhelmed by the veterans
Started from bottom. Now we here. <IBIS>

The type of overlay I am talking about here is the kind used for the humans win zombies win screen. It is more of a persistent message. In the case of zombie mod it would try to tie into their hud to tell them what the weapon is when they have it selected.

For WCS this could be used to display a lot of information over the users screen.
