you could have use a metal ice cream scoop and a bowl to crush the ice.

also the end of a whisk could have crushed the mint for you

Wtf I'm confused. I thought you were not supposed to muddle/crush the leaves, just massage them a bit to release the aroma!

I rubbed them around the rim of the glass so they would tickle the nose as you go in for it. But my straw is too long!! :(

I don't mean crush it into a mush but crush it so they look broken a little and no the mint won't be bitter.

here's what I do:

grab three or four mint leaves and soak them in ice water first.

grab a tall glass, add the sugar and a very little amount of hot water so the sugar dissolves better (not too much or you'll water the damn drink down)

mix it and dissolve the sugar, add the mint leaves and crush them.

add the rum, give it a good stir, than the ice.

I think sprite taste a little better than soda water so I use that instead.

just make sure you have enough barcardi rum in there.

stir it all up add a couple mints and enjoy.
