omg, i recommend so many, i'm such a nerd.

keep in mind, i focus more on the story and character develpment than on the style of the anime.

    Bleach:
Bleach is pretty good. The first few ep are pretty kiddie, but then turns serious. The only downfall of this series, like Dragonball and Naruto, is that there will prolly be no end, everyone just gets more powerful and more powerful until they turn super saijin 0ver nine thousand.
Still, minus all the filler it's really not a waste of time.

    Trigun:
A must. Begining ep's are pretty kiddie, but halfway through it just gets pretty twisted. The joy of a mini-series is that there's a bigining, a middle and an end. Trigun will definately make you go 'wow'.

    Elfen Lied:
Also a must. Mini-series, it's great. Lots of, and I do say lots of, adult themes. Also check out Nana's Everyday life for a funny/sick parody comic.

    Naruto:
Same with Bleach with the downfalls... but it really is entertaining. After ep 200-something, just stop and switch to Shippuden.
I stopped watching after ep 50 or so b/c of all the fillers.

    Evangelion:
On the fence with this one.
I read the manga first, which has a more complete story line (filled plot holes, less fan service and less annoying voices) and more character development and I loved it.
The anime, the original 22+ episodes, start out kiddie like Trigun but starts to get serious mid way through. Lots of Character Development that makes you go 'omg' at what kinda of psychological twists they force on them.
Watching the original episodes is optional, but i do recomend it. You can start from Evangelion 'Death and Rebirth' and 'End of Evangelion', but you will enjoy that with all it's answers much more if you watch the series.

    Voices of a Distant Star:
A must see movie. made me and my wife cry.
Upon viewing the cover, you think it's a mecha/space action anime. It is, but it's not. The mecha/space action aspect is really a very minor aspect of it. The real shine and point to the movie is that it's a tragic love story.
A must see.. therefore you must see it.

    Grave of the Fireflies:
    **Warning: Very sad, very emotional**
A movie about a boy and his little sister in WWII Japan trying to survive on their own. A must see, really good.
Please, if you don't see anything else, see this.

    My-HiME:
Great all-girl, mecha/super power mini-series. Lots of action, great character develpemnt and good story... also fan service.
I'd say it's not a must see but you will not be disappointed by it.

    FLCL:
A fun mini-series to watch. It's actually more fun trying to understand it while catching all the subtle jokes they have in it. Worth watching, but not a must see.

    Fist of the North Star:
Older anime movie from the 80's, but well worth it. Set in a Mad Max post-nuke future, it has great gore and violence. Some animation makes you want to be on acid to try to enjoy it, but overall is enjoyable to watch.

    The Vision of Escaflowne
    :
Not as good as the others, but not a waste of time either.
At first kiddie and very girlie... after ~5episodes you really start to see a more serious turn. Late in the series they put more twists on the story and characters that make you feel a similiar, but not wholly, 'omg' as in evangelion.

    Gunslinger Girl:
Young girls trained assasins with bionic parts. Cool anime when thinking of Leo the Profesional, but also kinda creepy when it deals with adult guys taking care of pre-teen girls...
not a must see, but not a waste of time.

    Gasaraki:

A serious mech mini series. Unique in that it's mech's are still being developed with muscle memory technolgy tied somehow with ancient japanese rituals.
Very slow, mild action, but interesting if you like mecha's.

    Last Exile:
Beautiful art, animation, music and enviroment in this mini-series but the story is lack-luster.
It was more interesting learning about the characters lives and world that the actual story.

    .hack//Sign:
Slow at first, good character development. But you dont' get the full story b/c it's tied into the video game series... but it's not a waste of time. BTW, it's a mini-series ~23 eps

    BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad:
anime drama. About a japanese boy trying to break into the music scene.
It's more of a coming of age mini-series, but I liked it.

    Haibane Renmei:
meh. Wonderful art, animation and enviroment. Wasn't my type of anime but girls do seem to like more.
I love the artist that designed the characters, but was not into the story itself.

    Gunbuster:
Older anime, from around the 80's. Futuristic anime with space and mecha's. Most notable for it's portrail of the time dialation from near light speed travel. Fun and interesting.

    Excel Saga:
Funny violent anime with great running gags and jokes that play off older episodes.

Cowboy Bebop is the only anime I can enjoy. All the rest are just so damn annoying that I can't finish them.

But Cowboy Bebop is freaking awsome on so many levels.

Black Lagoon - for the simple reason that its not your typically anime shoot'em up that takes place in the south pacific during the early 1990's that deals with a freelance company called black lagoon and its escapades.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and second gig - first couple of episodes of stand alone are kinda boring but once they get into the main plot of the series the rest of the episodes really pick up and its sequel has been good from the get go.

Golgo 13 - kinda like the jackal in the day of the jackal 1973, except us goverment sponsored, more about the target and there motivations rather than gologo 13 himself who is very blade like in his attitude towards his job, mind you its theme songs sucks.

I was under the assumption that everyone and their mother has watched and enjoyed Ninja Scroll. But Detective Conan!? WTF man, you just bumped yourself up on my shit list for that, you homo.

Ninja Resurrection is another oldie but a goodie. 2-Part OAV Series. You can probably find them both on 1-disc, as a package, over here in the states. Now that shit is RAW!

Imma run down a list of anime from the top of my head, and go back an update with info like Truely did, later tonight. Some of them I've already told you about. OAV = Original Animated Video a.k.a. 45-50 minute movie.

Bleach - Fuckin' good ass Series
    Berserk - Series
Shadow Skill - Series and OAV(s) multiple movies
    Ninja Resurrection - 2-part OAV
Ninja Scroll - Movie AND Series - Pick up the series if you havent seen.
    Black Lion - OAV
Grappler Baki - OAV and 2 seasons
X - OAV and 1 season series (Series = BETTER)
Trigun - Series (this was actually a hilarious English dub)
    Escaflowne - Series and OAV
    A couple Gundam series
    Final Fantasy Unlimited - Series
    Inuyasha - Series
Yu Yu Hakusho - Series (this was actually pretty good later on)
    Flame of Recca - Series
Samurai Champloo - I know you've seen this
Battle Angel: Armitage - Bunch of Movies
Ghost in the Shell - Series and OAV(s)
    Cowboy Bebop - Series
    Outlaw Star - Series
FLCL - Weird but cool Series
    Fatal Fury - OAV
    Lodoss War - Series
Record of Lodoss War - Series
Fist of the North Star - Series and a bunch of movies
CRYING FREEMAN - omg awesome Series
    Street Fighter - Movie
    Street Fighter Alpha - Movie
Street Fighter V - Awesome Series
    Battle Arena Toshinden - OAV
    Tekken - OAV
Rurouni Kenshin - Long but decent series
Samurai X - Movies off of the Rurouni Kenshin series (2) of them
Soul Eater - Saw someone mentioned this. It's OKAY, but just okay.
Samurai Deeper Kyo - Pretty Cool Series
Basilisk - Sick animation style - Series
    Hunter X Hunter - Series
Elfen Lied - Bought this for my ex. It wasn't anything special really.
Fate/Stay Night - Pretty original concept - Series
Kite - 2-Part OAV. About young assassins. There's some Pedobear action so watch out!

I've seen too many, between mine and my brother's collections. I'll go through my DVD's though. I only buy good anime. Everything else I just download and delete if it's no good.

Death Note is one of those shitty deleted animes, along with Naruto and Naruto: Shippuuden. I hope no one recommended those.
