well what do you want to do in the service? you wanna cook, fly, rifleman, bosun mate?

Depending what you want to do and your asvab score, Alot of things open up.

Talk to the recruiters to get info but dont be alarmed if they try to sign you right then and there. dont sign anything for meps until you find what you want out of them.

I for one am a boom operator out of a KC-135 Stratotanker in the Air Force. I love my job but its not made for everyone.

    well, your job opportunity
with the army, are not fated on weather or not you go active or not.

Step 1: GoArmy.com and find the careers section. It wont have all the jobs but most

step 2: find one you would be interested in. then find a back up one JUST in case, but it is very unlikley

step 3: ask your recruiter who will buy you free lunch mmmm yumm, ask him what you need to do and what is required for the job you wish to have

step 4: sign your ass up

these steps apply for any service as well

I don't regret signing with the Army. The Army always has jobs available and guarantee you that the job you pick at MEPS will be yours. In the Navy, they open up their jobs only in the beginning of the month, so you won't have as much opportunity to pick a job you want. The Marines, you pick 3 jobs at MEPS and after their Bootcamp, which ever one of the three are open is the one you get. So there is no guarantee you will get the job you want. If all 3 are not open, you will get one that is open and one you didn't have on your list. Also... Marines have a cutoff height of 6'6 (which is dumb) and you can't have any tattoos below your bicep I think? Basically the 4 finger rule. My friend who was in Air Force enjoyed her career in the Air Force and I almost joined the Air Force, but I want to get dirty. The Army isn't afraid to get dirty. National Guard is funded by the state. You stay at home. Reserves you can either stay or go somewhere else if you request. Active (which is what I chose) you go where they tell you. More jobs are available in Active, and I recommend that if your still in school but have no idea what your gonna do... maybe Active is something you want to consider.

Your job selection will be based on your ASVAB, medical PUHLES, and any special courses you took (trig, algebra) I ended up getting 74D which is basically a Chemical, Biological Radiological Nuclear Specialist. In short a Chemical Engineer. I will be dealing with WMDs and shit. I got this job because of certain math classes I took. So when you meet with your Army counselor at MEPS, take a look at all jobs opened to you (and you will get more opened to you because you are a male).

Also, do you have college credits or a degree or obtaining one? With a bachelors college degree you will promote automatically to an E-4. So I am technically a Specialist in the Army (as it states on my Future Soldier Army Card). If not you will start off as an E-1 Private. Pass your PT test before you leave for Basic and you will get to E-2 Private. You can get promoted again in Basic and then you will get to E-3 Private First Class. I don't know how it is in the other branches, but that is how the Army does it. After E-3 it'll be 2 years before you can get promoted again. Talk to a recruiter. My two recruiters are like my best friends. Only one of them is a pretty shady fuck. But most recruiters have your intentions in mind. Good Luck.

You will be dealing with putting people in a gas chamber for training mainly.
