i just got the Samsung Vibrant, TMo's version of the Samsung Galaxy S. The stock rom is fast, but full of bloatware and arbitrary shortcuts masquerading as programs. I immediately dropped the stock home app for LauncherPRO, which is godly. I had a MyTouch 3G before with cyanogen 5.0.7 (576mhz) and launcherRPO, and this new Vibrant is night and day better. I've never used a phone with such excellent call quality, and don't even get me started on the screen. It comes pre-packaged with the full-length Avatar movie to showcase it, and I was seriously awestruck.

Regarding the new processors in fall-winter: I'm not jumping onto that bandwagon until ADB starts showing APIs getting downloaded for multi-core stuff. It's going to be like WindowsXP 64-bit all over again - a fantastic concept, but largely useless until software is written to take advantage...especially since you can guarantee adobe is going to drag their feet writing a port for flash in the new architecture. Adjusting the Linux kernel is easy, its the private companies that will ruin the experience for us.

yea you can def root a droid x so whomever mentioned it prematurely gave an opinion of the phone without knowing. it's a long process but very doable. gonna buy the droid x before i leave with my best buy discount and give that phone to those bitches to figure it out.
