Thread: Reasons not to use a shotgun during a zombie invasion

Lukey played the MC Peepants clip, among others.

Anyway, why have so many people said a shotgun is hard to reload? If anything, it's the easiest kind of gun to reload. Slip a shell right in the bottom. I know, you're thinking about clips and such. But consider how long it takes to load a clip, now consider how many you can carry, then consider how many each holds. No one here is a perfect shot, very few people here have access to military weapons with clips of over 10 rounds, very few people here have access to weapons and a large quantity of corresponding clips. Say you get your hands on a nice tactical vest. 3 slots on the vest for full size assault rifle clips, 2 more in pockets (this is presuming you've got a pack on for your supplies and your cargo pockets have other supplies in them). Now, who here owns an ak-47(or any variant), m-16(or any variant), or any other assault rifle for that matter? This leaves us with approximately 50 rounds in clips, which, being generous, will let you get through 20 zombies. Then your stuck with anything you had time to reload and your swords (for all you katana fanatics). While I would far from abandon weapons utilizing detachable clips, I would be very carefully when considering reloading.

Personally, based on what I have immediate access to, I'd go with something along the lines of this loadout: R700 (scoped, of course), colt 1911 (competition model), Remington 870 (modified choke, varying rounds). The R700 could be exchanged for either a mini-14 or a remington .22.

Also, don't forget that you'll most likey loose clips as you reload if you get into a sticky on-the-go combat situation. So then you'll not only be running through your ammo, but you'll be depleting your overall capacity of readily accessible ammunition.
"An Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II flew a show of force and expended flares for emphasis over Salerno after enemy forces attacked a coalition forward base. The arrival of the aircraft prompted an immediate retreat by enemy personnel."

standard combat loads that marines carry, only last them about 20 minutes in a heavy firefight. that's why there is always a humvee near by stock full of resupplies.

if anything home-made explosives are a great way to clear a huge group at once and than picking remaining zombies off with 2-3 bullets.

The entire point of a magazine is to have it loaded BEFORE an intense firefight.

You won't be spraying to kill the zombies if you know what is good for you, so that is 10-30 shots in a single magazine, which when aimed right count as at least 15 kills.

A shotgun does not even carry ten (if I'm not mistaken), and the shells are not interchangeable between other types of firearms.

An MP5 with 9X19 parabellum would work with both an mp5 and glock 17 (as would a .40 and 10mm) and those are the two types of firearms I would carry. The ammunition and firearms are both very light, and would be much easier to carry around during action than a shotgun and a box of shells.

    Agreed.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

I like the idea of turning a prison into a fort in a zombie apocalypse.

zombies can't bend steel and you could easy trap a whole group of them in a section and than

    that part of the jail.

First thing I would do if I kept one, is see how long it takes for it to starve to death, if it does. Or if it may be effected by light, or a cross. Or what it takes to kill it, or if it sleeps. Etc.

Instead of setting my entire base on fire!

I would easily be able to set up dozens of fallback points in a jail given enough time though, in case something did go wrong.
