Police departments, as you suggested, could have some nice equipment, although they would have many of the same problems as military bases. Wal-Mart? (depending upon your state)
Local precincts are not very well defended.

Especially the one where my father works.

But where do you think people would rush during an apocalypse of any sort? Large/important buildings where they think they can get help. Never said the cops were the ones who were going to be giving you trouble (I think this idea was taken from zombie survival guide, not positive though).

I think Wal-Mart because, at least to the ones I've been to in PA, they've got a nice stock of guns, ammo, and most other supplies you can think of (although it's not very likely that you'll get top quality stuff lol).

Plus, if we're talking looting, you can eliminate some of the problems I mentioned about clips earlier. If you're getting them for free you can just grab as many as you can carry.

actually the first place I would try to make my way too, is the Gun Emporium. It actually has a working mini gun in it. That store is loaded with different types of weapons and believe it or not, tactical shit. everything from kneepads to kevlar helmets. plus the humvee they use to advertise the store is such a great vehicle to modify and take to your local walmart.

Who needs a humvee if the enemy doesn't shoot back?

Shit, I'd just get a minivan, cut a big hole in the roof and attach a 50 cal to it and I'm set.

why wouldn't you?? on a humvee you wouldn't have to cut out a hole to mount a .50 cal on it, since it has one already.

why go out of your way to modify a vehicle when it already has everything needed on it.

Gas. I'll take the extra work over the possibility of running out of fuel twice as quickly.

    I second this.

    Humvees are gas guzzlers.

Like NYS is a jizz guzzler.

That’s the funny thing about trolls: They love to do something horrible, then accuse you of doing something horrible when you call them on it.

You might need to, so it helps to at least have ideas when you're in odd situations.

But yeah, I'd get either a van or a bus if I could.. Maybe even a boat.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Well, the Humvee, provided you can find a gas station, has a much larger tank, so I presume the overall mileage (assuming you have a source to fill your whole tank) matches out pretty well. Plus, minivans aren't exactly all terrain vehicles, nor are the very sporty: the one I have to drive on occasion can't take most turns at much more than 20mph without risk of putting it up on two wheels. If you have a supplies nearby (or at your destination), or if you know you can loot en route to wherever you're going, a utility ATV might work.

inthebutt, stop reminding me that I live in a state with far too many gun laws for a store like the gun emporium to support itself. The closest thing to useful combat gear I could loot would be clothing/tactical gear from a surplus store nearby. Have a gun store nearby, although they don't really stock anything I can't already get except a large supply of ammo. Loads of car dealerships, none of which would be of any use though, unless of course you're apocalyptic automobile of choice is a Mercedes... or a Lexus... or a Toyota... or a Subaru...
