Eugh, Plantronics is well known for quality? I've gone through 4 of their headsets and none lasted more than 6 months cause the cable connection was shit.

Beyer makes some kickass stuff for an absurd price. I would definitely not spend $300+ on a headset for games, though. I'd rather have a new video card.

There are two problems with desktop mics. First, you need a place to put it (unfortunately I do not have that, small desk + 2 monitors). Second, the place you put it needs to be in a position where it will pick up your voice clearly and without background noise, which is much harder to accomplish than with a headset mic. Anyone familiar with recording knows the significance of distance in relation to signal-to-noise ratio, and that $2 desktop mic isn't exactly going to be up to the standard of a quality super/hyper-cardioid condenser mic for clean, accurate voice recording at a distance - and if there's one thing I can't stand, it's someone with a noisy or garbled mic.
