He probably used bait or caught them in something like a cage. Or dragged them while on his horse. Or cast Death and Decay and then lured them all in somehow.

I loved the first season of this show, but the second season blows imo. Is it just me or are you lucky to see one zombie in an episode now? The fact that they keep going back to the pharmacy to grab stuff is utter bullshit. If I was in a situation like that, that store would be completely empty, would not leave any antibiotics or pain meds. Nothing is realistic in the survival sense anymore, where do they keep getting ammo? They have ammo enough to teach others how to shoot? If I was in those situations I definitely wouldn't be wasting ammo. Daryl constantly has fresh clean arrows for his crossbow and they never break or dull. I bow hunt and just about every time I shoot an arrow it gets destroyed. If I miss chances are it hits a rock and the shaft splinters same with hitting a tree, If I hit a deer or pig with oneit usually hits a rib and the tip breaks. If you were to hit a human skull with an arrow the shaft would splinter, break or the tip would eventually become dull and break.
