What I might do is try to get someone to rebuild the desk and while they are at it put in a full width keyboard tray. For one it could be a lot more sturdy if the try was attacked to the actual sides of the desk instead of the bottom on the top board. In addition having a 62" keyboard tray is great especially if you got a wide keyboard like I do. Normally I only have 10" of space for my mouse to move left and right which is why I have always played with such high sensitivity. The real key would be having a new tray built that is that size as it needs to be strong enough to resit about 1000N of impact force.

    Easy solution ^.

Cut out the old wood and rebrace the desk. Add a cross support for the back.

2 side rails, 2 under rails with underlying braces, done.

Alternatively I have located a replacement desk. This is one of those last desk you will ever buy solutions:

Unfortunately at $2000 for the 72" version and shipping I think I would need to start a donation drive to afford it

The buy zero a kick ass desk fund, anyone? Hey in theory with a really nice desk (and perhaps if I ever got a new chair) I could sit at the computer longer and finish more wcs races...
