When the Susan B Komen foundation was founded, it was because Susan B Komen died of breast cancer and her sister started the cause for her. MS150 is the same manner. Someone that had MS touched or was the person that started the foundation. That's how MOST of these get started. Someone with the money to START a charity is bestowed a reason to start it. I wouldn't go out and start a foundation for AIDS because I don't know anyone WITH AIDS. Magic Johnson has AIDS and he started a foundation. Same goes for Michael J Fox. He has Parkinsons, he started a foundation. I doubt either of them would have gone to the lengths they did if they did not have their ailments. Then there are activists. Bill Gates has BILLIONS. He has no known ailments, yet he spends hundreds of millions EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. What does he get in return? Nothing more than he gave other than a little press or a good feeling. He does it anyway.
The woman I love and hope to marry was diagnosed with MS 10 months after we met. You had BEST believe that if there is a miracle cure that will keep her on her feet and living a healthy and normal life, I want to be a part of it. I'm not going to let other people handle things because if EVERYONE had that mindset, nothing would get done. If I had the money to found a charity for it, I absolutely would. I don't have that money, what I do have is time and a little bit here and there and I give when I can.
