I doubt they actually care much about what the people think. They are more about the money and power. That is the reason they are always looking for more of both.
Also the point about removal of self gov I quote:
“Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him? Let history answer this question.”
However I think that we can all agree that:
“What is history but the story of how politicians have squandered the blood and treasure of the human race?”
But most of all I think what people need to remember is that:
“Government is not reason. It is not eloquence. Government is force; like fire it is a dangerous servant -- and a fearful master.”
Logically fire can be safe when we keep is small and in the palm of our hand. However fire when released will quickly spread and devour everything.
I very much like the idea of relating government to fire. Fire like government must have fuel to keep going. Both constantly try to grow in search of ever more fuel. Both can the life and death of man. If you let a fire grow with no restraint it will devour the earth if you let government grow with no restraint it will devour the earth.
Fire is great it helps you cook keeps you warm gives you light and helps protect you. However if you surround yourself with too much fire just as placing it in your home the moment you take your eye off it you and your house have been burnt to the ground. Likewise is government where the more places you allow it to enter the faster it will destroy you as soon as your eyes are elsewhere.
