Thread: what would you do?

  1. Post what would you do?

Ok so here's a funny story about my day at work. Before I begin I must tell you that I open at McDonald's(sometimes). We arrive at a meeting spot before going to the actual store.(security reasons). Suppose to meet a 4 am. It takes and hour to open. Now here's the story.

I get to the meeting spot at 3:50. One other employee arrived 7 minutes before me. Following me was a buddy of mine, and our prep lady.
The time is now 4:00. We are now waiting for our manager to arrive because otherwise we cannot get into the store. ( that's what we call our restraunte. ) keep in mind that should already be in there. 30 minutes go by and still no manager. So we made a phone call to one of the managers. We asked her if she opened, she said no, but she informed us of who did. So we called him about 4 or 5 times and got no answer. So we wait a little longer. The time is now 5:10am.
We start to call our store manager, and not even she answers. We called her about 20 times all together and got no answer. So we ended up just waiting around hoping a manager would show up.. the time is now 6:00.
We are all crowded around our vehicles listening to music, when the cops show up. Yes, I said COPS. Someone working in a store nexto ours has called the cops on us. Appearantly we were Beeing suspicious. He asked us "what are yall doing out here". To which i replied " waiting on our manager"... After checking all of our vehicles for suspicious materials he gets in his squad car and leaves. Finally we have had enough waiting. The time is now 6:45am.
We finally end up calling our general manger( supervisor for 5 of the 13 stores in north AL.) We inform her of our situation and she calls another one of our managers, who's number we did not have. So by 7:15 am we finally get into the store and rush to get everything ready to open.
The time is 8:00 and the store is open. What a morning it was.

What would you do in a situation like this?

It's not for someone to care about I don't. I got paid for waiting. I just thought it was interesting story.

In the most professional way, just ask for your hours (if it is honestly required by McDonalds employees to meet at a "secret" spot before opening), and possibly compensation for time loss. If it's 100% not legit in McDonald's corporation contract for you to have an early morning meeting, it's done and loss cause for you.
If it has been an on-going situation, and if you are putting in the hours and effort, possibly put in your name for the job position. If it happened this one time, ehhhhh waste of time for you.
As an owner for myself for 3 other tint shops, I just say, open up, make me money, and gtfo.
If you dont say anything, I call pussy.

    Problem solved.

F.Y.I., In the near future, a big corporation like that, don't retaliate against the corporation. Show dedication and hard work. This way, your GM or their corporate officer will see, and offer you high position (without the education that other people graduate for). You will either end up as manager, branch manager, officer of purchases, etc. Business is business, but it's the consistency and dedication corp look for. You may work at McDonalds now, but who knows, you may soon work for corporate at McDonalds and make shit load of money.

Work hard man, and always strive for the best. You won't know where you end up till it's the end.

True that. Thanks for the advice.

This used to happen to me quite often when I worked at Blockbuster Video back in the day (every high schooler should've worked there - some of the best times ever!). As I recall, I didn't get any back pay for time spent sitting around, so feel fortunate. :P

Low pays jobs that require little skills and experience tend to be the least rewarding but are great for fucking around. I worked at little Caesars in high school. I became an expert on chunking dough at unelectable coworkers.

Oh man, I desperately miss the almost complete lack of responsibility but I positively do not miss the pay. I think at the height of my Blockbuster career I was one step below Store Manager and making a whopping... wait for it... $11.15 an hour. And I was responsible for opening that bitch up and depositing the previous day's earnings at the bank so it's not as if I was just another lackey. I had keys and everything! (lawl)

$11.15 barely buys a fucking Value Meal at Taco Bell anymore. It's hard to believe people work for those wages as their career and survive. Gomer, I hope McDonald's is just a stepping stone for you too as I mean no offense at all (and that includes anyone who currently makes $11.15 or so an hour).
