Well, in this case, he WAS anti town, in all meaning of the word. But, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is a true adage in some cases. You just have to weigh pros and cons. Deciding when they aren't useful anymore. If you kill someone too quickly, you lose the chance to get all the information you can out of them.
