View Full Version : It has finally died
My beloved Dell Dimension E521 has finally died. It is still running, but the screen is super low res with a bunch of static and lines through it, and it frequently freezes up and crashes, sometimes wont even boot up. I have successfully transferred all of my files to a portable harddrive, so no losses that i can tell of.
Anywho, I need a new computer and would like some help/suggestions. I currently sported an amd athlon 64 dual core and had two gigs of ddr memory, so I would like an upgrade from that, but it doesnt need to be amazing or anything, just something that can handle the new games decently enough. I do not know how to assemble or build a computer so buying things piecemeal aint gonna work for me, so any suggestions on a place to get a good model or build would be much appreciated, kind of want to keep it around the 600-800 dollar mark if that is feasible.
It shall be missed. Dude, I got a dell, but it got my heart....

In my opinion for someone like you, this would be the way to go. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

A decent i5 build with a nice GFC and PSU would suffice for the 600$ range.
Jesus: Looks promising, is there a way to get just a tower from them, my monitor and stuff still works, 15 inch square yall
Steamer: That sounds good, I do not know what i5, GFC and PSU means, I have a general idea, Graphics card?

My tower is from them because I was too damn lazy to make my own. I got the tower and keyboard & mouse was complimentary. So yeah you can just get a tower from them. Paid $900 for my tower.

These are my specs
So i don't know what im looking at when i look at that stuff, im guessing like any of the models they have there will have the ability to play source and GO, and NS2 and the like without issue?

ie better than what im currently sporting

Any of their computers are more than capable of supporting source, go, ns2, and any other steam game you can imagine. My computer handles shit like D3 on full graphics and then optimized conditions through my graphics card. I have one I'm going to order soon, with an additional graphics card and 8 core processor. But that will be in due time. Kind of expensive.
Essentially set it up basic, and if you want to pretty much just be capable of playing those games and a few others that may catch your attention then set it up around the same specs as mine. But the case and shit like that don't have to be fancy. If you run into any issues on the ordering just drop your questions here and I can try to walk you through a lil better.
Ok, probably place an order this weekend, not desperate yet, but want to replace my pc pretty quickly. Do those things get wifi?

They aren't standard with the computers, however it is an option under the accessories tab close to the bottom, you have your choice of an internal or external wireless card. You will have to pay extra for it, so it is all about preference and what you are willing to spend.

Note: Your computer chose a good time to fail and for you to order a new one from them, as there is obviously a sale going on this weekend due to Memorial Day.
I'm moving to a new apt next month, and I can run a cord to the jack, but wifi would be easier, however, which is better for gaming, or does it not really matter all that much?

Wired is better, no lag in the connection, just the same as wired mouse and keyboard are better for gaming as well.
is it worth it to upgrade the power supply from 350 watz? and is intel i5 better or same as amd 6 core?

and sound card, onboard alright?

internal network card, lan good or should i get the upgrade?
- - - Updated - - -
and if i get wireless card, which one, how much of mps do i need

Think ill just go with this, thoughts? By comparison with my old Dell, how much of an upgrade is this? Any modifications on what it comes with standard?

and if anyone had a promotion code it would be much appreciated
and if i get the wifi thing for the computer, do i still have the ability to plug a hardline into it?

I will answer none of your questions other than the one you just posted. Yes. And the Gamer Dragon looks fine. Definitely better than your last setup.
but, but, my questions need answers
also, im clearly online, but with my laptop, and steam insists that i am not online, so whats the deal with that?
no suggestions for the dragon settup? I'm going to place the order tonight

Well considering the CPU is liquid cooled you cant go wrong there. I would upgrade the video card, by comfortable price for you. The video card on that one, compared to mine is $124 increase to get mine.(so dont go that high unless you want.) Warranty and Rush service up to you but I would do both.

If you want to upgrade the CPU, you can. I have the same one that is for that computer.
Is the graphics card it comes with good enough for GO NS2 and the like, and god willing, the new fallout when it come out in 2035?
and witht he wireless, any thoughts on the mps i would need to get good internet?
- - - Updated - - -
and what type of warrenty, it comes with like a 3 year one off the bat
And the power supply, really does anyone know if I should upgrade from 350 watt? I decided to go with the next tier up on cpu, to an eight core, and the next tier on video card, the 250x, thoughts?
with the upgrades i mentioned, and upping the power supply to 500 watts, with taxes, comes to 865.46. Does this sound good?

with using everything that you have, upping the power is the best thing. I just read your note of upping the power. Yeah everything looks good, needless to say everything in these computers are a helluva lot easier to replace and upgrade when the time comes as compared to your standard factory made computers. Now an explanation for the warranty is, 3 year(labor) is you pay for the parts if needing to be replaced but labor cost is free, and 1 year(parts) meaning the first year of having the computer from date of receiving it, if one of the parts fail or break they will replace with no cost to you and because the parts coincides with the labor, it will cost you nothing in the 1st year if something happens to your computer via malfunction or faulty equipment.
i understand the warrenty, i feel like the standard 3 year, 1 year parts should be sufficent, its 200 more to get another year of parts, not sure its really worth it.

also, any idea where they ship from? I'm not in a huge rush, but need to get it in the next few weeks since I'm going to be out of the country at the end of june through july
Old Bastard

They ship from California where the company is. They hand-make every one of their computers. Which is why I said you may want to up the shipping a little more.
I live in california, so it should ship like a mother fudger

They have to build it first, their estimated build date for your computer is like June 5th
lets say they miss that date and its not done to june 10th, it should definitly reach me in state in less than 2 weeks from the 10th, i think it should be fine, yall just wont see me in game anytime soon, not sure i want to pay 50 bucks for what could amount to being only a few days faster
It has been done, new PC on the way, with an upgrade from 2 gigs of ram and a dual core processor, i should increase my killing power 10 fold.
Many thanks to Jesus. May it arrive in a timely and safe fashion.

You're going to spend an extra 200$ with no gain from that company. i5 it's Intel central processing unit. GFC is graphics card. PSU it's power supply. You have left over parts and a case. Newegg. Build it. Use your brain. Save money. Win. You are paying too much with the build you posted. :smirk:
too late steamer, already ordered. I don't build computers, and I'm not going to try to piece one together. I know nothing about what parts are good and what I need, this will suffice

Well not entirely. You still have to factor in labor, be it him or them.
- - - Updated - - -
And granted it's not a terrible deal, it would cost less to build it yourself but when you are lazy or cant do it, they are the ones to go to.

Yeah, plus the time it would take to research the best pieces to get, and then the research to learn how to assemble one, and my Dell case wont work so i would need to get another one anyways, Plus it would take a hell of alot longer for me to assemble one. I do not do computers. Cars, sure, home improvement, you bet, whittling, yep, but computers, no.

Takes like 3-4 hours to put one together. There are good tutorial videos on the interwebs to show you how exactly to build it. There are also places you can go where you can tell them your budget and they'll do all the research for you. However Iit's too late since you already ordered your new computer. I built my own having never touched the inside of a computer before and I got it right on the first try.

You dont need to do the research yourself
cancel that order if you can
http://www.logicalincrements.com/
If you can do cars and home improvement, you can put together legos, its easier then cars and home improvement with everything being toolless now a days, its all just plug and play
Cant cancel, I am happy with my purchase, it is a big upgrade. I went with the help I was getting and it provided me with what I need.

To be honest, everyone has their own opinion and mine was this company. I didn't force him to do it, he chose to by looking at what they have to offer. Every computer you order on there are completely customizable and to be honest I firmly believe their handy work is worth every penny. I had one made by them, cuz I was lazy and I'm perfectly capable of building one myself.

When you go to upgrade it later down the road, your biggest single upgrade would be a SSD. Mine is nearly 2 years old and I still boot into windows in under 15 seconds and that is with sata II. I'm not even using it to its full capacity. It might not boost your graphics, but your load times for everything will be much, much faster. Generally, I only put a project I am currently working on in photoshop or the like on it, along with windows (including page files!), major programs, and my most played computer games. Sadly, it is pretty full--which is why I'm going to buy a new one and put them into a Raid-0 which will double the throughput! Installing them is a snap (you don't even need to turn off the system to install it, though it is highly recommended) and the performance increase--well, I just couldn't believe how fast it is.
Just be sure that you keep your old HDD and use it for storage of videos, music, and the like.

At 80+ cert it isn't, but don't be expecting to upgrade much with it. Overall, ok deal. At the price though, Intel would have been a much better choice. Enjoy though buddie, not bad for not knowing how to do yourself.
thanks steam, first gaming pc ive ever had, im looking forawd to playing some new games wihtout things freezing, or it taking 30 minutes to load an ns2 map
