Actually it is slower (than xp) but mostly faster than vista. It is much faster at network file transfers as in 100% faster. It uses ram better than vista as well. Some old games still do not work even with the xp compatibility mode that note is NOT SUPPOSED TO SUPPORT GAMES. This is becuase the xp mode has no video driver support and was probably designed that way to fuck over anyone who was hoping their games would work. Also the xp mode is ONLY in the two highest versions (professional and ultimate). The interface apparently is much more responsive then xp. It uses a "better" (worse) menu bar system in comparison to xp however it could turn out better when I actually try it. Really the only reason to go from xp to this is the dx11 support without the bs of vista. Think of it as everything vista was supposed to be without the crap.

If you ignore the existence as you should this is the first new os to be released after xp. It supports dx 10 and 11 and offers a different user interface. It does all of this while reaming very stable using virtually equivalent resources. It does however break some old games and will break any program that requires hardware accelerated sound. It also offers some new network features that work only in win 7. Based of these new features an upgrade from xp should be worth the following:
Premium: $50
Professional: $85
Ultimate: $100

If you pay more than the above prices then your getting ripped off becuase the benefits of the change relative to the cost is virtually the prices listed above.

What puzzles me is that I paid for Windows Live Onecare and it's not compatible. Why would you have a Security software from the same company and make it not compatible.
Bad move.

Nevermind. LiveOne care has been discontinued as of yesterday by Microsoft to be replaced by Windows Security Essentials currently in beta testing.

Out of all the "upgrades" listed above...and glancing at that pretty screen....oh and realizing that Windows 7 is STILL a Microsoft product...

I almost just puked myself and gave my 24'' iMac a big hug.

1. Macs are garbage.
2. Vista is not as bad as people make it out to be.
3. Fuck Windows 7. I'm so sick of having to deal with this 64/32 bit bullshit now since I had to trade for a refurbished studio laptop, and I would rather they just make an update that is just what it is. None of these fancy bells and whistles (IM LOOKING AT YOU MACINTOSH FUCKS).

Fail explanation. 7 Owns Vista.

Just what are you gonna do when Windows 8/9 comes along with 128 bit...

Christmas... you can upgrade to 7 for free, if you own Vista. Just call Microsoft. It's a shame not many people know about this.

OR, maybe that was only a thing they were doing pre-release. :(

What fancy bells and whistles does my MAC have? My iMac is just a screen with a wireless keyboard and Razer Death-Adder mouse...no crazy cables, no huge tower, nothing. Doesn't acquire viruses, never slows down, I get over 120fps with everything in the video settings on HIGH, I never lag...my image is crystal clear, I don't have to deal with 64/32 bit shit....and I don't have to do any type of maintenance to keep it that way. (disc cleanup, virus scan, defrag, adaware removal, registry fixes, etc...etc...the list goes on)

now...which one of those "fancy bells and whistles" is a bad thing? I'm pretty sure my $1500 was well worth the 3.16ghz duo-core, 512mb video card, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, 24 inch screen and all my "fancy bells and whistles" I listed above.

No hard feelings, this is purely a battle of computer types...nothing more nothing less, I don't take anything personal.

But Christmas, have you ever owned a MAC? A new mac that is...none of those old G4/G5 PoS. Just curious.

Macs are still over priced =\. They do get viruses and require maintenance o_O. Maybe not as much as Windows, but that's only because the OS isn't as widely used. All my maintenance is fully automated, requires no input from me at all, except when I first set everything up.

Nowadays there not much off from PC's really. I mean.. if I really wanted too.. I could through Snow Leapord on my Home PC... Its just a pain in the ass dealing with all the drivers and all as Mac likes to keep there list kind of "exclusive", hence why the OS is so "compatible" with hardware. It's tailor made and not very open.

1500$ is a bit expensive for them specs =\. But with a Mac, you pay for the "OS" rather than actual hardware cost. Mac or PC, they both work fine.

I enjoyed using MACs strictly for production purposes. Back in the day, I still ran into many unexplained and bs errors, similar to the windows BSOD. I'm sure as the OS has been completely re-hauled that the system runs better, but I still prefer the customizability(is that even a word?!) that PC's come with.

Upgrading a PC is rather inexpensive, where-as a MAC... well, "Apple" is known to be overly priced in everything.

I haven't had to perform any type of maintenance on my Mac what-so-ever to keep it in pristine condition. Also, viruses on a Mac are a lot different than viruses that PC's get. I mean sure they have the same purpose but you can get a virus on a PC just from clicking on a porn site. On a Mac you actually have to download and install the "virus" aka file/program...which is effin' sweet IMO.

And personally (each to his own) I don't think the $1500 price tag for my iMac is all that bad. Take this Alienware for example...(building right now on Dell.com)

-2.66ghz Quad Core
-Windows 7 Home Premium
-Single 1.8GB NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GTX 260 192 Core
-3GB Triple Channel 1067Mhz DDR3
-500gb HDD
-No Wireless Card, No Keyboard/Mouse Included, No Monitor, No Word/Excel/any productivity programs included...

$1598 before taxes/shipping. And adding a keyboard, mouse, wireless card, productivity suite AND a 24 inch monitor (comparing to my apples monitor size), you are looking at another $400 plus in expenses.

Compared to the new 27 inch iMac that has a 2.86ghz Quad Core, 4gb RAM, 1TB HDD, 512mb ATI graphics...already coming with a wirelesskeyboard, wireless mouse, wireless net-card, productivity suite and of course the 27 inch monitor (duh)...for only $1999.00. Pretty close in price but in a sexy all-in-one monitor layout. MMMMM.

Regardless, a PC can do some things a Mac can't do and visa versa, but I'd much prefer a MAC over a PC for numerous reasons. Not just because I own a MAC right now either...I've owned a Dell E1505 laptop, Dell desktop, my brother has an Alienware M17x...and now I own a 24 inch iMac, and a 15 inch Macbook Pro and there is just no comparison as to how smoothly things run on a Mac.

I DO agree with this though, 100%. PC's are much easier AND cheaper to customize and upgrade. But then again that is why I like Mac...simple. And you CAN upgrade a MAC to an extent...such as changing my 4gb RAM to 8gb or 16gb RAM....that's roughly it, haha but ya know.
