As if two 560's and 3 460's are confusing enough, at least those things had the same core for their product

http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2011/6/6/nvidia-prepares-third-geforce-gtx-560-for-back-2-school-surprised.aspx

Should be called the 565, its just a striped down 580. Like how the 465 is a striped down 480

I know maymay will kill me for double posting but I ended up getting a better deal for the same rig. I also got a 19" monitor as well as a free copy of Shogun 2. No you can't have it, I already handed it to Steamer.

All this extra plus the previous stats for $900.

Too bad I have absolutely no wireless on it so I am going to have to steal the router from my apartment. :smirk:

new amd apu whats your thoughts? and how long do i have to wait for the bulldozer

StarsMine

The APU is great, It has more GPU power then a console and a CPU about equivilent to a Athlon II x4. It runs on the fm1 socket though

Bulldozer should be out late augest early september, will be on the am3+ boards, however am3+ has no future. The successor to Bulldozer will be on the Fmx socket, same with the APUs.

Just bought myself a new desktop. Unfortunatly since I could not find a Bit fenix shinbi anywhere (well I did but it was over retail AND 20 bucks shipping) I ended up with a CM scout. Really really wanted a White shinobi case :(

Anyways The rig has two purpuses, gaming and folding, I was originally planing on getting bulldozers, but since that got pushed to q4, I went with an i7 2600k being cooled by a Noctua d14. I Also managed to get a hands on a antec HCG 650w PSU, absolutely amazing ripple suppression on that thing so here comes the high OC :). 8 gigs of 1600 mhz ram at 1.5v. Got a nice HP 1920x1200 monitor, 24 inch. I will be using the GTX 460 768 from my previus rig untill Kepler comes out q1 and use my EVGA bucks on that. Could it be Cloudflare's optimization proxies, maybe a direct alternative just in case would help some users out.

Bulldozer = FAIL!

Well, unless you want to make a machine for the sole purpose of video encoding / transcoding.

Don Hamis
10-12-2011, 05:28 AM
In 2000, he did early pioneering work with Manuel Blum on CAPTCHAs, computer-generated tests that humans are routinely able to pass but that computers have not yet mastered. These devices are used by web sites to prevent automated programs, or bots, from perpetrating large-scale abuse, such as automatically registering for large numbers of accounts or purchasing huge number of tickets for resale by scalpers. CAPTCHAs brought von Ahn his first widespread fame among the general public due to its coverage in The New York Times, USA Today, Discovery Channel, NOVA scienceNOW, and other mainstream outlets.

yeah bulldozer is fail. i read a few article with it being stacked against Intel's gen2 chips and there was a 2.2mHz difference between the chips. I mean if you're gonna make an 8 core processor at the very least have it breach 4gHz and not just 3.6 or 3.8 which is what my i5 is pulling.

Thats not the problem with it. Also the higher the core count the harder it is to get higher frequancy.
Lets say there is a 25% chance a core can hit 5ghz, multiply that by 4 and that how it likely it will be for a 4 core chip to get 5ghz stable
Its why the freq record they broke only had 1 modual (2 cores) active, and how the previus record was held by a celeron chip.

Also speed is a moot point. a P4 can hit 5 ghz but its IPC is so damn low, it did not matter. And thats the problem with bulldozer, its IPC is less then a deneb.

Belphegor
10-22-2011, 03:27 PM
yeah that sucks. just wait for whatever Intel comes out with, they got some new chip structures that they're messing around with that increase speed a shitload. but all that is still in the experimental phase.

So i just recently installed a new 750w PSU, a 990xa-UD3 AM3+ MoBo, and a 6850 Raedon GPU. When ever i play heavy 3D games like skyrim, i get horizontal lines that move up and down my screen periodically and then after about 5 min my screen turns either gray with horizontal lines going threw it, black with what looks like a 1900x100 resolution horizontal line at the top of my screen, and lastly and most oddly, a bunch of horizantal lines that distort visibility while at the same time the left half of my screen inverts with the right half of the screen....

what could the possible problems be and here is what iv tried. I re-installed all my video drivers, im about to go into bios and tweak with my ram settings, i reseated all my ram, and i tried setting my settings down to low in skyrim.

this problem does not occur in counterstrike at all unless i have pandora running in the steam window and when it happens after then.. its just a comp freeze resulting in a restart.

11-15-2011, 11:06 PM
Any time a game is not working graphically like that, or it is running really slowly even on lowest gfx settings, it can usually be fixed by simply lowering your resolution. Also make sure the resolution matches your monitor, like don't use a widescreen setting for the game on a normal monitor. Make sure your windows resolution is set to the optimal setting for your monitor, then make sure your game matches it or set it lower.

There isnt a bios update, the bios for my MoBo is beta 990xa-UD3 Rev 1.1. I did just go into my bios though and found that my ram was auto over clocked to 2.2k ..my ram is old and cant handle more then 1.8 so i changed that and my MoBo also auto clocked it to a 11 11 11 28 time scheme. So i fixed that. I didnt crash the rest of this morning but i still got this screen that i can Alt-F4 out of to fix, which i guess is better then a black screen that involves restarts.

when i get home from work im going to try re fitting the GPU, its pretty heavy it may be lose. Then ill re install windows (somthing i havnt done in the last 8 months.)

Not untill games start using more cores.
Games prefer more powerfull cores over multiple cores.
Your CPU would be right on par with a pentium g630, so You should be fine with your current one for gaming untill at least haswell.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/55?vs=406
a quad wont give you that much of a boost in gaming, the IPC and clock of the new chips will. Just overclock what you have.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/55?vs=288

GPU like a 6850 might be a better investment, but two 4850s is still a massive force to be reckoned with. What resolution are you playing at?

ZERO
02-24-2012, 06:23 PM
Correct, you may lose performance in some games if you get too small a quad core. However the new sandy bridge is much faster even if you got a dule. However you will need to replace your motherboard for any upgrade that is worth it cpu wise.

Totally agree with zero and starmine. Your not going to get much of a boost for gaming by switching just a cpu. Toms hardware post articles every month on whats the best bang for your buck, and the tend to be pretty accurate with all the test they done http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-4.html

I myself have two Amd 4850s with a i7 920 processor and still serving me well. Best spent of 200 would be to buy a GPU or save up and go with a 1155 socket motherboard and get an i5 processor. The 775 motherboard is whats really limiting you

Thanks. For CSS I'm maxed out and usually at about 300fps. Some maps it dips to 150 at times with a lot of action, but I'm not complaining. More concerned with getting graphics maxed out for GO when it comes out. Sounds like I can just wait for GO and react accordingly.

When I attempt to power it on, it just cycles on then off. When it comes on the second time it just powers on and the fans stay on. I get no visual signal, nor does my mouse get power.

My pc is a Dell optiplex 755.I am running XP with more than max RAM. I have a GE Force 8600 GTS vid card but other thanks that it is stock. I was going to start by replacing the power supply, but if anyone has a clue what happened it would be great.

Tried to attach pics from my phone. Do not know if it worked. Also if you notice the cooling fins are chopped off to make room for the vid card. I forgot about doing that. It's been running that way for a couple of years.

some cases its a just a power supply gave out with lack of air flow and over heats in seconds or amps dropped to low to power motherboard. or motherboard is toast hard to say. best thing to do is check you voltatges on powersupply. If that seems good then it has be motherboard. or if board lights up could be Graphics card bad an just shows a black screen. possiblily look at board with popped are resistors.

either way unless its the powersupply you probably better off buy a new computer. Or build your own like a real gamer

I'm about 90% sure that it is the video card. I had a custom case for awhile, but the small case was easier to restrict access to my 3 year old. I think I have another 8600 somewhere. Either way I'll be without game access for awhile.

So I have 2 ATI 4850 graphics cards and thinking about upgrading with about budget of $250(been considering a 7850) even though my motherboard is only PCI Express 2.0.
Anyone have some suggestions on a graphics card for 250 price point and/or less. Should i wait till the next series of Nvidia and AMD cards

I tend to buy one card then SLI or Crossfire a few months down the road.

specs of pc are i7 920 and a Msi x58 motherboard that supports SLI and crossfire

At that price range you only got the 7850 and the nvidia 560ti. The 7850 is faster and sucks less power, so I would go for it. But nvidia has not come out with any budget card this generation... yet. So maybe wait for the "660" to come out and see if prices for other cards come down after that.

I would wait for the low cost Nvidia cards they will have a crazy amount of power for the money :wtg:

Okay so I have an unusual question. My crack head uncle is broke again so he is coming to live with my dad. He has stolen things in the past, and I would like to use an old web cam to set up a surveillance that saves things in an remote, off my computer location, and be able to access them remotely. (Just in case he steals my pc.)

I have racked my brain on this, can't find anything.

It has to be free.

The 600 series is so much better everything pre 600 series regardless of power is basiclaly worthless. The 600 series is more like 700 or 800 series as far as actual power is consurened vs what you normally get from going form one gen to the next.

only thing i can think of that is close to free is(if you already have some webspace), using a free video capture software to save directly to your PC, then run a script to record at 1 min intervals(or however long, most security recordings are defaulted to 1 min) then upload those videos via script to the webspace, using Task Scheduler inside control panel > Admin tools

create 2 skype accounts, initiate video conference from another machine and use http://www.evaer.com/ to record video chat (or another software)

actually no, what has been happening more often then not is with a high end card, using a low end GPU for physX actually bottlenecks the more powerful card.
A 580 can do graphics and phsyx faster then a 540 can do the physX.

I Would like to keep the 460 inside the computer for folding anyways. If I get the 660 ti, I should start testing it out, see how much of a frame boost I can get.

So, I've been playing on a labtop for the past few months now and it just decided to start acting up approx 4 days ago. Basically - i've been getting a whole 5 seconds of lag in CSS for no reason with a ping of like 8 for example. I don't know the cause exactly, but I've already done the following:

-Checked my connections (it's a labtop, i know >.>)
-Checked other users in house (not the problem, seeing how i'd experience this when nobody used the other computers nor were there torrents being DLd)
-Restarted my Labtop (multiple times)
-Shut it down completely, wait a couple minutes, then turn it back on (pretty much same as restarting but meh)
-Ran CC Cleaner multiple times
-Done a virus scan (nothing)
-Did a disk defrag

Specs to the labtop are on here : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o03_s00_i00

Guess my question is - any solutions to this or suggestions? Yes, I know we are a gaming community but at the same time, I know there's better Computer Wizs out there than myself.

Your laptop specs are some of the worst for fps games with decent graphics. When in the server press `or~ key and type cl_showfps 1 and check top right corner for your fps. Anything below 60 fps would make your game choppy and laggy. My only suggestion would be ctrl+alt+delete, start task manager, processes and sort them by cpu, close any applicable processes using alot of cpu.

Today I put the headset on my desk to go let the dog out. When I come back the left ear does not work, and the cord could be pushed into the earphone. I haven't opened it up to fix the wire as i am looking for the receipt, but as I said, has this happened to anyone else who has owned these headphones?

Apologizing for wall of text,

Last month I won a bid on a Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard for $79. It took 2 weeks to ship but no problem. When I opened the box I noticed the latch on the CPU socket was open but didn't think much of it. I took the board out of the box and looked over it and eveything looked great. I decided to move the box out of the way and this piece of metal falls out. I pick it up and it read "Phenom II". Some of the pins were bent so I spent a few hours slowly straitening all the pins. Once they were strait I stuck it onto the board, mounted the heatsink and installed it in my tower. Pushed the power button and it posted. Windows boots up and I open up CPUz to verify what CPU it is and it reads "AMD Phenom II x6 1090T." My jaw dropped.

The ebay listing said that the motherboard was pulled from a working system and had a generic picture of the motherboard. I'm guessing the seller just pulled the heat sink off and sold it as is.

I think this was a lucky CPU. I overclocked it day one and got it up to 4.3GHz stable. I set it to 4.2GHz for daily use because I didn't like having the extra voltage and heat at 4.3. The CPU-NB (memory controller built into the CPU) is at 3.4GHz. I can't get that higher then 3.5Ghz, my motherboard just won't post above that, no matter what voltages/fsb/multiplier I use. I would mess with it some more but I don't want to kill it.

FYI I'm only running 4 out of the 6 cores to keep temps down. Full load temp at max is 48C. I'm using a Coolermaster hyper 212+ with a 120mm x 38mm 3000rpm fan, although I have it on auto and it rarely reaches 2000rpm. It does make some noise but my headphones block most of it.

So, I've been having some trouble with my laptop as of recently... Suddenly, starting up and logging in became really laggy and windows explorer would just stop responding whenever I wanted to do something besides open a picture or Firefox. I would be able to use Firefox for about a minute before it stopped responding for two minutes because Flash Player kept crashing. And once windows explorer stopped responding, it wouldn't come back... well, I got impatient after waiting five to eight minutes so I force shut down around then or earlier. When it stopped responding, if I try to click once or hover over the taskbar, the mouse pointer wouldn't respond either. Windows Task Manager and CTRL + ALT + DEL wouldn't work either.

I turned up with nothing when I ran two full scans using Malware Bytes and nothing from System Restore, as expected. Someone suggested to me to use CCleaner and Auslogics Disk Defrag. Things improved after cleaning the registry and windows log, defragging, and optimizing, but Windows Explorer still crashes more often than I would like. I can now open media files and programs, although I did crash when I tried pressing play on a paused WMP video. Downloads in the MBs upset my computer, and it is still slightly more laggy than before. I've had some registry difficulties when logging into STEAM, and my computer does not take well to my attempts to download games. Often very laggy when I try to open my Libraries, Downloads, or Documents folders; although win explorer crashed on folders that had less to load anyway.

The same person also suggested updating my drivers, but I have not done so yet. Computers are not my thing... can anyone point out the possible source of this mess and provide solutions (in layman's terms, step by step) so that I can go back to using my laptop normally? Have no idea where the install disk or whatever is; returning to factory settings was last on my list anyway :headache:

You sure your hard disk isn't failing? Usually OEM computers will have a diagnostic tool that you can run at boot (typically F9, F10, or F12): HP Diagnostics (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00386164&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en), Dell Diagnostics (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?&docid=DSN_300428&isLegacy=true). That's a really cool case but a little showy for my tastes. Also why is every PC power supply/case light friggin' night club, house music, rave blue? LOL Seems like every PSU I've had suffers this fate.

I do like the 'RPM' gauges on the front though, definitely a nice touch. Where on the mobo do those plug in? My biggest complaint about your build is you went with an AMD processor over an Intel. :( Intel is big time crushing everything AMD puts up in terms of price-to-performance, not to mention that AMD doesn't really have anything on its roster that competes with Intel's upper echelon of chips at all really.

I recently built a monster myself during the Black Friday deals last year. I got an incredible price on a cutting edge machine and like to remind myself of it whenever possible. Here are my specs, but I just have a basic Rosewill Challenger case, nothing fancy:

ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

EVGA GTX 670 FTW Edition
27" LG 1080p widescreen monitor

The GTX 670 is the pride and joy of this box. It runs every single PC game out on the market right now silky smooth, 1920x1080 with everything cranked to max. I positively love it.

When I first got the machine, I attempted to go with Windows 8. Installed the OS, updated my drivers, downloaded my first game (CS:GO actually), went to fire it up, the install process completed annnnnnnnnd... crash to desktop. Alright, maybe something went wrong. Reboot (eight second reboot time on the SSD, SO SEXY) and try again. Crash to desktop. WTF.

Troubleshoot an hour and a half. Fuck this. Loaded Windows 7. :wtg:

7055Thanks for the compliments. I went with AMD over Intel because the floating point on AMD processors is better for gaming than Intel. Also cost wise and speed wise you tend to get just a hint more for the money in AMD and last but not least I have ALWAYS used AMD and NEVER had an issue. The case is flashy to match my personality. Looks like you have a really nice computer as well if you only had a flashy case lol! Also if you were having problems running Windows 8 on your machine the very first place I would look is video memory compatibility and your stick memory compatibility. Are you over clocked because you have the option to run your memory overclocked to be compatible with your mb as I do run mine Oc'd. I run windows 8 with no issue but built my pc around win 8 "Which I hated at first". The gauges on the front of the case are activity and temperature gauges they are great and very accurate. They plug in the mb in the front and have leads that go to the vid card and processor.

So my laptop will still have the speakers playing after I plug in headphones or external speakers. All drivers are up to date, and the issue seems to have appeared suddenly. If I stop my headphones from going all the way in then the speakers turn off and the headphones work alone, rather than in tandem with the computers speakers. Any suggestions?

They should still show up as seporate devices in windoes so just mute your laptop speakers.

Even when my headphones aren't plugged in, headphones show up under my sound settings. When I do plug them in, muting the speakers disables all sound, not just the computer's speakers.

Your going to have to import an export to get one, all because asetek does not like competition here... We finally have a new AOI on the market an not one made by asetek and they force it out.

Can you give me the model number of your TV and the make and model of your video card on your PC?

You do realize that a TV monitor is dramatically slower than an actual monitor right?

Try to lower the refresh rate and see if that does the trick. Also try to start off at a lower resolution. Do you get anything when your booting the pc?

Lastly you should try to use a DVI to HDMI adapter and hook it up that way and it might work instantly, I have had that problem in the past.

i had this issue with my new tv as well. Im not sure what type of tv you have but if it is possible change the refresh rate on your tv to 60mhz, 99% of graphics cards dont even use the 120 anyways. Also, set your resolution lower. Your computer may be trying to force to the TVS resolution. Set a default resolution on your computer.

if all else fails.. are you under the correct HDMI input?

you can do a quick test as well, power down your pc plug in the hdmi then turn your pc on. Best case is that your screen is black but glowing and the input boxes or "not connected" boxes disappear.

1440x900 is the base resolution. That would be 720P. Any HD display should support it. As mikey said, start at 60 hertz, scale up from there. Scale with the graphics card. After, set up secondary display with horner values. Base these settings from the PC first. Sometimes it takes some tinkering, other times it's PNP.

ZERO
09-16-2013, 11:23 PM
No there is an aspect ratio difference between monitors and TVs. A tv should not be told to display 1440x900.

Resolutions for TV is 1280x720 and 1920x1080.

---------- Post added at 12:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:21 AM ----------

Also most tvs have overscan so you may need to build a custom resolution in order not to have stuff get cut off or set your tv zoom mode out a bit.

The adapter you want is not a cable but an actual adapter just like the DVI to VGA there is a DVI to HDMI so that you just have that adapter and can use any HDMI cable which is useful for travel if needed.

Particle board with a faux wood laminate.

Steamer

I use a pad. Use to use a price of printer paper, but they wear easy. Gloss particle board (most glossy surfaces) is to refractive and creates inconsistences in the laser (if you have a true laser mouse) reading. You can try this yourself with a straight line with pencil in paint with and without a pad. "Dark" laser tech helps drastically to work with any type of surface, even glass, but is still minimally inconsistent.

What
09-23-2013, 08:03 PM
It messes up the laser, without a pad my cursor will fly across the screen with barley any movement.

Steamer
09-23-2013, 08:30 PM
My G9 Teflon feet have seen roughly 40% use on a gloss particle board surface l since 09, not even half worn or even many scratches. What mouse do you use Brett?

And to What, mine doesn't jump across the screen on gloss, but it will make some jagged movement. The only true downside imo with a true laser mouse. Precision with a pad and low DPI can go pixel for pixel though. No optical is getting close.

switch between a corsair m65 and mionix naos 3200. i believe you, but some hard surfaces are gonna be more abrasive than others, and if they're not abrasive they're slicker than i like, and because i anchor my wrist it's nice to have that padding.

naos is pretty light, and the 3200 doesn't have adjustable weights. the m65 on the other hand is pretty heavy, has 3 optional weights which are screwed into the bottom of the mouse. my preference is actually no weight and no screws for minimal weight, but with the weights in it's fairly hefty.

Hey guys. So my parents had been complaining about their laptop running slowly as of late and have asked me to try and fix whatever issues it has and I seem to have run into something that I'm not really sure how to fix.

When it's connected to the internet and only when it is in the process manager a number of dllhost.exe processes appear (somewhere around 10 of them). Each of the progressively uses more and more RAM until all of the RAM is pretty much being used. I've run Malware Bytes and MSE on the laptop and they both found files that are malicious and with those programs i deleted all the files that they found and the problem is still persisting.

At this point I'm a bit stuck. I have a couple more things to try out later tonight but I wanted to see if I could get another opinion on it.

Check the installed programs for anything strange. Also is start menu search msconfig and make sure no malicious program is booting when the comp turns on. If there is, change it and reboot. then delete the files again. Without more info, its tough to provide any advice.

here is some more info

The COM+ hosting process controls processes in Internet Information Services (IIS) and is used by many programs. For example, it loads the .NET runtime. There can be multiple instances of the DLLhost.exe process running.
Note: The dllhost.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In other cases, dllhost.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!
Virus with same file name: Worm/Nachi.A.1 - antivir.de

In other words, that process should exisit but it could be controlled by worms viruses ect. check your browser plugins, if you dont recall installing anything thenget rid of that crap!
