Ok i have my pc set up as a dedicated server since I leave it pretty much on all the time. If you like to play login wth MineCraft (http://www.minecraft.net/) and click the link below
http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?server=885c80e9129229d15eb70dcce27f2ad5
I think i have it set to private server now, but to be on safe side we still have a solid block spawn location. So you will need to be admin to remove solid block or ask one to get out.
Same rules apply for everyone dont modify or grief other peoples stuff.
Ps. Just ask and ill give you admin.

I'm not a fan of building but I'll give my hand at it. I'm more of the exploring caves and killing baddies person.

It's worthy enough for a flash based game website but nothing more.

The only interesting part about it is being able to create vast kingdoms and various architectures, all based on one's own imagination. On top of that, in the actual version of the game there's an endlessly generating world.

This game is fun, but I'm looking forward to survival mode getting a little more of an objective rather than just the sandbox that it is now. It's good times building massive stuff, but eventually you run out of ideas, so it would be nice to have a real objective. I think that's the biggest thing holding the game back - right now it's just, how long do you like to play in the sandbox? Since it sounds like the whole business set up is going well, hopefully development will be getting back on track and updates will start pumping out soon (obviously the Halloween update is coming, hoping that fixes some multiplayer bugs, namely damage).
Also, lulz @ graphixxers.

Are you referring to the current Castlevania thats for XBOX 360 ? Those are stunning graphics. As for the old Castlevania, its expected to have bad graphics due to that particular time. Duh !

Minecraft is a game for anyone who ever loved legos or kinexts, it is a vast world that building possibilities are endless, and exploration is endless. the reason i like it so much is because you can build and build and never stop its limited to your imagination. also its funnier than fuck when you burn down someones treehouse that they worked on for like a week :)

So where is the fun in building pointless things that can easily be destroyed in an extremely low graphic environment?
Someone thought legos would be cool in a shitty looking digital format apparently.

its honestly one of those things where you dont notice the graphics once you allow yourself to play it for longer than 10 min... I thought it was the stupidest thing ever developed for PC until I sat down and played it for a bit. Its kinda like going back and playing Super Mario. The gameplay is there so you dont notice the graphics. I do see where scribs and NYS are coming from though, if you are going to make a game in this day and age why not polish the graphics? But the minecraft staff didnt and it works so I wont complain.

Yeah agree with Tentoes, but mind you this game was made by one guy in about a year using Java. So you cant expect intense graphics on a program like that. Survival mode is really fun. And you do begin to look past the graphic real quickly.
The guy must have done something right to got 497844 to have people to buy an alpha game at 9.99 EUR = 13.7981 USD
13.79 x 497844= 6,865,268.76

I don't like the game play either. I understand the concept and after an hour of building different things it grew old. My main point is that this is one of those games you shouldn't have to pay for.

What he did right was release a product to a market of nerds that love the feeling of nostalgia with games. It's the same reason 8bit cartoons are popular. He made it 9.99 EUR so you don't think you're paying $10 but in reality you might as well piss that .01 EUR away. He's smart and has a solid product.
Solid Product + Solid Business Plan + Solid Market = Solid Gold

First of all, you're not paying $10, you're paying more like $14 once you mark it up to USD and pay exchange fees. I don't really understand your whole 9.99 argument. I look at that and immediately convert to 10, because that's how prices work, everywhere, since money became prevalent. Where have you been in the past, I dunno, ever? And why shouldn't you pay for it? Because it's not your type of game, the dev doesn't deserve to be paid for his work? I think his sales say otherwise. Welcome to the capitalist economy - things are worth what people are willing to pay.
Second, this guy made a game that's fun and simple, like a lot of the cash cows out there today, except a lot less stupid, a lot more creative, and with a lot more potential. Do you have any idea how much money Farmville makes? That's worse than Minecraft, but people still pay (large sums of) real money to do stuff in it. You know why? Because they enjoy it. I think it's retarded, but it's not my place to tell them not to do what they enjoy.
Thirdly and finally, this game gives me no nostalgia at all. Playing old games that you used to play gives a person nostalgia, not low-bit graphics on an entirely new game. Yet I still like it! Imagine that.
I get that this isn't your thing, and that's fine, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about as to why other people like it. That said, I 100% agree with the last line of your post - I just don't think you quite understand the solid market part of it.
That was really long.
tl;dr: Minecraft is fun by its own right, not by nostalgia, and worth the (paltry sum of) money to people who enjoy it.

I didn't mean $ as in US currency, just didn't take the time to find the €.
The 9.99 thing is a classic sales technique that's used every day in every market. Simply put, people are more likely to buy a product that costs $9.99 rather than a full $10.00 (or whatever currency). If you don't understand that there are less intelligent people in this world that don't make the connection that 9.99 is essentially 10 then I'm sorry, look around you.
I'm also not telling anyone what to do or what to enjoy. I'm not sure why you brought this up at all. There are thousands of flash/java games of equal or higher stature than this and those games are free.
I say nostalgia because most thought I was emulating an old NES game.
I tested the game and I gave what I consider my review; I'm not trying to out this game as a piece of shit or the worst game in history.
edit: the solid market wasn't in reference to nerds with nostalgia, but simply a compliment to the 497,844 copies sold.

I apologize for the quote-by-quote, but I find it easier to reply to specific points this way.

Well, yes, you have a point in the general market that people are stupid enough not to realize it. I guess my main question was why you were mentioning this specifically about Minecraft - everyone prices things like that, there's no reason he'd be the exception.
scribble[nuke];89734']I'm also not telling anyone what to do or what to enjoy. I'm not sure why you brought this up at all. There are thousands of flash/java games of equal or higher stature than this and those games are free.
I wasn't trying to say you were saying that. I was simply trying to give an example of a game I very much don't like that is popular and brings in moneys. I may have worded it poorly, though.
Thousands? I'm not so sure. Most flash games are horrendous quality, in my experience. In any case, if those games are free, why? Why shouldn't the developer get paid, if it's a quality game that people enjoy? Truth is, most of the time the higher quality games are ad-supported, which is not "free" per se, but 100% subsidized. You are dealing with advertisements, in exchange for playing, and thus the developer gets paid. It's not so terribly easy to integrate advertising into a game like Minecraft, especially without scaring away your potential customers. Remember, he is developing this as his living, and even so Minecraft was free in its infant state. Why wouldn't he start charging when it became so popular and demand increased so much that he needed to bring on board other developers to keep up?
scribble[nuke];89734']I say nostalgia because most thought I was emulating an old NES game.
I still don't get it - someone might mistake it for an older game if they saw someone else playing, certainly, but I don't see how this means the game is gaining popularity for nostalgic reasons.
scribble[nuke];89734']I tested the game and I gave what I consider my review; I'm not trying to out this game as a piece of shit or the worst game in history.
Well, you did call it "awful" in your post on page 2, but I know you're not trying to say it's the worst game in history. There are plenty of other candidates for that one.
tl;dr: I enjoy debating things that don't really matter.

all in all some people will enjoy it, some people wont but you cant really give it a review without playing the actual game.
The Free build mode is just there to be there. A lot of the features and physics arent there. If you like great! If you dont still great.
But i think why it has taken off like it did is cause its different then the average game. Its not a FPS, MMO, RPG or even sandbox game, its just what it is.
