View Full Version : Dealing With Emotions

I almost snapped on my Dad today. I have so much anger built up inside of me today I don't even know what to do with myself right now.
Usually I would ride my bike and I'd be fine, but its winter and completely impossible to even get out of my garage so I'm stuck sitting here thinking about how to calm myself down..
So that bring on my question:
What do you do to deal with your emotions? (anger, depression, anxious, etc.)
I used to just destroy larger cardboard boxes. Realized that did not really help over time. Now I usually just try to relax and let my mind deal with it. Take a slat water bath or something and try to let the stress out.

The cardboard boxes would be nice but I no longer work in a warehouse :(
I love that bath idea right now actually. May do just that.
I'm a weird guy though Maynard; lifting weights may actually make me snap and punch babies.
Loka, provide me with explosives and I will gladly blow up my ex's car. Two houses down ;)

Honestly the best way to deal with rage is just walking. but in your case, go outside and shovel the snow. great thing to do if your snoewd in.

chase.. here is what i do when i am inraged, feeling shitty about stuff going on, or just not that great. I find anything and everything to occupy the time and my mind from what ever it may be. Smoke a cig and go for a walk, it being winter is actually a benefit. Walking in the cold helps cool me down. Also coming to some realizations helps as well. Is it really worth being pissed about and is there anything you can do better regarding the situation. It takes two people to argue, and two people to mend the after-math of that argument.

I've done it multiple times in the last few days and didn't even get a thank you from my dad. If I did it again I would be doing him a favour without even the slightest gesture of appreciation. I just decided the best way to deal with my issues is to be completely independent.. Self-satisfaction is my anti-rage right now :)

I'd kill for a smoke right now but I quit.. I am going for a walk tomorrow morning to see if I can get this car financed.. Hopefully that will help my mood some more.

Seems like your dad is a root of the anger. Maybe a nice long talk with your dad would help.....

Oh no doubt he is. I've been as nice and respectful as I could be to him even when I've wanted to rip his throat out lately until I lost it on him today. He walks away before you can finish your sentence and gets upset whenever you ask him a question.
As I said, he has 0 communication with anybody in my family. Things get done when he wants them done and he has no respect for anybody else. I undestand why my brother and him haven't been friendly or gotten along with each other for more than 30 seconds in the last 4 or 5 years.

play sports dude, one of the best ways to get anger out is cross-checking someone in the face. feel free to come play at the WFCU, one kid went home crying last week, good times.

Smoking a bowl makes me feel all better.
For anger I just curse like a sailor until I feel better, depends how angry I am.

I just used to beat the shit out of people. Competitively, of course.
But three surgeries and a firm NO by family and doctors, now I just kind of... lounge about. Just dont get angry. Will power. All that bullshit. Yeah.

actually, res has a good point. cuss your face off. pretty soon you'll just get tired of it and let it go. after all, you can only scream "FUCK YOU" to yourself so many times before the anger gets old

Or, you curse so much that you end up incorporating it in all of your conversations.
I still have really bad rage problems so you probably shouldn't ask me for help.

Walking is the best for me...I've had a lot of bad things happen recently, which is why I'm acting the way I am, and I took a walk the other day (2hrs) and I felt much better, still shitty, but not as shitty.

It works for me.

dont get angry. mind over matter.
or you could beat up the smallest kid you find at the nearest park and poop on his or her face.
I would recommend against drugs to get over things like this. While yes you can relieve stress that way it prevents you from learning how to deal with it without the drugs. As a result over time you become dependent on them to function normally as that is the only way that you know how to deal with stress. Note that this is independent of if said drug is addictive, you will develop a psychological need for it to relive your stress. Remember drugs for things like this only help get rid of symptoms but only you can actually get rid of the root stress.

its winter right?
maybe a walk is gd for some like me , but sometimes, even thats not enough.
take an axe, a few logs of wood, out ur anger on them and smash em to pieces, collect them in a bonfire in ur backyard (assuming u have one) and then put on some gd clothe and just go outside and sit next to the bonfire ....basically like camping, for an hour or so,,,, or just look at a cheminee.
it is scientifically proven that watching flames grow and move around is relaxing to the soul... give it a try if u dnt feel like doing the cliche stuff.
PS: do not become a pyromaniac, it will defeat the above purpose lol

I usually never get angry at anything or anyone, but if I do I trancfer all my anger into humor. It turns out kind of mean but better than being pissed.

All of the things said have worked in the past but don't seem to anymore. It seems like time is the only anger killer for me now.. The fire thing would be nice but not possible right now :(
Thanks for all the input guys

what's wrong w/ tylenol?
it's legit

Drinking enough to get drunk off the lower alcohol content in nyquil these days would result in a serious overdose of acetometaphine. ODing on it isn't pleasant.
Trust me. One night in High School I was sitting at home bored and decided the 3 bottles of nyquil in the cabinet would be just about enough to get me a nice buzz going. I knew the taste would be terrible but I didn't plan on tasting it.. repeteadly over the next 4 days.

What i do is hit something metallic that makes a loud noise and hurts my hand. I then forget about the anger and focus on the pain! Weird yes but it works, because i then realize my anger wasen't worth hurting myself.

You sound quite young. But, to be honest, exercise is the best thing you can do when you're angry. Why? Endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters released by the brain to relieve stress and induce happiness.

thats why i love HOT SAUCE!
i drink various types of hotsauce including tabasco for an adrenalin rush.
CHASE chug some tabasco, it will release twice the amount of endorphins then working out (;

What I do is fairly situational. But for anger, I usually just convince myself that what happened is in the past and I can't help it, then I go listen to some Beatles and/or play video games. Any game will do, as long as it's enjoyable and preferably laid-back in nature. Depression's a toughie, but I just go to one of a few close friends who know me really well and just talk, about anything. Eventually things start to make sense and then it just takes one little good thing to happen to get back on my feet. Anxiety is one I personally never really have a problem with. It's part of my life philosophy, that I do what I can do using what I've been given and what I've added, and nothing more. Whatever happens, happens, and while it wasn't necessarily predetermined, it's what was supposed to happen. Whenever I have days where I'm just feeling off, no emotion I can attach to the feeling just like something's not right, I sit down, take some alone time, listening to whatever music catches my fancy and play some CS, CoD, something like that to get my mind back in the right place.
I can't belive it but I'm actually going to agree with Sith. :o
Exercise (or sex) + Metal + Beer. Deal with shit like a man, man.
