so i got up for my first class today, showed up at 9:30 (the scheduled time). i did the same on tuesday (it's a tue/thu class), but nobody was there. figured i missed an email and that class was cancelled, so i left. turns out he changed the class to 10am and i'm the only one who didn't get the email. no biggie, until...the thursday before all this, i overslept for the first time in my college career (now in my 4th semester). just so happened the prof decided to give a surprise exam on that thursday, worth 15% of the final grade. the makeup day was tuesday, which i missed due to not getting the email, i just found out about the surprise exam this morning when i also found out about the class time change and he won't let me make it up. i now have to decide between struggling to get a c or dropping this class AND the lab, both of which i need to declare my engineering major at the end of this year which of course ends after this semester. i am fucked. FUCKED beyond FUCKING. i oversleep one time in my goddamn college career and it's the one day out of all of them that i couldn't afford to miss due to a freak set of circumstances. i am absolutely, positively, 100% certified prison ass raped FUCKED.

and oh btw, the last day to drop a class without consequence was YESTERDAY.

talked with my advisor, he says there's nothing he can do because university policy doesn't dictate that professors have to let their students know when quizzes/tests/exams are, because we are expected to be at every class anyway, of course barring sickness or other excused absences. also, university policy states that ANY work done in class is not to be made up by anyone with an unexcused absence on the day of that work, that includes exams. since sleeping in is unexcused, the university has no reason to let me make up the exam, so it's all on the prof, so i'm gonna send him emails, call his home phone, send him faxes, snail mail, wtf ever i can do to annoy the shit outta this asshole til he lets me make the damn thing up because it's all up to him whether or not he lets me.

my advisor did say this: it's bs for sure, and he knows i never skip classes, i just got the worst possible luck on when i did miss a class, but there's nothing he or anyone else can do, it's all on the prof.

I would suggest reading the syllabus (if they make you sign it) and see if there's anything that can help your case. Otherwise lie about why you were gone.

Also, it's the professor's responsibility to notify students of any class changes. He clearly did not if you were never given an e-mail stating that the scheduled time changed. That being said, its absurd to say you were unexcused when you didn't know when class was going to take place.
